We are visiting the US for a wedding in May so I thought I would look at the changes proposed

Tourists no change but they will collect biometrics as we do in the UK, ESTAs are still current, applications proceed as normal

Migrant workers face big changes this is where the 5 yr social media screening comes in, they are going to look at past activity closely.
The UK has strict rules for migrant workers it’s very difficult to come to the UK from most countries for work unless it’s a sponsored application. Tourist visas are also strictly controlled too.

Trump has made these changes because companies were bringing in large numbers of migrant workers when local workers were available. Recently a Korean company brought in hundreds migrant workers onto a construction site that had no special skills, they were sent home. In future if a migrant worker has special skills the company will have to pay a large bond to do that, protecting local workers jobs.

Yes we will have to work round it if the worst comes to the worstIOMGran let's hope common sense prevails.

Could they not travel to you instead? Or meet in Canada or Mexico?

Many of us have family in America so still want to visit. Hopefully these ludicrous restrictions will not come about.

Re the Reiner's murders, I have started it's own thread. It is I feel a pivotal point in the unravelling of Trump. Plus he has now started referring to himself in the 3rd person, never a good sign.

He is making it political when in reality it was Reiner's son who has been arrested. There was apparently a history of mental health issues, drug abuse and estrangement.

I hope he is made to walk alone through eternity, with no one to worship him. His worst nightmare I would imagine. Hell is even too good for him.

I just don’t get it, when somebody has been murdered in their own home, whoever they are, expressing sympathy is the least anybody should do. If you can’t even bring yourself to do that, say nothing. Speaking ill of the dead is something only vindictive people do.

Obama’s message about Reiner’s death was properly gracious, as you would expect. The ‘normal’ world keep expecting trump to reach the absolute pits and then he would really have to go. But, hasn’t he reached the absolute pits several times - being cruel to bereaved parents, imitating a disabled journalist, sexually assaulting women, January 6 … but he’s still there. Why? His mainly handpicked Supreme Court are behind him and I reckon Putin has something on him.

He allegedly put an absolutely horrible message on his social media site about Rob Reiner. I've read what was there and couldn't believe how vindictive and nasty it was.

I think the cost of tickets will also be a huge disincentive. I bought tickets for the Olympics in Paris and for a fraction of the price sat in good seats and enjoyed a whole day of world class sport.

I am home. I am seeing some rumors here and there about European tourists for the World Cup, but nothing from a reliable source.

People comment he might not be long in post due to health issues but remember Robert Mugabe? He died aged 95. Trump is no doubt receiving the very best health care money can buy. He us probably receiving stem cell implants, immunotherapy and blood transfusions. I imagine Putin has given him advice on this very topic!

Or unless the authorities are suspicious because you don’t have an online profile, and think you have an alias, and are hiding something. Who knows how their minds work.

I'm not aware of any country that requires visitors to give a five year social media history as well as information about family members. I certainly would not give another country access to the information that the US might be requesting and I think many others would feel the same.

That might be a problem for me because I don’t have an online profile.

It seems the US is tightening its entry requirement, nothing unusual many countries do, its difficult for many to get a UK visa, India has quite detailed questions, no problem for us but some others it would not be straightforward.

I have a current ESTA for the US and plan to attend a wedding in the US but I must check if it is still valid, maybe I will just renew in advance and be sure.

They already have my fingerprints, no doubt it’s registered with my ESTA, I expect they can follow my phone too, doesn’t bother me

If that happened, all those in the UK who object to an ID system being introduced in the UK would not visit USA again, so it would have an adverse financial impact on the USA. The issue with any draconian system like that is that it has unintended consequences.
