A Thailand-based cryptocurrency investor has handed a record £9m to Nigel Farage’s Reform.

Christopher Harborne, who previously gave £1m to Boris Johnson and millions of pounds to the Brexit Party, has given the cash to Reform as it tops the polls and seeks to woo senior Conservatives.

It is the biggest single donation from a living person to any British political party.

Because actions speak louder than words

Farage and his travelling agitators is doing more harm to this country than Begum ever did

Menopauselbitch Mon 08-Dec-25 12:16:52

He’s hardly been accused of terrorism just hurry words.

Menopauselbitch Mon 08-Dec-25 12:15:59

What people don’t realise is that 9 million to a billionaire is like £90 to normal people. If he feels so strongly that Reform is our only option why shouldn’t he try and help. All the other parties get big donations and not always from scrupulous sources, so why not. He might have family here.

On the other hand Barba, Farage himself said that, at aged 15, Shemima(sic) Begum was old enough to know what she was doing when she was groomed as an ISIS bride. So why not judge Farage by the standard he himself agrees with?

Good for them, I hope it helps Mr Farage fight the good fight against all the wrong doings, blatant Labour lies and stopping the illegal invasion of this country !

Would you like to expand on the wrongdoings and how Farage will put them right?

The question is why?

He has lived in Thailand for 20 years and is Thai-British, aka Chakrit Sakunkrit, according to Sky News.

Well he previously donated £1 million to the Tory party and his company was awarded an £80 million contract with the MOD. He must think Reform are going to be in government soon, I hope he is wrong.

He changed his name to a Thai name, he was originally British. I expect he wants deregulation of crypto as his payment if Farage gets to power. It can't be an overweening love of the UK, as he chose to leave. This should be the final nail in corrupt Farage's political coffin if there was any sanity left in the world.

Thanks.

I did wonder if he was half-Thai but apparently not.

Farage did more to cause the 'illegal invasion' than anybody else by driving support for Brexit and ending the crucial Dublin returns agreement.

But it is important to distinguish between legal migration, illegal migration and refugees (something Farage doesn't want clarified as it wouldn't suit his purpose). It's also nonsense to call migration in any form 'an invasion'.

Overseas based donations like this should NOT be allowed. Who knows who is actually behind it? USA? Russia?
Disgraceful.

Of course if the UK had a more robust democracy, Harborne and Farage couldn’t bamboozle deregulation of cryptocurrencies without full transparency and accountability. Fat chance?

Lesley60 Sun 07-Dec-25 18:10:19

I think this donation is disgusting no matter what political party it is, surely he would have more pleasure giving it to a children's charity or homeless charity

Never has politics in the UK been scarier. Reform has normalised racism, has made debasing our flag commonplace and has brought Trump style immorality and money obsession to the fore. I now see the touring mobs wearing their national flag as capes have taken to carrying crosses! We really don’t need extreme politics and US style evangelical ‘Christianity’ here.

And what a load of rubbish that is.
Non-achievers looking for their 15-minutes of fame!
And as though anyone should be judged on silly things they said 50-years ago as young impressionable teenagers.

I've known of many daft school bullies who've gone on to be pillars of society.
I've also known of the goody-two-shoes who have been on the wrong side of the law in adulthood.
How you are at 13-16 is no indication of the grown person you later become.
Thank goodness.

I believe a Reform tartan may be on the way… Can’t wait - especially if it’s red, white and blue!

MrsMatt Sun 07-Dec-25 16:50:26

More money than sense, unfortunately.

Geordiegirl1 Sun 07-Dec-25 16:38:00

The Unions are the origin of the Labour Party. I see no sign of them ( the Unions) having any influence anymore, unfortunately.

ronib Sun 07-Dec-25 16:37:49

Mr Harborne may be a genius at making money but he’s yet to pick a winner in politics. If he wants to fritter away £9 million, there are more worthy causes but his money, his choice.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 07-Dec-25 16:37:36

Reform’s Scottish membership has soared from around 2,000 to 13,000 since July 2024.

Applegran Sun 07-Dec-25 16:31:10

There is a suggestion by the Electoral Reform Society - who are really working on the side of democracy - there should be a cap on how much anyone can donate to a political party.
And of course it should not be possible for UK parties to receive donations from people who do not live here and have no connection with us - except perhaps the hope of some kind of personal gain.

Etoile2701 Sun 07-Dec-25 15:37:13

What a waste of money when it could have gone to so many good causes. Shame on him! He doesn't even live in the UK.

DamaskRose Sun 07-Dec-25 15:23:17

i do not think anyone should be able to donate to a British political party unless they are domiciled in the UK and paying their taxes here.

Exactly this.

Chocolatelovinggran Sun 07-Dec-25 15:19:47

Yep, LizzieDrip, I noticed that.
I think this might be more a case of this gentleman putting his mouth where his money is.
