Will this help or will it create further resentment?
Does it create the perception that some groups receive special treatment.

Islam is not a race.

No it isn’t. But the ‘othering’ of all Muslims and dehumanising of them is the same as with racism, they are treated as one homogenous group with no variations and referred to with racist tropes, so the description of racism is appropriate, as it is when referring to Jewish people in a similar way.

Fallingstar Sat 07-Mar-26 20:48:42

I really don’t know enough about this, and hate anyone being called a Tsar, surely that only refers to the royal heads of Russia prior to the revolution. Why can’t we use plain English and clarify what these titles mean.

For what? The eventual enquiry into the rape gangs?

Oh give it a rest.

Yes why not have a tsar for every single identity, dividing us all up by identities/religions/sexualities has worked brilliantly so far. It has been an exemplary method of avoiding division.

Don’t forget redheads. I would like a tsar police for us, to monitor nasty comments made against us.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 07-Mar-26 20:16:42

Division and highlighting races and/or religions hasn’t usually worked 🤷‍♀️

Lathyrus3 Sat 07-Mar-26 20:04:03

Well, beings you’ve asked and I know all the details……………😬

What on earth does what the Israeli Government says about Gaza have anything to do with the British Gvernmentpolicy on appointing tsars?🙄

It reminds me of my Mother -in-law who would bang on about her big operation regardless of the topic under discussion 🤣

Frogoet Sat 07-Mar-26 19:41:40

And for clarity I detest racism or marginalising of any group but no one surely could defend the way the Israeli government speaks on Gaza or Iran? Except Trump who’s not out to defend democracy.
I don’t defend simpletons who blame all Jews. But the blame stands with the ones ( and apparently it’s a distinct majority) who voted in their government and support and defend the illegal settlements. The ones who won’t allow Gaza its territory.

The Brit press remains very quiet on what is intended for Gaza and Iran but Iranian democrat supporters like Mehdi the film maker have no doubt Trump won’t achieve a democratic solution.

Does it need spelling out?

There is already tsar representing the Jews.

He is Lord Mann

What other tsar are you suggesting.

Well I suppose I was thinking of any group that could be on the receiving end of prejudice and hostility.

Homosexuals, lesbians, trans, Moslems, Jews, Hindus, Catholics, Irish, Afghans, Syrians, Afro-Caribbean’s, redheads, the elderly, the unemployed, women!

Each one of those groups encountering discrimination and hostility might question why their is not a tsar for them and become resentful that another group has been given preferential treatment.

Counter productive.

Any ideas, by the way of what the “Islam” tsar would actually do. There’s been no response to my question.

Well assuming this happens - it is only at base level at the moment - we can probably assume that the tsar remit will be the same as other tsars remit.

There are of course other “tsar” type jobs.

Continuing on from the Establishment’s role in encouraging hatred of anyone who defends Palestinian rights.
Read the JC
They press for ignoring British law and human rights more widely.

We had carers from every faith except Judaism. We got on with them. They got on with each other. Christian, Moslem and we atheists.
I don’t meet many Jewish people but thoroughly enjoyed the company of those in this in 2017. Their aim to show you didn’t have to support Israeli foreign policy to be Jewish.

Omg the sooner this lot goes the better. Do they want Reform in?

We don't even know if it's a "fact"!
Or the usual smear stuff.

Maremia Sat 07-Mar-26 19:15:57

Not a politician, so can't answer your question, sorry.
Would be good, if it works.

Frogoet Sat 07-Mar-26 19:14:40

As usual there is this idea that Jews are targeted more than Moslems. Indeed SDianeAbbott was pilloried for saying those of colour deal with more hate crime.
Who’d target a Jew who was not obviously Jewish?
It’s complex in that the ignorant might conflate Jews with Zionists but that is mainly because the Jewish Establishmet conflate them

"The perception of one group being preferred and treated differently is what causes a lot of hostility" that in a nutshell.

Particularly when another section of society who themselves have been "a marginalised group" the working class white girls who have been on the receiving end of racial hatred by a minority of the sector who are to receive their own hostility tsar The balance is skewed.

All acts of religious/racial/ethnic/gender hatred need to be treated equally and dealt with appropriately.

Wyllow3 Sat 07-Mar-26 18:57:10

Can we have just one reliable source that anything is actually on the cards for real, rather than a suggestion made by an individual or a rumour of same that we can actually read?

I looked it up and was confronted by a list of only right wing sources and its speculation Nothing else.

(btw, my view is we should respect and protect all minorities who live, work within the law their rights as citizens as per under the human rights act, if necessary making additional efforts to protect them)

Whitewavemark2 Sat 07-Mar-26 18:56:05

Have either of you read this thread.

Lathyrus3 Sat 07-Mar-26 18:48:48

Surely for balance there would have to. be several tsar for any group that was perceived as suffering hostility.

If there’s only one czar for one particular group people are going to see that as patently unbalanced and see that group as being given preferential treatment.

The perception of one group being preferred and treated differently is what causes a lot of hostility dont you think?

Whether it’s class, ethnicity, gender whatever.

Really bad idea. Seriously divisive and likely to lead to trouble. What is the government thinking?!

Balance?
