Yes, Litterpicker, I was glad to hear that the hunger strikers have relented. I do have sympathy for their position, but did not want their deaths to add to the toll, nor any martyrs to be created, given that their actions were extremely unlikely to achieve any useful outcome.
I am relieved to see that wiser counsel has prevailed.

I have no sympathy for them whatsoever.They were violent to staff at Elbit and deserve their sentences.
The decision to award the contract to a US firm would have zero to do with Palestine Action.
Misplaced tears for those kind of people are wasted tears.

I was certainly nervous - my own (oh dear) government was quite prepared to see them die I do know.

Thank goodness they made concession enough that they binned Elbit Systems. I guess that was the most they felt they could do without conceding.

I had read just how painful it is to starve to death and my fear was the Government knew this fact too - and deliberately ignored it. It did make me feel sick to know this would be the case and had me thinking "But Britain is supposed to be one of the more advanced countries in the world!!!".

This is one of the reasons we are dropping down the human rights table.

It was their own decision to hunger strike for sympathy, but as you see, they didn’t really want to die.

Unless you do force feed ( horrible, painful and demeaning) then you can’t make a prisoner eat.

Yvette Cooper has, rightly, condemned the suppression of protestors in Iran. Perhaps she should have another look at redefining the 'category' of these hunger strikers.

The law should be upheld.

Just because posters think that those on hunger strike were admirable in their support of Palestine, does not make them right.

It wasn’t just support for Palestine it was breaking into the firm and hitting people with a hammer of some type.
They were violent and ruthless.

I wish see an end to the Gaza conflict, what’s happening there is horrific, I too absolutely deny I am in any anti Semitic.

What Hammas did was horrendous, and I utterly condemn it. My only gripe with Israel is their government. Too many normal citizens both in Gaza and Israel have been killed or injured, this will continue to happen until this fighting stops

Glad the hunger strike is over.
I do not condone violence of any kind, so if those on hunger strike committed any acts of violence I imagine the authorities will deal with this accordingly. But I would not wish for anyone to starve themselves in order for their voices to be heard.

They were never going to die. This was not a Bobby Sands hunger strike.

For them to suggest that the government caved in with regard to Elbit is laughable.

And to those who try to boycott Israeli produce, do Google to see what Israel has given to the world. You'll have to get rid of more than a few items.

And of course is not antisemitic. I am against the atrocities committed by both sides and I am Jewish, I also have family and friends who are against the atrocities on both sides.
I mean who can condone the heinous crimes committed by Hamas and then go on to support the heinous war crimes committed by the Israeli government?
There has to be such a thing as balance.

There are about 200 hunger strikes a year in prisons, according to the Ministry of Justice. Official figures show nine people have died as a result of the protests since 1999.
Hunger strikes are deemed to be part of the right to protest under human rights law, which means the state no longer has any power to forcibly feed a prisoner, unless doctors conclude they lack the mental capacity to understand the consequences of their actions.
If a prisoner understands the risk that they may die and has made their wishes clear, doctors will not give them food, even if it would save their life.

I'm not sure what else people would want the authorities to do? If you think allowing hunger strikes is wrong do you want prisoners force fed? Or do you have an alternative nobody else has thought of? Do we give in to every hunger striker to prevent them harming themself? Or only those we think are 'justified' in their demands?
Don't forget a sledgehammer was used by one man on a female police officer who suffered severe injury to her lumbar spine. She was kneeling on the floor at the time arresting a female protester. This was not a 'peaceful protest'. That was a violent act against another human, carried out while in the act of criminal damage.
I support neither Hamas nor the Israeli government in their atrocities.

I have no sympathy for them whatsoever; I remember the details of their 'peaceful protest' (policewomen don't count apparently) and had no doubt also that they would find an excuse for not starving themselves to death.

I can't condone any form of violence. Not that committed by Palestine Action, by Hamas or by the Israeli government.

I do wonder that if supporters of Israel had broken into a Muslim business and done such a thing with a sledgehammer how posters would view their hunger strikes in prison?

If we don’t want a law let’s go on hunger strike to change it ?
