Woman shot and killed by ICE officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Yesterday there was a very tragic shooting of a woman leaving the scene of an Immigration raid/incident . The video clips are very disturbing as she is shot and killed by an officer after she was given conflicting information by two officers . One who told her to leave and another who told her to get out of the car.
She was killed by a third officer who was to the side of the car . I can only advise you not to watch the clip if you feel it might be disturbing . I was able to read a good account of it in the NYT and it definitely looks and reads like she was murdered.
She was a white, US citizen not a target of the raid.

I truly feel like the USA is imploding from the inside out and that Trump is creating fires of danger everywhere.

Another vote for DAR’s post.

I just happened to run across this article from 2014 on ICE use of force practices.

www.thenation.com/article/archive/us-border-agents-intentionally-stepped-front-moving-vehicles-justify-shooting-them/

It may have a paywall. So I am going to c&p it so you can all see.

And just for Trump's education, the UK has postal voting and there has been no evidence of widespread fraud surrounding it. Obviously there will have been some misuse of postal voting but it has never been significant and certainly not influential on the outcome.

Reform want to removed postal voting for many people. From the 2024 election contract:

Commence Reform of the Postal Voting System

Postal voting has allowed electoral fraud. We will stop postal voting except for the elderly, disabled or those who can’t leave their homes.

Perfect post DAR.

There is none so blind as those who will not see.

I have a busy weekend. Hopefully Minneapolis will not escalate this weekend and tensions calm.

Yes DAR, good post.

Maremia Sat 10-Jan-26 13:36:37

Must look back to see what DAR said.

Oreo Sat 10-Jan-26 13:33:46

Actually the real term for the many thousands arriving here in small boats is more correctly economic migrants as that’s what so many are, not asylum seekers.

Are the Republican politicians as scared of Vance, as they are of Trump?
Vance may 'hold' tbe MAGA, and there are a lot of them, but enough for a majority?

Syracute Sat 10-Jan-26 13:04:48

Also calling them Bitches during this interaction. No professional police officer does this.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 10-Jan-26 12:54:49

And never to fire on a moving vehicle + for obvious reasons.

Syracute Sat 10-Jan-26 12:45:30

Law in regards to the officer’s actions:
Precedent was set in the case of Kirby v. Duva 2008 which states that deadly force cannot be used to prevent the escape of an unarmed, non-dangerous fleeing suspect. The ruling also supports the idea that an officer's use of deadly force may be deemed excessive if the officer UNREASONABLY PLACES THEMSELVES in harm's way in the first place, rather than utilizing safer alternatives.

Purplepixie, Trump won't last forever. I know Vance is just as bad, but he does not have Trump's 'charisma'. He will not be able to mesmerise the MAGA, in the way that Trump does.
It will end.

Vance is much worse. He is basically an open white supremacist, and unlike Trump, he is more relatable to the MAGA base in terms of background. Born again Christian, women’s rights hater, self-proclaimed “hillbilly”. People who under-estimate his ability to replace Trump with that base are a bit naive. He’s being groomed to replace Trump and is extremely popular because he himself is extreme.

Yes, Vance is def worse, and the Democrats need to field a really good candidate for the next election in order to win.

Is there a reason apart from not wanting illegal immigrants?
We don’t want them here either.

You personally don’t speak for everyone, Oreo. Many people with quieter voices think very differently, and they are often the majority. That’s why it’s misleading to describe people as “illegal immigrants” when, in most cases, they are not.

The vast majority of people arriving here are asylum seekers or people migrating legally, the latter usually entering the country by plane. You are not “illegal” simply because you have arrived and made a claim.

Under the law, no one is here illegally until their asylum claim has been fully processed and refused. Even then, they are not “illegal immigrants”; they are refused asylum seekers. At that point, they are expected to leave the country within 21 days, either voluntarily or through enforced removal. During that period, support is usually withdrawn, with only a few limited exceptions.

This system has worked in the past and is working again now. The political right - whatever name they currently operate under - often chooses to ignore how the system actually functions, and their supporters are encouraged to believe false claims about the outcomes.

What we are seeing more broadly is the use of something very similar to Newspeak, as described in Orwell’s 1984 : a deliberately simplified and distorted use of language designed to shape and limit how people think. The repeated misuse of terms like “illegal immigrant” is a clear example of this.

Oh you wish the thousands of small boats carrying illegal migrants or asylum seekers or whatever you want to call them to continue arriving here then? That’s strange because the vast majority in the country don’t want it to continue and neither does our government either.

ICE remind me of certain militias in so called rogue countries. Was just reading about the Basij in Iran, who serve a similar purpose. Funnily enough they are labelled a terrorist organisation in the US.
Certainly the US is keeping good company in letting loose these attack dogs on ordinary innocent citizens. I imagine the Iranian regime is applauding its efforts.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 10-Jan-26 12:10:07

Don’t confuse the police with ICE which is a paramilitary force operating frequently outside of the law.

So Starfire is an anti vacc’er too. That figures….

I've had all my vaccines, so no not antivaxxer. I just didn't bother with the Covid vaccine....too new, no long term trials on effectiveness or side effects.

Didn't want to be a Guinea pig.

Well, turns out, it never stopped the spread.

Supposedly then, they decided it made symptoms better instead. But since there were so many mild or asymptomatic cases reported in the beginning anyway, before the vaccines, I figure, that claim is questionable to say the least.

They even changed the definition of a vaccine for it. So much money was made. Just have to wonder.

But, I do believe in most vaccines, the old tech ones that actually provide immunity, thus the name immunizations....

So how do you feel about the way your government is putting people off vaccinating against measles?

I won’t do any nested quotes as it’s getting confusing but having seen the pic evidence from several angles it seems to me that the car either brushed the ICE officer or just went very close to him.The wife of the driver was taunting the officer saying ‘go get some lunch big boy’ and the other two officers were repeatedly telling the driver to get out of the car.The wife then opened the car door and said ‘drive baby drive!’ And you see the car lurch forward and that’s when the driver is shot through the windscreen.
In the US you do what armed authorities tell you.
Is it right? I don’t think so but we don’t have armed citizens or routinely armed officers and we have different laws here.
The whole thing is a tragedy that both ICE and citizens have to learn from.

They were doing nothing that was not legal..
They were leaving.
The officers were going against any training they had which is to step AWAY from the car . That is what they should have done and there is an actual law that states that.
That law is there to protect citizens against police overstepping boundaries.
The police in this case did overstep their boundaries.
Renee was murdered and I hope she will be vindicated in the court of law, despite Trump, and his gang of thugs trying too circumvent it by eroding our Democracy at home and around the world .

The Party told you to ignore the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command. George Orwell, 1984

Minneapolis is being overwhelmed by Federal Agents - now outnumbering the local police by a considerable amount.

People are reporting that these agents are now enforcing road blocks in and out of the city.

Tension is bound to mount.

In normal times, the federal agents would be recalled in order to allow the whole situation to calm, but this won’t happen as it suits Trump to have a state of emergency.

My son is saying the situation is a powder keg waiting to explode, similar to George Floyd in a sense.
