Mr Trump Can't Shut This War Down........

.......even if he wants to because he's lost control of Netanyahu.

The Israeli military is going berserk with the full blessing of Netanyahu. The US giving him support was a disastrous mis-calculation and now Israel seemingly doesn't need Trump anymore.

If he thought he would have the Iran business done and dusted in about a week, and he would come out of it as King of the World........well, his biggest mistake (among many) so far.

I still don’t see how it could be mined with certain ships going through.

Are you referring to the mines laid in this particular case ronib, or is that just a generalist comment about the type of mines that are available?

Since we’re talking of possible mines in the Strait of Hormuz it rather goes without saying?

It's easy to drop mines into the sea. How difficult is it to clear them out?
I have no idea, but I hope the Iranians can, if and when they agree to do so.

If the Strait was mined how have the ships from Iran’s ‘friends’ gone through?

Trump lied to justify this war so it stands to reason he'll lie to get out of it.

ronib Mon 23-Mar-26 19:30:53

Mines fall into 3 categories floating, moored and at the bottom of the sea. Could get challenging to negotiate.

Iran is charging 2 million dollars to escort certain ships from the Strait of Hormuz. My question is how can this be done safely if the Strait is littered with mines?

If you have laid the mines you know exactly where they are, and what route to take to avoid them?

Maremia Mon 23-Mar-26 19:20:51

Another question is which ship will be first to try?
Brave captains.

This is Emily Maitlis on LBC speculating on what Trump said this morning, why he said it, and what is really going on, it’s worth a listen.

foxie48 Mon 23-Mar-26 19:01:24

Trump's problem is that he's told so many lies that no one actually believes anything he says. He's turned into the little boy who cried "wolf" but unfortunately he's also got his hands on the most powerful army in the world!

Whitewavemark2 Mon 23-Mar-26 18:42:31

To absolutely no one’s surprise whatsoever the Iranians have denied that any talks have taken place.

Apparently it is incredibly difficult and extremely dangerous. It seems that who ever did the job needs Irans cooperation, which is why at the moment Iran has the world over a barrel (of oil😊)

Facebook, I know, has an article implying that Egypt, Qatar and yes, the UK have facilitated these back channel talks.

Yes a commentator said the Starmer had been very influential.

I would like to think that the U.K. had a hand in the peace deal.

If it is all true.

AGAA4 Mon 23-Mar-26 14:03:53

We know how Netanyahu works. He will want to carry this war on for as long as he can. He's not concerned about his people being hurt and killed which will happen more as time goes on. This is not Gaza. Iran are fighting back.

Wholly agree if lying gets the war to stop then thank goodness.

But

We are still stuck with the mines and Israel continuing the war.

AGAA4 Mon 23-Mar-26 13:38:28

Not sure about all this. Iran have denied having talks with Trump and seem intent on carrying on.
He needs to extract his country from this needless war. If lying about constructive talks gets the US out then that can only be a good thing.
Trump is unable to say who he had the talks with and a vague mention of representatives. Surely he would have a name?

Whitewavemark2 Mon 23-Mar-26 13:37:48

100% Israel will continue - Netanyahu has to stay out of prison.

Fallingstar Mon 23-Mar-26 13:35:41

Trump is under increasing pressure domestically from his MAGA faithful and just about everyone else to de-escalate the war. Trouble is we don’t know what Israel will agree to. They could carry on bombing Iran unilaterally despite what pressure Trump is under.
Netanyahu is certainly not known for throwing in the towel a few weeks into a killing spree.

I fervently hope that Trump is telling the truth.

We will know soon enough.

It may be just a case of TACO.

I'm wondering what a taco has to do with this, then looked it up 😀

Well, we don't know from one day to the next, do we!

The pundits are puzzling it out but the world with Trump as POTUS is unpredictable.

Yes, he is supposed to be in very productive talks - hmm🙄.

Yesterday he was going to bomb the hell out of Iran.

From our and the rest of the worlds point of view (except China) we are still stuck with a heavily mined Strait. Only Iran knows where these mines are. Needless to say the USA is not involved as they don’t use it.

Well done Trump and many thanks.

I guess your little short attention span will now turn to Cuba for a few days. I guess Greenland is still holding its breath.

Maremia Mon 23-Mar-26 13:17:41

But, it might be his way of pulling back, without losing face.
Telling truths or telling lies, if the bombings stop, that works for all of the ordinary people on whichever ground.

foxie48 Mon 23-Mar-26 13:06:35

Iran has said they have not taken part in any negotiations and that Trump is buying time. Qatar has said it is not involved in any peace talks but Oman said it is trying to find a way of getting the Strait opened but have said also that this war is not of Iran's making! I wouldn't trust Trump and clearly neither do the Iranians.

Maremia Mon 23-Mar-26 12:51:05

Trump has claimed productive discussions. Hope he doesn't mention any names.
Regime Leaders, those who are prone to negotiation, seem to have been targeted for elimination.
