Woman shot and killed by ICE officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Yesterday there was a very tragic shooting of a woman leaving the scene of an Immigration raid/incident . The video clips are very disturbing as she is shot and killed by an officer after she was given conflicting information by two officers . One who told her to leave and another who told her to get out of the car.
She was killed by a third officer who was to the side of the car . I can only advise you not to watch the clip if you feel it might be disturbing . I was able to read a good account of it in the NYT and it definitely looks and reads like she was murdered.
She was a white, US citizen not a target of the raid.

I truly feel like the USA is imploding from the inside out and that Trump is creating fires of danger everywhere.

Actually WhitewaveMark2 I live in Europe! 😄

Oreo Fri 09-Jan-26 11:00:57

Yes, I have been to several countries in Europe and the police in Greece and Italy were the worst.

Minnesota is a Democrat state and has a very articulate and outspoken Governor.
“I don’t think any government in history has had to fight a war against the federal government every single day,” the state’s governor said. “We are under assault like no other time in our state’s history because of a petty, vile administration that doesn’t care about the wellbeing of Minnesotans.”

I wasn't meaning to be rude to David. I should perhaps have said 'boasting of British exceptionalism' instead of 'xenophobic' 🤔'

Or perhaps admitted to the truth and said he was perfectly correct.
Police are armed in many countries and it’s not advisable to act in a shouty angry way towards them or disobey a direct order.

Have you ever been to Europe?

You couldn’t be further from the truth.

Is there a reason apart from not wanting illegal immigrants?
We don’t want them here either.

But we don’t have armed and trigger happy border forces.
There is a world of difference.
Trump has sent in this bunch of obviously badly trained gun toting cowboys because this is how he approaches any problem, with brute force, in order to show what a strong armed dictator he is.

America has a President who is out of control.
Having executed what he considers to be a serious of brilliant coups against Venezuela, Russia and Greenland, his increasingly brutal removal of illegal immigrants is exposed by the unwarranted shooting of an unarmed woman.
All followed by incessant boasting from him and his henchmen, including maligning the victim without any form of investigation. (JD Vance)
The behaviour of the Police. Local Guard and or ICE officials, (difficult to identify) on bystanders was shown on news reports last night; spraying pepper spray in their faces then hurling or pushing them over into the snow.

All this emanates from the top, a President who regards himself as invincible, which he appears to be at present.

Make America Great Again?

If people wish to protest immigration trying to find illegal immigrants it’s up to them ( can’t think why they would do it) then they just have to do it in a way that they can stay safe, in a group away from cars with no kind of obstruction at all.
It’s the only way.

I think it a touch naïve to assume that Trump has sent ICE in because of genuine concern about immigration.

I’ve travelled in countries where police and army road checks are routine, you answer questions and obey orders because they have machine guns at the ready. If you attempt to drive off they will open fire.
I’ve seen others marched off a gunpoint because they thought it was funny to make smart comments., customs and police often don’t have a sense of humor.

customs and police often don’t have a sense of humor.

We have encountered that in the USA. Or any understanding of a situation.
Shoot first, ask questions later. Or at least, draw your gun, point at an innocent (if naïve) British citizen and shout.

These were my thoughts too.

The US is returning to the wild west. I send all my hopes for a change soon, to all those who opposed Trump and continue to speak out. Be brave and don't question yourselves. Might used in this way, is never right. Only Right is Might.

And for those asking who is behind this?

It is all in Project 2025.

Absolutely.
Frightening.

Her car was not blocking the road.

It was not preventing the ICE car from passing.

That is the evidence of my eyes from watching the video, several times from several angles.

Her car was not obstructing the road. The video clearly shows another car passing her on the road just prior to the ICE offices approaching her car.

It was sideways on in the middle of the road. Why? If she was there just to observe why not park properly, or park and get out to watch on the sidewalk? There was def obstruction going on, no doubt about it.

Maremia Fri 09-Jan-26 10:13:21

She was told by one officer, to drive away. She was doing that. How is that shouting and disobeying?

Maremia Fri 09-Jan-26 10:11:44

With your statement about Starfire's assessment being a sensible analysis.

Ran across a still picture on the internet for anyone who wonders about the shooting. Looks like at the time of the fatal shot (first one) tires were pointed ahead towards the officer. They turned after.

Could he have just gotten out of the way. She made contact in other video angles, but didn't run him over. It's easy to say yes he could, from our comfortable chairs at home. Maybe. Maybe not.

Although we will never really know, I do not think she intended to run him over nor he intended to murder her.

I think it was a fearful situation for all, something that should not have escalated like it did.

It's a tragedy that could have been avoided, had she not been obstructing or if she had just got out of the car...being arrested for obstructing would have been better than being shot in the head, I think everyone can agree on that.

I think that’s a very sensible analysis of the situation.

“Trump said Good “viciously ran over the ICE Officer,” adding that he is now recovering in a hospital. “I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self defense. Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital,”
Donald Trump, Truth Social

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."

I worked closely with Customs officials (the financial side) in Germany. Spain, Italy, (France was a bit aloof) for a short period in my working life.

They all carried guns. Never used them. But they were pleasant intelligent, very well trained people, who respected people’s rights etc.
As far away from what we witness the ICE agents as they could possibly be.
