Enjoy your cruise Nanna8 😃 I could just do with one as well, after months of rain here!
Recalled for a further appointment after a routine mammogram
A drop in the ocean in the great schemes of things....but replicated by how many more
I am on a cruise with a lot of people from different countries at the moment. I was having a swim when I came across a small group of American women loudly extolling the virtues of ‘ wonderful Donald Trump’ who is ‘ a decisive businessman, just what we needed’ Strewth and stone the crows, I swam off quicksmart, but it made me think how very differently some of us look at things. Maybe they are right but not from my point of view of view.

It's your holiday. You do what suits you.
It is a huge ship so we never see the same people twice, thankfully. We actually spent the evening with a couple of Canadians and some Americans who were not Trump supporters . I wouldn’t have dreamt of butting into the conversation pro trump, I am not that rude. Obviously some people on this forum are but I suppose it takes all sorts. We are not in Australia, I should add.
I've got to say if I had a choice between Trump and Starmer I really think I would pick Trump. He's sorting out the drug dealers and gangs, and illegal immigrants which is more than what Starmer is doing
Trump would like you to believe he is ‘sorting out’ drug dealers and illegal immigrants. He is causing mayhem in some cities. Trump
is a convicted felon, he has started an illegal war with Netanyahu, a war criminal, and id mentioned more than anybody else in Epstein’s diaries.
The illegal migrant issue skyrocketed with Brexit and drugs and gangs have existed through every government in living memory.
This country does not need Trump or anybody like him.
I agree Nanna 8 at least it seems Trump has given his confession that it was a USA missile that struck a girls school due to old fashioned intelligence.
Glad you are enjoying your cruise. When you get back can you give me details of where you departed etc. I ask this as before arriving with my son I thought it maybe an interesting cruise around the Pacific islands. Once with my son my granddaughter also suggested she would like to go on a cruise around the Pacific Islands
That is shocking to hear isn't it? I would have swum away and never gone near Trump supporters again. What a nightmare! I hope that you can get away from them. Luckily we are not brainwashed by Fox News in the UK, not that that's an excuse. Tarifs, wars, escalating oil prices, now hikes in interest rates mortgage, division, tension, uncertainty...all caused by that felon. Well done Trump. Some "businessman".

The Mandelson files are already being discussed on another Thread.
This Thread is about that old man with dementia, Donald Trump.
Where?
Is it a new one or did it start a while ago on a completely different topic?

Why are you so surprised that there are some American residents who support Trump? After all, he was voted in by a majority.
There are people here who believe, or say they do, that Starmer is a good Prime Minister. He was voted in with a majority.
Different opinions.Silly comparison. You may not agree with Starmer's policies but he has never shown disrespect for democratic institutions, held his citizens' lives cheaply or gone to war because he's had his ear bent by a ' very good guy' (Netanyahu).
Well said. It is a very silly comparison. Try as they might, there is very little dirt to dig on Starmer.
The Mandelson files are out for perusal. Let's see shall we!!!

*The Iranians will never surrender to him*
Aren't they all dancing on the streets in jubilation?
We will see. If not we'll live with their threats of nuclear annihilation the organization and funding of terror and importing it. Dont forget IRCG hiding in full sight in our capital city, aided and abetted by our lily livered PM for not proscribing them as the terrorists they are, when most civilised countries have done so. The Iranian women will have to live with their patriarchal, misogynist, homophobic murdering
Islamist gov.

I can understand what those ladies meant if they are seeing improvements in work and conditions in the US because of Trump's administration.
I would also like to see a decisive businessman in this country, carrying out a thorough investigation into the NHS. Someone without a political agenda who could put this wonderful organisation back on track and save £m's in the process which could be better used elsewhere. It has been mismanaged by both main parties for decades and needs an urgent overhaul.
The government dont actually manage the NHS it manages itself. That's what's wrong. Too many chiefs getting too big a slice of the pie. If they were made accountable for the budgets and only paid on the savings results it would be financially better. Plus the advances made in equipment and treatments are very expensive and the public (like it or not) are not really paying enough into it anymore. A similar thing is happening in education, hence all the Academies.

