worrying updates on global security

I think we should all have some stockpiles of food and water anyway if possible. Question now is will we be fighting an enemy from the East or the West? Or both?

If there was actually a world war it would mean the losing side would inevitably deploy nuclear weapons. I would not want to survive even if it were possible.
As far as we know we are alone in the universe on a planet so beautiful that we are constantly amazed by it. And yet a few power-hungry men just want to blow it up.

I heard those items on the news and was alarmed by the tone with which they were delivered. My phlegmatic DH said, probably this was about getting extra funding for defence/the armed forces and also he thought it was unlikely there would actually be an invasion but instead more sabotage of cables, the internet and so on.
If they were planning to invade, I don't see where they would mass forces as they did with Ukraine unless they came by way of the sea and our navy is very alert to our sea borders from reports that I see and presumably our neighbouring allies would come to our defense anyway.
I think what worries me is that even low level increased sabotage may interfere with our way of life and those who are used to stacked supermarket shelves will be upset/not know what to do. Similarly if our water or energy supplies were tampered with.
I fear civilised life breaking down and disorder on the streets. All those people saying they will never obey an order to lockdown again will feel the same about other privations being imposed.
As IOM says above, I think we should stockpile some food and keep some cash in the house, although if the thugs come to the door, that won't be much use.

We live quite near several airbases and training aircraft every so often are not unusual but just lately they have been constant every day probably for the last 8cweeks or so

OMG - stockpiling food etc ? Sounds like the 1960s when they told us we might need fall out shelters and sandbags for the nuclear bombs about to drop. Penalty of living in London then. Tasmania and New Zealand are suddenly looking very attractive . Or maybe Uluṟu?

How long do you think your stock pile will last? One of the mad men who want to own all of this beautiful earth will destroy it, it will destroy them too but more slowly so I hope the end is quick. Its inevitable. We cannot plan for it, wherever you run to, it is in the hands of fools.

I sometimes find it scary, but I remember all the other things in my lifetime that were going to kill us all, and decide not to worry too much. We are still here, muddling through.

I do have emergency supplies, but have done that all my married life and never needed them. One day there might be a flood or an extended power cut and I’ll be glad of them. Boiling lentils in purified water on a camping stove in the garden whilst listening to a wind-up radio by the light of a battery powered lantern might be fun. I even have a pack of playing cards in case of boredom.

Recently we went for over a week with no electricity because of bad storms knocking down power lines. Not nice , especially at night. That would be the very least of it.
