We don't,
Trump might pause after a few days to and try to get a nuclear commitment from Iran.
Iran might have a military take over deposing the religious fanatics
Congress might find a way of stopping Trump .
Or several other choices

I would have thought not knowing how a war is going to end is pretty standard.

Is there anything that Trump can’t do without consulting with congress? I had no idea that the president had so much power.

I'm not sure he has absulute power! I get the impression that he does whatever he wants and most Republicans seem terrified of standing up to him. He is bound to get his comeuppance once day.

I heard Emily Thornberry on radio four state sh3 believes this to be an illegal war. I’ve enjoyed her in recent weeks, she seems calmer and less inhibited about saying what she means

Like other posters, we have friends working and living in Dubais. They are currently safe if understandably anxious.

There is absolutely no question that it is an illegal war, just as it was illegal to send troops in to arrest Maduro. Trump isn't bothered about being legal, most of what he is already doing in his presidency is illegal.

And I think many Iranians in desperation do believe Trump is some kind of liberating hero. But they will soon realise that liberation shouldn’t mean being bombed and losing loved ones.

Trump could go home after his game of golf, have a nap, then decide this wasn't a good idea. He seems prone to changing his mind daily.

I understand that regime change is needed in Iran but am not sure this is the way. If innocent civilian lives mount up, which they probably will, the population may cease to see this as liberation and rally round the regime and the military.
It could just go horrendously wrong and the cost to human lives will high.

Regime change is down to the Iranians, Iran have attacked indiscriminately, civilian areas in Dubai,Bahrain etc. Cowards. Saudi Arabia is now supporting Israel etc,due to this bombing of other Arab countries.
I'm watching Tousi TV, direct from Iran and other areas.

I very much doubt that the BBC is on anyone's "side". What an extraordinary comment! Iran is being run as a pariah state, subject to sanctions which are endorsed by most civilised countries. To suggest that the BBC is on the side of Russia and China who regularly ignore these sanctions and terrorist organisations like Hezbollah, Houthis and Hamas is not only insulting but IMO shows a complete lack of understanding of what news reporting is actually about.
I do not support the attack on Iran by the US and Israel because it is illegal, does not have the consent of US congress or senate and does not have clear objectives. What I also strongly object to is the bombing of innocent civilians who have no means of protecting themselves from outside attack or the violence of their own government. Does that mean I am biased or on the "side" of Iran? No. It means I have an opinion based on reading and listening to a wide range of opinion, including the BBC.
