I'm not so sure that past history in Afghanistan and Iraq suggests that this will end well.

In an international situation it is of course international law which applies. It is no use telling a foreign head of state that Uk law says they can't do that in a third country. They would laugh in your face. The fact that Trump is as likely to ignore international law as he is to ignore the constitution of his own country is not a reason for Starmer to throw away the international lawbook. He is pretty keen on UK law, too, unlike some politicians.

International Law. Let's wait and see how many other countries Iran attacks, just for the hell of it, even their next door neighbours, who had done nothing.Where was International Law, and Starmer, and the EU, when Iran thugs were murdering their own people. They cried for help, Starmer and his cronies denied them.
As soon as this evil regime has gone the better.

I am pleased he's not supporting Trump in these illegal activities.
Good for him.

Well…he has u turned again and now he is supporting the US as UK bases can now be used by them for defence in hitting the Iran missile sites.

I have finally got the key to Starmer. He favours International Law, which actually only operates by mutual consent, over British Law. We are in NATO and we are an ally of America.

This is the man who worked with Phil Shiner in prosecuting veterans of the Iraqi War, then denied it, then sent someone else to apologise to the House. He is attempting to overturn the 'Troubles,' Bill in order to prosecute N.Ireland veterans. The British pilots providing defence should be prepared for this.

I support Strmer's stance and hope he sticks to it.

Are you eating your words of yesterday mael13, about Starmer being Trump’s lapdog?

Fallingstar Tue 03-Mar-26 12:56:56

So Trump slags off Europe and the UK for not helping out in the Iraq and Afghan wars, directly disrespecting allies and the terrible losses to their armed forces. And now when he clicks his fingers, with absolute no attempt to discuss the probable need for support in an imminent war, he expects us to jump up and support him in another illegal war.
Am glad Starmer’s legal training kicked in and he is only protecting British interests in the region, as I believe are France and Germany are doing for their interests. Whilst the Spanish leader was much more vocal in as good as telling Trump to get lost.

If Trump doesn't approve, Starmer must be doing something right. Good for him. I just hope he sticks to it…

Congress weren’t recalled, the UN weren’t involved, Iran was in the middle of negotiations, Starmer is a lawyer. It appears that trump has been pushing away his allies and cosying up to other bullies - Netanyahu and Putin. Why would any leader with half a brain want to get involved in this illegal war except in a defensive way?

Maremia Tue 03-Mar-26 12:07:35

Completely out of order.

France has gone to the rescue

AGAA4 Tue 03-Mar-26 11:48:43

He's miffed as Starmer didn't support the illegal attack. Typical Trump to have a hissy fit because he didn't get his own way.

mae13 Tue 03-Mar-26 11:42:46

Well, I never!

It seems Sir Keir's efforts as regards Iran just simply aren't good enough for Mister President.

That's gratitude for you.
