For Margaret, and that "We need a new positive direction and that's Reform." -- I suggest you take a trip to Kent, and ask the locals what a blankety-blank shambles their nice new REFORM County Council has been making of things since taking over, high on the list has been breaking their optimiatic campaign 'promises' (bribes to the gullible voter?).
The fact that you couldn't read the OP properly before (mis)quoting it should tell people plenty about the avg Reform fan?!

Rupert Lowe makes Nigel Farage look like a raging leftie
(131 Posts)No refugees at all, no migrants and send half of the current ones back etc, etc. Bloody Norah, and he says he has a great deal of support. Scary stuff - worse than Donald . Does he really have a lot of support or is it imagination on his part ?

I fully support the banning of halal and kosher meat and have very serious concerns about the niqab, (banned in some European countries). I couldn't care less what label is put on me for that.
I kind of understand (I think), is it your concern about how the animals are kept then slaughtered?
With the niqab, is this around concerns of safeguarding ie difficult to actually see who the person is? Or safeguarding the women who might be wearing them under duress?
All of the above appear to be legitimate concerns and I don’t think this makes you in any way right wing or racist.
I wouldn’t object to the niqab if 1) it could be removed, at request, in places like banks, GPs and hospitals and 2) it was solely the woman’s choice to be wearing one.

Lowe taps into bigotry and ignorance. How many know anything about the teachings of any faith ( other than what parents teach) these days? In the 80s we had freedom to teach comparing and discussing. It was right wing policies that made it much more narrow.
I was lucky having an atheist father who welcomed other faiths as a socialist.Happy for me to go to Sunday school and a C of E school he taught me to make my own mind up. Education, education.
We are all what we are by accident. Hindu, Moslem…
Having freedom to choose is so important and often shunned by the devout in all faiths.
Oh how I agree, yes life was so much better and created more understanding when ALL faiths were taught in schools as part of RE
the mass deportation of illegal immigrants
That would be the one thing I won't argue with.
Illegal does not mean asylum seekers, legal immigrants etc.
Illegal means just that - people who have no right to be here.
Halal slaughter - fine for those whose religion demands this but not universal.
The rest? A very firm No.
Oh, Dickens, life without chocolate would definitely be a return to the Middle Ages, wouldn't it..

Rupert Lowe has tapped in to the fears of many thousands of people in towns / cities who have seen whole areas totally overrun by a culture alien to us, as far as I know he is the only MP who because he is already wealthy donates his monthly salary to charities local to his constituency. Agree or disagree with his politics one cannot deny the man appeals to many people, to use the phrase ‘far right’ as a derogatory term shows ignorance of many folks daily lives.
“Rupert Lowe’s policies, primarily driven through his organization "Restore Britain" (launched June 2025), focus on extreme immigration restriction, including the mass deportation of illegal immigrants to achieve net-negative migration. His platform advocates for replacing UK human rights laws, banning the burqa/niqab, abolishing halal/kosher slaughter, legalizing pepper spray for women, reinstating the death penalty, and reducing public funding for the BBC”

If that isn’t extreme right wing what is?

Which is really weird because where I live, in a Reform Central in Co Durham the only people of non white origin they see are NHS staff, takeaway and fast food staff and local shopkeepers (very hardworking people) and appear to get on absolutely fine with them. Our culture remains much as it always has.
I have no idea how many have graduated to Lowe's party, but I suspect a fair number will have.
I find 'far right' views as expressed by people like Lowe, utterly appalling so it's not a term I'd use as a compliment...

Wasn't Jesus a dark skinned refugee?
It's laughable really.
Exactly. Also the Bible was written by Middle Eastern dark skinned MEN… AND most of the atrocities in the World throughout the Centuries have been caused by RELIGION of VARIOUS SORTS, or by a twisted form of a mix of Politics/so called Patriotism together with Religion! But no one learns from History, and Trump obviously never reads any! He gets his education from films. And this idiot Lowe appears to have been influenced by old black and white ‘feel good’ family films too the rubbish that is spouted!
WHY in this day and age does anyone still believe in a God ( of any variety?

