Trump promises increased bombing and regime change. They are presently hitting Tehran one of the most populated cities in the region.
My heart goes out to innocent Iranians.

I listened to Lord Richards and he was impressive in his knowledge. He definitely doesn't think there was a properly thought out plan before this war was started by Trump!

Whitewavemark2 Mon 09-Mar-26 15:36:31

I am feeling very, very uncomfortable over those evil looking huge bombers landing in the U.K.

I heard Lord Richards on Radio 4 today. I think I am correct in saying he believes there is no plan or aim to this.

It's very frightening.

I think that it the conclusion that just about everyone has come to, apart from Trump's sycophants.

Somehow it was very frightening to hear his measured tone telling me this.

MaizieD Mon 09-Mar-26 15:26:16

Oh God!

Winning is quite clear, the end of Iranian sponsored terrorism, hopefully leading to a much more peaceful middle east.

Now, about that bridge I have for sale, David...

"Is there really anyone ( except terrorists) who thinks it's good that Iran is developing nuclear weapons and sponsoring terrorism."

I've not seen any evidence that a single poster thinks it's good, what we are discussing is, if this war will make things better, I think many fear that it won't and will probably make things a lot worse.

AGAA4 Mon 09-Mar-26 14:43:10

Of course not but that isn't what this war is about.

There will be no winners in this war Trump claims to have won already which isn't true.
I don't believe the problems in the middle east can be resolved by bombing. When Trump decides he has had enough he will leave Iran with some people smouldering with resentment. So it all starts again ....

It's a war of technology for the US with few casualties so far, video record of much of the strikes. Just over 100yrs ago Britain and Germany were throwing 10000 soldiers a day away in Flanders, for much the same thirst for power.

If Trump achieves his aim it will be worthwhile, if he fails Iran will continue the terrorist line. Now it has started I would prefer him to win

That's the problem, we, quite rightly, condemn terrorists who blow innocent people to smithereens in the name of an extreme religious ideology yet seem able to accept leaders like Trump and Netanyahu blowing up hundreds and thousands of innocent people to achieve their political and financial aims and for Netanyahu, to try to stay out of jail for corruption. Trump et al may see the war as one of "technology" but it's real people who die not avatars.

But what exactly does "winning" mean? for all the parties involved? Can you be specific?

Maremia Mon 09-Mar-26 12:58:59

It's just a real time, real dead, real destruction version of ''Call of Duty' to Trump and Hegsith.

Smileless2012 Mon 09-Mar-26 12:49:43

for much the same thirst for power for Germany David not for Britain, a thirst for power had nothing to do with it.

Trump's behaviour just becomes more bizarre MayBee and I don't understand how the American's can tolerate it either. No respect for the fallen he sent into an illegal war angry.

Do you think the US will do, "boots on the ground"?

And FOX NEWS knew it was wrong to do that, so they played a video from last year, when he was properly attired.

Even knowing how vile Trump is I still can’t my head around him wearing that baseball cap. It’s so disgustingly disrespectful. How on earth can the American people tolerate behaviour like that?

He is indeed a seriously vile man. It is all a game to him. I just despair ...

"It’s war as a video game, isn’t it? Toys for men who never grew up…"

And in Trump's case, dodged the draft. It is utterly shameful. Trump wore a white cap at the transfer of fallen soldiers at Dover Air Base, which broke the dress code and in the eyes of many was disrepectful. What a vile man he is.

MaizieD Mon 09-Mar-26 09:17:28

Heather Cox Richardson says this in her latest newsletter

The official social media account of the White House has portrayed its military adventures in Iran as a movie, or a game, splicing images from what appear to be footage of U.S. military strikes with clips from adventure movies and video games like Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto.

It’s war as a video game, isn’t it? Toys for men who never grew up…

foxie48 Mon 09-Mar-26 09:07:45

“The messaging coming out of DC is almost pornographic. It is like leaders are enjoying the bloodshed, with no clear endgame.

The above was copied from an analysis by CNN of the war on their website this morning and I could not agree more. I find the rhetoric used by Hegseth and Trump is disgusting and also totally confusing about what the actual aims of this war are and how they will know when they have achieved their aims. Gulf states are getting very angry at this war that they didn't want and that is badly affecting their economies. It is affecting all of the world and with another hardline Supreme leader being appointed in Iran, it's clear that Iran submitting to Trump's demands is even further away. Dangerous times for everyone.

Maremia one blessing at least.

Oreo the Admiral chez nous is appalled at the current state of the Royal Navy. He might even reinstate the tot, purely for medicinal purposes of course.

Well. Um...
Definitely not.

I wondered this morning whether they might stop playing that at the Last Night of the Proms 🤔

The Admiral from the Bargy Bar (?) would be turning in his grave if he wasn’t alive and already drunk under the table.

At least we are not 'slaves' to Trump's command.
