Israel and US hit Iran

Trump promises increased bombing and regime change. They are presently hitting Tehran one of the most populated cities in the region.
My heart goes out to innocent Iranians.

Fallingstar Wed 04-Mar-26 15:43:25

Firstly the war was about freeing Iranians from a ruthless regime
Then it was about Iran’s nuclear capability which the US already said it destroyed last year
Then it was about a threat to the US which the Pentagon confirmed is not true
Jeez. Is like a child trying to find an excuse for putting their fingers in the jam.

This reminds me of the 'weapons of mass destruction' as a call to war with Iraq. None were found and so many died.
I think this is a similar ploy.

Maremia Wed 04-Mar-26 15:36:38

Iran no longer has nuclear arms. That's what the summer attack was about.
No imminent threat to the USA. Illegal war.
Glad Starmer is trying to stay out of it.

ronib Wed 04-Mar-26 15:34:28

I have the impression that Iran is still looking for nuclear weapons.

Fallingstar Wed 04-Mar-26 15:33:31

They said that Iran’s nuclear capabilities were destroyed when they launched clinical strikes last year.
Either they were lying then or they are lying now.

The world disorder couldn’t take Iran with nuclear capability so it could be so much worse?

Didn't the US destroy all the nuclear capabilities when they attacked Iran last time.
They seem to be very confused about why they are attacking Iran now.

This new world order seems to be world disorder.

I agree MayBee, it seems really confusing that there is no political body that can rein in Trump and his cronies, I, like you, thought Congress, but seems everyone in the US is as powerless as the rest of the world in this.
How can this be the case??

GoldenLady It is very frightening that people like Trump and Hegseth have so much power and don't seem to know how to use it properly.
Going to war without very good justification is madness.

That’s what I can’t get my head around. I assumed that there was some way that the POTUS could be controlled by congress in some way if he or she went rogue.

Fallingstar Wed 04-Mar-26 15:11:56

Trump should worry, he just took the lid of a Pandora’s box and doesn’t know how to put it back.
And his followers will not be happy with US dollars being spent on a war with a country that they cannot see as a direct threat to them, or happy with the chance of US service personnel coming back in body bags.

Both "geniuses" running this war just appeared on a TV press conference. Trump has an expression that looks like: "OMG, what have we gotten into?" Hegseth is apparently enjoying himself: swaggering like a macho idiot who doesn't care how much devastation he brings on the world, boasting and gaslighting, and actually using the analogy of a football game to describe how we are "winning." They are like two little kids given unimaginable power, who literally don't know what they are doing.

Maremia Wed 04-Mar-26 14:30:30

Shouldn't aims have been stated on Day 1? Has it just occurred to them, to do this today?

Fallingstar Wed 04-Mar-26 14:26:37

The rules of engagement are there to protect both sides in a war, now that the US/Israel have attacked an Iranian warship in international waters Iran will feel justified in targeting western army bases internationally not just in the ME, and I imagine they have cells abroad that can do this.

Today’s objectives re different to yesterday, and to the day before though. It does not inspire confidence.

Thanks Casdon. The US have made a complete mess of this. Going to war on flimsy unbelievable evidence is unforgivable.

Fallingstar Wed 04-Mar-26 14:20:16

Wyllow3 it was a warship off the coast of Sri Lanka. So not within the theatre of war.
And rules of engagement insist those onboard should be warned and captured not killed without warning, but as Hegseth said ‘there are no rules of engagement.’

Fallingstar Wed 04-Mar-26 14:16:40

I just hope and pray that nobody starts throwing around nukes because it seems anything goes atm.

foxie48 Wed 04-Mar-26 14:16:17

Are they the same as were stated on day one, two and three of the war?

"As President Trump said, more and larger waves are coming,” Hegseth said. “We are just getting started. We are accelerating, not decelerating.”
“This was never meant to be a fair fight, and it is not a fair fight,” Hegseth said. “We are punching them while they’re down, which is exactly how it should be.”
“An American submarine sunk an Iranian warship that thought it was safe in international waters,” Hegseth said during a press conference at the Pentagon. “Instead, it was sunk by a torpedo.”
“The first sinking of an enemy ship by a torpedo since World War Two,” Hegseth added.

The above was taken from CNN's report of Hegseth's Joint Chiefs of Staff speech which is ongoing. Sounds as if Hegseth is enjoying his role as Secretary of war. I find him utterly sickening.

Wyllow3 Wed 04-Mar-26 14:15:47

I think the thought of what it will do to his election chances in the mid terms Fallingstar that will bring Trump back from the brink.
His own party. Maybe when imaround comes in she can give us the latest on whether senior republicans are entirely happy.

I presume the Iranian ship was not a warship but a commercial one? More innocent lives?

Fallingstar Wed 04-Mar-26 14:12:37

Jeremy Bowen just on the news commenting on the sinking of the Iranian ship a long way from the war zone, on which were 160 personnel, all missing, no warning was given. He looks by equal parts disgusted and bewildered. As does Lyse Doucet.
I have never known anything like this war and am pretty long in the tooth.
Is Apocalypse Now.

AGAA4 Wed 04-Mar-26 14:11:00

Most of the American people don't want this war. The Arab states don't want the war either.
This war is for Netanyahu and so many killed so much damage being done.
Of course there has to be something in it for Trump. Financially or personally we don't know but he will benefit in some way.

Presumably they will bring this war to a conclusion when they have realised all their objectives which is to kill the top layer of the regime as well as degrade all the military facilities.

You must be the only one in the world including Trump who actually know what the objectives are.

They have been stated just today in an address from the White House.
