US have attacked Venezuela with missiles. This is unforgivable

BlueBelle Mon 05-Jan-26 10:53:25

Listening to the radio this morning, anyone who has any connections with Venezuela and Cuba are ringing in praising Trump to the hilt, as a saviour
However my opinion hasn’t changed, he’s a danger to the world, he’s off his rocker, he wants Greenland now, is there no depths to this man depravity?

Balance of power WhiteWave. Confirms what some of us feel, that Trump is a Russian ally.

Maremia Mon 05-Jan-26 10:48:34

So, possibly Facebook was correct, that the Russians knew about it.

Maremia Mon 05-Jan-26 10:47:21

Thanks for the info petra.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 05-Jan-26 10:46:41

So, listening to TRIPUSA.

Scaramucci is of the opinion, that this attack has been cooperated with Russia, that the Venezuelan military knew of the proposed attack, and also that the VP Rodriguez knew of the proposed attack!

Trump is also sending a message to China - stay out of my sphere of influence.

I will try to make further sense of that , as it is clear as mud to me atm.

Shocking, ronib. We are talking about Trump. How better off are the citizens of Venezuela? This oil that Trump has 'saved', who will benefit?
Drugs? You think this is about drugs? That's the 'decoy' issue.
Didn't Trump just pardon a serious drug lord?
So, I will stick with 'shocking'.

AGAA4 Mon 05-Jan-26 10:24:11

This has just been another ploy by Trump to get what he wants which is the oil and minerals.
He cares nothing for the Venezuelan people and has left them to the militia and gangs so they are no better off than before.

AGAA4 Mon 05-Jan-26 10:20:39

Yes the drugs element of this is farcical. Venezuela does not produce drugs and those entering the US come from elsewhere and through the Pacific route as petra says.

petra Mon 05-Jan-26 10:16:22

ronib

Let’s guess what the orders might be? Stop drug smuggling to the USA and allow international oil companies to drill for oil?
Shocking? Or sensible? Maremia

Maybe someone should tell Donald that the vast majority of drugs are smuggled into the US through the pacific route and not the carribian.
I would imagine the drug cartels were having a field day while he was attacking those ships coming out of Venezuela.

Who 'holds' that debt?

Japan is the top foreign holder of US dept.

I thought Trump had left Venezuela in the hands of the previously elected Vice President. Assuming therefore that the government itself has not changed.

Exactly Ronib the armed militia and criminal groups together with the corrupt government and the generals are what continue to prop up the old "Chavaz" regime which Meduro continued to run. On the death of Chavaz, nothing changed, with the removal of Meduro, nothing will change either. None of this will benefit the "people" of Venezuela

Only is she follows orders ronib, or it will be 'worse for her'.

But, they are still borrowing.

^More taxes means public services and benefits can be paid, where else can it come from.?^

Oooooooh. Don’t tempt me , David grin

Well it’s not going to cone from borrowing because the US already borrows 125% of GDP, the dollar is already under pressure.

AGAA4 Mon 05-Jan-26 09:09:50

Trump has now left Venezuela to the armed militia and criminal groups to fight over power.
The US leave a trail of misery whenever they interfere in other countries.
I fear for Greenland now as what's to stop Trump going in and taking over.

On the other hand, this morning The Guardian has a lucid account of the operation under the title 'military'.

The FT is pointing out this morning (as I did yesterday) that the regime is essentially unchanged. I think it will be free to carry on ‘as usual’ so long as Trump gets what he wants from Venzuela.

I really can’t see him being in the least bit interested in improving life for Venezuela’s oppressed peoples.

Wyllow3 Mon 05-Jan-26 08:38:52

Traditional NATO loyalties and proximity to NATO countries that we are very close to (and could be "next" on Putin's list) brought us into issues in The Ukraine.

Maremia Mon 05-Jan-26 08:37:16

And how well has the 'tariff' issue worked for the everyday citizen?

Maremia Mon 05-Jan-26 08:35:47

Perhaps Ukraine is more 'ours' because of proximity?

Maremia Mon 05-Jan-26 08:34:31

And if I had three hands, what else is going on, while we are focussed on this?
Remember Johnson's 'dead cat' ploys?
