Will you be watching the results?

Would you be up early on Friday morning to watch the Groton and Denton results?

REKA Thu 26-Feb-26 22:22:59

I'll probably see it because I don't go to bed until the early hours. No idea how it's going to go. Greens seem to be in the lead with Labour and Reform jostling behind them.

I think it's a great pity that Starmer didn't allow Andy Burnham to stand. He's popular in Manchester and could possibly have won.

Time will tell!

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 26-Feb-26 22:29:00

I had thought there might have been an exit poll, but obviously not.

MG55 Thu 26-Feb-26 22:29:13

I usually wake up in the middle of the night. Results might be in about 2/3pm so hopefully I will be awake at some point to hear what has happened.
Just do not want Reform to get it!

Tuliptree Thu 26-Feb-26 23:09:27

I wonder if the results might be late because of recounting? Sounds like it might be close

Talk on facebook about something called family voting where groups of people influence other people at the polling station. Don't quite understand it all though.

Reform say it is happening with Muslim voters. That tells me they are expecting to lose and following the Trump playbook.

REKA Fri 27-Feb-26 00:54:36

I think you're right, Tuliptree

BlueBelle Fri 27-Feb-26 04:37:49

GREENS have done it 🤗

MayBee70 Fri 27-Feb-26 04:45:21

What a relief. I was worried sick that Reform would win. Bet they still get lots of media coverage, though.

Sarnia Fri 27-Feb-26 04:50:30

Almost as concerned about the Greens winning as I would be had Reform won. Polanski and Farage are poles apart in their vision of a future Britain and I can't say I like either.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 27-Feb-26 04:51:25

👍🏽. I know nothing about the constituency, but I am hoping that this means that reform has peaked and the Trump factor means that its influence is beginning to wane.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 27-Feb-26 04:52:41

The difference though sarnia one spreads hate and division, the other a much more inclusive message.

mum2three Fri 27-Feb-26 05:59:53

Greens have won! Can't believe it.

vegansrock Fri 27-Feb-26 06:47:53

Yay! I’m not a huge fan of all of their policies but glad that unpleasant Reform candidate didn’t win.

BlueBelle Fri 27-Feb-26 06:48:42

I liked her speech she sounded how Labour used to sound
The lady’s done well

sixandahalf Fri 27-Feb-26 07:12:14

Thank Goodness the thugs were shown the door.

Well done Greens!

It was an independent organisation that was there that noted that there was a lot of "family voting" going on!!!!

Yep.....in other words = a man being allowed to accompany his wife (and adult children) to the booth to physically watch them casting their vote!!!!!! One way of making sure they can't cast their own vote their own way - as he is spying on them and regarding himself as that figure we used to have (in the PAST) that regarded himself as a "head of the household".

There will still be that figure from the history books - called "head of the household" in some communities. Hence it's particularly vital that everyone voting does it in the standard way and goes to that voting booth on their own.

I found it distinctly worrying to think there will have been however many men it was forcing their wife etc to vote their way rather than leaving them to vote their own way. A precursor too for them generally not living normally - ie each person deciding everything for themselves and not looking to Mr Self-Important Bully to make their decisions for them.

I've been very active for the Green Party way back when personally - but I would dearly love to kick that candidate/now MP firmly up her little backside one way or another.

Well said Cariad 👏👏

The so called family voting has been reported on the morning news.

Whether it was one family or 100 it is illegal and therefore should worry those in charge.

David49 Fri 27-Feb-26 08:01:13

Predictably Labour were decimated and that must hurt, but Reform did well too decimating Tories. So it's a battle between Left and Right, in this case Left won.

The Green's aren't going to have a national landslide as we have seen Reform do in council elections in some areas. At the next GE I see a battle between Left and Right a hung parliament, very unpredictable, I doubt Starmer will stay that long.

The bbc are reporting that the official observers didn’t see anything untoward.

What good news!!
I'm delighted.
Good luck to Hannah the plumber. She comes across as a strong, sensible person ready to hold the PM to account.

Graphite Fri 27-Feb-26 08:04:35

Who had heard of this group until yesterday? Polling station staff and police say they saw no evidence of what it claimed was going on.

This was Reform tactics straight out of the Trump playbook to try to claim rigging. Are we supposed to believe there were hundreds of browbeaten Asian women, desperate to vote for Matt Goodwin and his anti-immigration agenda but their abusive husbands were strong arming them into voting Green, and this was observed hundreds of times?

This was a story pushed by Sam Coates for Sky who have been backing Reform throughout this campaign.

Reform need to admit they ran a bad candidate and a bad campaign. They won’t. They are in the business of blaming others, as they always do.

sixandahalf Fri 27-Feb-26 08:08:50

The tedious and well worn trope about Muslim families trotted out again.

Yawn.

Brow beaten? I don't think so.