Trumps a grifter not only has he created all the above failed businesses but he and his family were known slum landlords that did not rent to blacks .
He is now being questioned for taking very large donations for the Trump Presidential Library and now that foundation has been closed down and the many millions that were contributed have now disappeared. Trumps a grifter that never stops . USA now has a war that is costing a billion dollars a day. Yet those ladies on the cruise ship are celebrating at the cost of the poor and the working class.

Um, just ant to say that Keir Starmer wasn’t voted in.
The Labour Party was voted in.
I know it must look like nitpuckng, but I think it is a real strength that the Prime Minister is just that. The leader of a cabinet of Ministers who would be able to step in and stop him if he started running amok!
Think if they had any gumption. They would have stepped in and replaced the absolutely dreadful Keir Starmer by now.

It’s easy to imagine that a businessperson could “run the country like a company” and sort out the NHS, but that idea doesn’t really match how the NHS actually works. The NHS isn’t failing because it lacks a CEO‑style figure at the top. It’s struggling because of long‑term underfunding, an ageing population with increasingly complex needs, and a significant proportion of the public living with preventable health conditions. No amount of corporate rebranding fixes those structural realities.
Running a national health service isn’t the same as running a business. A business can cut unprofitable services, shed staff, or raise prices. The NHS can’t do any of those things without harming people. It’s a public service designed around need, not profit, and that means it requires sustained investment, long‑term planning, and policies that support public health rather than short‑term cost‑cutting.
And when people point to the United States as an example of “business‑style leadership,” it’s worth looking at what’s actually happening there. Many commentators and analysts have highlighted that the current administration is facing serious economic, political, and diplomatic challenges, and some argue that its approach has increased global tensions rather than stabilising them. Those are not outcomes most people would want to replicate here.
If we want the NHS to work, the solutions lie in realistic funding, a healthier population, and policies shaped by evidence rather than slogans. A business mindset alone won’t solve problems that are fundamentally social, demographic, and structural.
What Trump does not seem to realise is that when you attack people they get angry and they remember. The drive to get revenge can go down generations and manifest in many different ways. You cannot stamp out a belief by killing people - you are likely to strengthen that belief - part of people's identity - if you attack their nation or group.
The Iranians will never surrender to him
Aren't they all dancing on the streets in jubilation?
Trump is a man/child with a huge ego! Yuk! His ego was bruised when he wasn't nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Congress then voted against him stating the tariffs he inflicted internationally were illegal and he had to remove the. He then made a pouting announcement that he could start wars send missiles anywhere I chose but they won't let me apply tariffs. Severely punctured ego now....so he made a pact with Netanyahu to bomb Iran and Netanyahu could obliterate Lebanon. He has never had any understanding of his position or democracy. I'm glad Starmer took a measured approach and didn't immediately enter this war. Horrific worldwide consequences. The Iranians will never surrender to him. Their beliefs are we win either way as death to them is martyrdom. I only wish someone could stop them. It is an illegal war. You probably did the best thing and swam away....though not sure I could have.

Don't get involved in another country's politics as you don't live there. It will only backfire and cause animosity on your holiday. Maybe Trump has made their life better. I've got to say if I had a choice between Trump and Starmer I really think I would pick Trump. He's sorting out the drug dealers and gangs, and illegal immigrants which is more than what Starmer is doing. Tight control on his borders too. No I don't agree with a lot he's done but some things are better than what's happening here.
But he is ordering the killing of thousands of people and pretending its to facilitate regime change.
A minor detail really.

Unfortunately some of us don't have that luxury as Trump wants to annex my country and probably deprive us of not only our natural resources but our votes as well.
I doubt he'd want 20 plus million additional voters able to decide an American election given how slim his majority was against Vice President Harris and he only won in 2016 because of the Electoral College.

We were taught to never ever to discuss politics, sex, religion or money in polite society.
So my siblings and myself never have. Nobody's business after all and saves any jealousy or arguments.
It's a good rule to live by.

It depends how well you know the people surely? With strangers or mere acquaintances, it’s perhaps wise. If you apply that rule to people you know well, it would make for very shallow, dull conversation.
