Mr Trump Can't Shut This War Down........

.......even if he wants to because he's lost control of Netanyahu.

The Israeli military is going berserk with the full blessing of Netanyahu. The US giving him support was a disastrous mis-calculation and now Israel seemingly doesn't need Trump anymore.

If he thought he would have the Iran business done and dusted in about a week, and he would come out of it as King of the World........well, his biggest mistake (among many) so far.

Trump's threat to Iran that they have 48 hours to open the Strait has resulted in Iran saying if Trump takes action they will close the strait to all shipping.

I hadn’t realised that the government had issued any new advice apart from saying we as a country can’t be hit with a ballistic missile? Given that we don’t have an iron dome, it’s not very helpful because we can be … let’s wait and see what next week brings…..

Yes it has. Why anybody could possibly think that the government’s emergency preparedness information for citizens in emergency situations should be ignored is beyond me, when it’s just sensible suggestions for all of us to do what we can to help ourselves.

LemonJam Sun 22-Mar-26 17:59:18

GG13- I share your frustration. This OP is 9 days in and Mr Trump continues to make mistakes, continues to create chaos and still has no clue how to shut this war down yet save face.

LemonJam Sun 22-Mar-26 17:56:40

Israel's unsubstantiated claim is just that- unsubstantiated.

If you prefer to put your faith in Netanyahu and/or Trump and agree with them rather than the British government- feel free ronib.

As Trump and Natanyahu started this war, created this 'incredibly tense and unknown situation" I prefer not to put my faith in them thank you.

In whom should we put our faith?
Trump?
Netanyahu?

ronib Sun 22-Mar-26 17:34:16

It’s a bit premature to agree with anyone LJ but don’t let that stop you. It’s an incredibly tense and unknown situation and your faith in this government is perhaps misplaced? Steve is not credible.

LemonJam Sun 22-Mar-26 17:17:49

agree with Casdon and Allira...

LemonJam Sun 22-Mar-26 17:16:55

Allira : 'So what do you suggest we do about it, ronib?'

Casdon 16.30: "My first tip would be to follow government guidance on preparing for an emergency situation. The second is to pay no heed to ronib, who never provides any answers to the ‘dilemmas’ she poses".

ronib 17.04: "Wow Casdon…. You think I should give answers???"

Casdon you hit the nail on the head, ronib is "wowed" that anyone could think she might provide any suggestions or answers to the particular dilemmas she poses 😉😅.

I agree it's sensible Casdon- when and if any government guidance is necessary and issued we then follow it. Steve has been doing the media rounds today and has publicly stated that there is no assessment to substantiate Israel's claim that Iran has long range missiles capable of reaching London.

Casdon Sun 22-Mar-26 17:09:34

What I think ronib is that every time somebody says something you disagree with, you throw a dead cat ‘dilemma’ into the conversation, you just did it again in fact.

ronib Sun 22-Mar-26 17:04:48

Wow Casdon…. You think I should give answers???
I am sitting tight over the next few days. I suggest you do the same before jumping in…. Or leaving the country…. Maybe move to Scotland?

Allira Sun 22-Mar-26 16:55:07

Casdon sensible answer.

For anyone who has fridges and freezers well-stocked (and that includes me) what happens if the electricity goes off?
We don't have a generator!

Casdon Sun 22-Mar-26 16:30:11

Allira

ronib

But it’s so not a game for me. I’m amazed by the misinformation being spread by Labour at the moment. It’s better simply not to listen. Gg13

So what do you suggest we do about it, ronib?

Bywe I mean us, Gransnetters and in fact the wider public?

My first tip would be to follow government guidance on preparing for an emergency situation. The second is to pay no heed to ronib, who never provides any answers to the ‘dilemmas’ she poses.

The UK Emergency Alerts system will only function on compatible devices ( e.g iPhones connected to 4G or 5G networks. Alerts will not be received if the phone is switched off, in airplane mode, connected only to 2G/3G or via wi fi.

True. On the other hand sirens did not reach every citizen either. Neither did church bells. Until we all have a chip, I don’t honestly see how it will be ever possible to guarantee every citizen gets a personal warning?

In a way that hitting a nuclear plant in Somerset or somewhere, wouldnt??

Really?

Hinkley point won’t be operating until 2027- 2031.
So hitting a nuclear plant in somerset is irrelevant.
But if I was the enemy I would go for Sizewell B in Suffolk.
It’s also closer to Kent.

fancythat Sun 22-Mar-26 14:24:12

Ir an had better hit London in that case! More effective! People will take more notice! hmm.

Not getting at anyone.

I hd no idea bombing London would be so more effective.

fancythat Sun 22-Mar-26 14:21:11

I can see that it is not just the media that are London centric.

I’m a proud northerner, Manchester my city. Or town as locals call it

Despite this, I easily see why London is often mentioned as a target. It’s as Petra posts the centre of our government, military hq. And so much more. It would cause mayhem and lower confidence if missiles hit

Maremia Sun 22-Mar-26 13:17:01

Joke doing the rounds on Facebook today,
'The war is going so badly just now, they might release the Epstein Files as a distraction'.

Allira Sun 22-Mar-26 13:16:33

Yes, and the crypt under Canterbury Cathedral!

petra Sun 22-Mar-26 13:14:41

Allira

There are many tunnels under Kent so people could shelter there if a warning is given.

Don’t forget the dungeons in Dover castle. 😉

You’ve asked several times, why London?
London houses our government buildings, military headquarters and our leaders.
Bombing London could shatter the decision making chain leading to chaos leading to the slow down of our response.
I very much doubt you could cause that much damage in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone. 🤷‍♀️
Perhaps you know more than is generally known about the secrets that Kent is hiding.
