The US are wise to have persuaded DT to extend the ultimatum to 5 days, as 48 hours was never going to be long enough, also the US and Israel can continue to pound targets for longer.

Will they open the Strait of Hormuz. They won't trust Trump at all and that is their only bargaining power.

Because they had advantageous import/export deals with Iran. Therefore they want Iran to retain ownership and control of Iran's very desirable assets.