I think that I , and my fellow vegetarians might be a little too " snowflakey" in Mr Lowe's alternative universe: our choices don't reflect good British food from 1952.
I imagine that we might be force fed liver.
... and chocolate will be rationed CLgran!
I think we have to make a distinction between religion and culture.
The latter will hijack the former and twist its teachings to suit a nasty and repressive agenda, if it suits. Throw into the mix those whose reactions are more immediate and visceral, and you can end up with a completely distorted view on any religion.
I'm an atheist, but I do think there is a divergence between a religion and the culture that might support it.
I forgot to say, I'm a vegetarian too!

I was just drinking a cup of tea when I read this comment, most of it is now on the table, hilarious!!
So relieved to see views like mine here. Was beginning to think the tabloids had won the battle of bigotry.
We do not need to go back to this!

No, sixandhalf. He had lovely blonde hair and dazzling blue eyes. You’ve obviously not seen the paintings and movies 😉
Didn’t he preach that all men are created equal ( in the sight if God) Doesn’t that make him a communist?
I took it that graciemabel means Regurgitate, Return to the Dark Ages, or whatever it is that Rupert Lowe’s new party is called, should be got out before they take over. I obviously misunderstood (or should I say Reframed!) her response. Now I’ve had chance to think about it, a good name for a new right wing party would be Return of the Native, maybe that’s waiting in the wings (or Return of the Jedi, perhaps?)
*because not “be use”
Btw, the few on here who appear to hate all things “foreign”, especially the people, I do hope you only buy British food, only eat out in British restaurants, buy all British goods, holiday in Britain, have British GP and Dentist and work for a British Company, be use to do anything else would surely be gross hypocrisy?

Get “who” out?
Every foreigner, immigrants, Muslims, Jews, Reform, Restore
As for “wanting our Country back”, back from where?? It was right here, where it should be, last time I looked.
We cannot go back, it’s impossible, as a woman married to a proud Irish man, I don’t wish to go back, I think our country is stronger, better, more tolerant than it was and, dare I say it, richer for the things immigrants have brought into our country across the last 75 or so years.
I find their culture interesting, I love their food, I enjoy their national holidays and their vibrant and beautiful clothes and their kindness. I know many people of many races/colours/religions, all good, kind, generous hardworking people.
Please don’t start telling me about rapist and violent immigrants, there are nasty evil violent people from all countries, all cultures, all races, all religions and all colours and (ironically on this day of celebration of women), almost all men!
I tell you what, let’s bar men! (Not really, most men are fine!)
You support whoever you please, worship whom you like, but please keep your discriminatory rhetoric to yourselves, I’m pretty sure most of here on Gransnet neither wish to read it nor agree with your views.

I wonder what Native Americans think about all those Europeans who have taken over their country.

I agree absolutely M0nica and Cossy.
I am in my seventies, so remember well the Golden Halcyon Years for which Mr Lowe has such affection.
Women being beaten by their husbands were not worthy of police time ( just a domestic), poor women dying from back street abortions were not uncommon ( the rich, of course, had recourse to discreet clinics), homosexuality illegal, and signs in boarding houses No dogs, No blacks, No Irish..
I prefer the here and now, with all it's problems, thank you.

He speaks for an awful lot of people who agree wholeheartedly with his views.
A couple of weeks ago a female police officer was called to Whitechapel because things were getting out of hand when a white man stood on the street speaking about the Gospel. He was being heckled by a large number of men who informed her that this are was now Muslim. She did an excellent job in talking them down but it is incidents like this that ignite so much concern for many people about where our country is heading. Incidents like this are right up Rupert Lowe's street. He is saying all the things that some people want to hear right now. Restore UK will appeal to many.
You are dead right in everything you say.
Only just heard of this Lowe character
.People are sick to death of being shat on and igmored and being treated as second class citizens in their own country.
They are not fascists but on the whole decent, hard working people who want their country back
