Trump’s visa plans

Just when you think Trump couldn’t get any crazier, he has launched his new visa plans for most countries including the UK.

Although, it would obviously be good to screen for potential terrorists, I think the measures will put off a good number from visiting the US. The new visa will require 5 years of social media history, addresses and emails for five years and possibly the same for family members.
Visits to National Parks now cost £100 dollars tax including entrance fees. To cap it all, he is to abolish free entry on Martin Luther King Day although it will be free to enter on his birthday!

My son emigrated out there 15 years ago, when he married an American girl.

He loves the lifestyle he can afford (compared to what he would be able to afford over here) but he keeps out of the politics and arguments. 👍

My wife’s Brother and Sister live in US, he Republican, she Democrat, they don’t speak even though they live 10mls apart, our rule is dont discus politics so we get on fine with both.

I would hate a system where you have to support one or the other

As a ‘taster’, Politico published ‘Seven takeaways’ from the hearing transcript.

I am not sure if this deserves its own thread as a topic or not. The Jack Smith testimony in regards to Trump being prosecuted for attempting to overturn the 2020 election has been released.

This is the first thing I ran across. It is the full 8 hour testimony video. I'm not watching it. I will be back once I start finding other things.

Well here it is Allira and the facebook site has hundreds like this and the organisation is for all the UK.

Its pretty grim as you can imagine, indulging clear AI stuff.

The fact that sometimes people use England and UK as exchangeable is from Empire Days, and hardly an excuse for use by an English citizen except for her own ignorance or deliberate choice.

Thanks, Wyllow

I am English, can I pop over the border to the shops please? Or do I need my passport? Or a visa!

Oh, goodness, Empire Days. Is that why places in Australia, Canada, America etc have Scottish, Welsh, Irish place names!

Nova Scotia, New South Wales, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, New Caledonia (although it was a French colony!), and hundreds of others.

whatever it's linked to on FB

and the following one who doesn't even recognise that Scotland , Wales and Ireland exist 🙄

I'm not following the link, whatever it's to on FB I will be inundated with the same type of posts for evermore?

However, I would just point out that many people in other countries seem to think England is synonymous with the whole of the UK.
"Do you live in England" is a common question in many places overseas and if you say "No, Wales" (but only just!) they look puzzled and say "But that's in England".

Wyllow3 Wed 31-Dec-25 15:46:36

Both Germany and France offer interpreting help in these situations.

Wyllow3 Wed 31-Dec-25 15:44:31

It is expected.

We now have much stricter rules for visas immigrants who make up please remember for the Nth time constitute 94% of incomers.

But not immediately for older people joining family perfectly legally or for genuine asylum seekers/refugees who don't come with much English.

Have a heart, fgs. Quit the mean, narrow way of thinking

as

many of the ones you would criticise bring the next generation up as dedicated doctors, nurses, teachers that we could not do without

I don't recall him going to jail for the rape?
How much has he paid of the damages awarded in the Civil Court?
As he is so 'innocent' why is he concerned about the release of the Epstein Files?

sundowngirl Wed 31-Dec-25 15:12:21

Wyllow3 - I don't believe that it is racism to expect people that want to come to live and work here should learn English. The NHS alone spend tens of millions annually on interpreters

Wyllow3 Wed 31-Dec-25 15:00:03

We should heed her warnings. it's coming here in this glossy production (and actress?) apparently lovely young women spouting racism - which followed the one you just posted

Just for those who believe that all Americans are the same.

Many you know may say that Freya5, but it’s not borne out by the number of tourists, the UK is predicted to have a 6.3% rise in tourism in 2025. Meanwhile, tourism is in a serious decline in the USA. Compared with 2024 a similar drop to the rise in the UK is predicted, and post pandemic it is worse. There is a lot of concern there about this issue.

Allsorts

I hope no one visits.

I certainly won't be visiting and wouldn't go there if you paid me.

Don't think you'll be missed. Many say the same about coming to London due to UK policies of inviting terrorists to live among us.

Please remember that out of over 330 million people in the US, only 77 million voted for him.

He does not represent all of us. We do not support him. Americans are lovely, welcoming people. So please don't write us all off as something we are not.

If I were on here making generalizations about British citizens, you would all be telling me that it isn't fair to lump you all together. confused

Absolutely, my children love visiting their dad in America. Made very welcome always. Trump isn't all American people.

Cossy

We already made the decision not to visit the USA whilst Trump is in office - sad as have both family and friends there

Instead they can go to Egypt, Thailand, China, Dubai even Turkey all of whom are military dictatorships with very questionable human rights records.

Yes, seems it's more the picking and choosing rather than looking at the real picture. I would choose America over any of those other choices, and my son will be returning to see his dad again this year. He is always made so welcome by those he meets. Not all America is Trump.

You could very well be right Galaxy.

I think the stuff aimed at Erica kirk is more than likely just the typical misogyny you often see aimed at women after theor husbands death.

imaround Tue 30-Dec-25 21:14:15

I doubt that anything is happening between them. But what they say and do is causing questions.

I feel badly for Usha Vance. She married and had children with a never Trumper, only for him to embrace Trump and MAGA. Which has lead to racism against her, questions about inappropriate behavior with a recent widow and her husband throwing her religion under the bus in public. And she quit her career as an attorney to do so.

Casdon Tue 30-Dec-25 21:06:58

The Erica Kirk/Vance story is not pleasant reading, I’ve seen it suggested in the UK too. We’ve also seen him publicly saying he wants his wife to ‘see the light’ and become a Catholic. I would tell him where to get off I were her.

imaround Tue 30-Dec-25 20:59:45

I should say that Vance has an Erika Kirk problem currently. They really have been acting inappropriatly on stage in a lot of peoples opinions, and even MAGA is questioning it.

An interesting trend I keep seeing in opinion pieces is that Trump is loosing the Gen Z MAGA men and Erika Kirk is bringing in the Gen Z women. However, Meghan Kelly recently got backlash after saying something about women not being respected in the work place. She obviously misses the fact that she promoted this reality, so I can't feel sorry for her.

This is all my opinion and gossip, of course, but an interesting theory to keep an eye on and see how things end up.

imaround Tue 30-Dec-25 20:54:30

I can't say for sure what a Vance Presidency would look like, but I do know that he is rather unpopular in the polls.

Vance is beholden to Theil and, IMO, more of a yes man vs the loose cannon Trump is. Trump is unpredictable to even those closest to him, which leads to the dysfunction currently. If Vance is in charge, he will toe the line and be easier to control. But Vance doesn't have the blind loyalty of MAGA, which will be a problem. Especially as more of MAGA wake up.

Basically, it's a crapshoot.
