US have attacked Venezuela with missiles. This is unforgivable

ronib Sat 03-Jan-26 11:19:26

It may well be linked to Venezuelan oil reserves plus the ruling drugs cartels. I have little sympathy for anyone making huge profits from selling drugs. It has to be an improvement for Venezuela and if it’s such an oil rich country, why is it killing off the young worldwide with its evil drug trade?

Maremia Sat 03-Jan-26 11:17:28

Thought that most of the drugs came from Columbia?
Will they be next on the hit list?
Ah, but do they have oil?

foxie48 Sat 03-Jan-26 11:14:16

Ronib do you think Trump should send American law enforcers into every country that does not have a democratically elected leader? If so, at what point would this become a concern for you?

If Trump wants to stop illegal drugs coming into the US he has picked the wrong country. Trump may say it's about drugs but this is about regime change, plain and simple, and linked to Venezuela's huge oil reserves.

ronib Sat 03-Jan-26 10:57:52

I am fascinated by the idea that Venezuela has drug cartels which had put in place the newly deposed president. Strange form of democracy?
Also Trump has taken on the drug barons as a way of keeping illegal drugs out of his country. What is wrong with that?

For anyone who has relatives with Dementia, Trump has been increasingly exhibiting the symptoms of that ever degenerating disease. He will not get better.

The Venezuelan president accuses Trump of wanting to seize their resources, oil and minerals. This is what the attacks are about he says.

Probably very true.

Iran is in possession of massive oil reserves, Venezuela is sitting on even more. Greenland is a fund of precious mineral reserves.

The US is a hothouse of greedy commercialism and rabid political idiots - Trump being at the top of the pyramid.

CabbageWars13 Sat 03-Jan-26 10:32:00

It seems the increasing rumours and claims that Donald Trump is slipping further into uncontrollable behaviour, due to dementia, would seem to have more than a grain of truth.

Remember the Peter Sellers film "Dr Strangelove" or the Michael Caine film "Billion Dollar Brain"? Both films revolved around mentally unbalanced maniacs using military might to take over the world.

Is there nobody in Washington who dares to restrain Trump?

So much for this POTUS stopping all wars and his desperation in wanting a Nobel Peace Prize 🤬

Exactly. For all his many faults I had Trump down as someone who would strive for peace. Looks like I was wrong. I can't help wondering if he is showing early signs of dementia. Some of his actions and statements are extreme to say the least.

AGAA4 Sat 03-Jan-26 10:24:46

Trump is after the oil and minerals in Venezuela. He rarely does anything that doesn't benefit himself.

What a coincidence. It was on 3rd January 1990 that Noriega surrendered to the USA after they had invaded Panama.
Now trump will install the woman who lost the election.
She also put trumps name forward for the peace prize.

And how convenient for a Trump friendly leader to be installed in Venezuela … with all its vast oil reserves🤔

Farzanah Sat 03-Jan-26 10:19:18

I have two observations.
1. Venezuela has the most oil reserves in the world.
2. The Epstein files.

ayse Sat 03-Jan-26 10:16:33

The POTUS has overstepped and is interfering in the governance of a sovereign country. There can be no justification for these activities. Apparently Trump has also threatened Iran according to the BBC.

I wonder how we would feel if Trump was to behave in this way to support Farage and his ilk! There have also been threats against Greenland/Denmark and Canada not to mention the Ukraine! He is a dangerous and out of control president!

eazybee Sat 03-Jan-26 10:14:02

A press conference at 11am when all will be explained. (?)

Problematical unless we know a lot of background. Bbc have just been saying Maduro more or less stole the election which put him in power. I have no time for orange Don and military force from the USA is not the way to put things right, but there is more behind this.

By all accounts Maduro is (was) not a great leader.

However, it’s really not up to Trump to use violence to implement regime change in a sovereign country.

Where does that sort of behaviour stop!

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 03-Jan-26 10:02:11

Apparently trump should have got permission from Congress. How many times has this dreadful, unhinged man gone too far? Yet he still gets away with it all.

nanna8 Sat 03-Jan-26 10:01:12

The similarities with Putin are increasing every day. No wonder they ‘get’ each other.

Blimey - he’s apparently now captured the president and his wife, and flown them out of the country.

Good grief.

Good gosh.

Grandmabatty Sat 03-Jan-26 09:54:41

My son, who has been in Venezuela, thinks that USA have had help from the army who basically run the country.

Mr Trump is evidently not to be underestimated by the Maduros of this world.

I don’t think Maduro underestimated Trump - neither does the rest of the world.

We all understand that he is out of control, the question is - what to do about it. .

He ought to return his FIFA consolation, peace prize. Can he get any worse?

Grandmabatty Sat 03-Jan-26 09:21:45

AGAA4 it's also why he's determined to have Greenland. It's all about stealing oil etc from others. And not for USA but for him. I wonder if this is a step too far, even for his acolytes
