Mr Trump Can't Shut This War Down........

.......even if he wants to because he's lost control of Netanyahu.

The Israeli military is going berserk with the full blessing of Netanyahu. The US giving him support was a disastrous mis-calculation and now Israel seemingly doesn't need Trump anymore.

If he thought he would have the Iran business done and dusted in about a week, and he would come out of it as King of the World........well, his biggest mistake (among many) so far.

^I think the plan is to make the Trump family more prosperous, not the USA^

I dont actually much doubt it. But where is the proof for that?
I am not normally a poster who asks for proof.
But I would like to know if this is true or not.

Doesn’t his SIL, when he is acting on behalf of America when it comes to peace negotiations etc do trade deals at the same time? My partner said during Trumps first presidency ‘ he’s creating a dynasty’ and he is. I bet he and his cronies made a killing on the stock markets prior to Trump declaring his illegal war on Iran.

The internet is full of allegations on the amo7nt of money the Trump family is making because of the war
I don’t know how true this is but his obsession with The Deal remains

Trump is winning the economic war against China and that will doubtless make America more prosperous and will keep the voters happy. Wish we had someone who could make us viable if not rich ….

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at that stupid statement.
I’ll go for laughs 😂

Trump is a danger to the world.

Can’t say I accept your proof for your laughs. You don’t have any…. petra. Helen Thompson is streets ahead if you take the trouble to listen.

Casdon article doesn’t mention oil and gas? Helen Thompson is definitely worth listening to.

There has been an enormous turnaround in the polls in the USA , which has for decades shown a huge majority in favour of support for Israel.

This now has been drastically reduced with a big majority in the independents and democrats now supporting the Palestinians or no longer supporting Israel. This failure to support for Israel is so critical that AIPAC has had to hide the funding for support of any pro- Israeli candidates in the elections.

Sadly Israel has lost much of the support it once had in the world. I feel desperately sorry that a nation formed to give the Jewish people who had suffered so terribly in the Second World War has become an outcast due to committing its own war crimes.
I imagine relatives of mine who perished in Treblinka will be turning in their graves.
Whatever Netanyahu has done is not in their names or in mine.

Well said. My partner always says how can people who have suffered so much inflict the same to others…

Seconded to you both

Helen Thompson professor at Cambridge University has some great podcasts on the subject and doesn’t mention the Trump family once. Think more about geo politics is her theme.

Would just like to say Happy Newruz to all Iranians living abroad or being bombed in Iran. Hardly time to celebrate. An Iranian family near us are not about to party as they usually would but instead will be attending a candlelit vigil.
Not to be mixed up with Eid. This is their new year, the biggest celebration on the Iranian calendar.

foxie48 Fri 20-Mar-26 08:38:10

I still keep wondering what Netanyahu has on Trump. Trump could control Israel easily, the US basically funds Israel's military so a threat to reduce funding would bring Netanyahu to heel. It's the same with Russia, Trump could assist Ukraine to win against Russia but he doesn't and Russia is the only country benefiting from this war. Does it really link back to Epstein? It does make me wonder!

Whitewavemark2 Fri 20-Mar-26 08:30:31

I think that it is becoming increasingly clear that there are a number of divergences occurring both between Israel and USA and within the trump government.

We know from what Vance and Rubio have said that they wish to deescalate the war, and perhaps return to the negotiating table (which they should never have left). On the other hand we still have Miller and Hegseth who, with their cartoon version of the war, are clearly enjoying the rush it is giving to their egos. Trump is stuck in the middle spinning like a top.

With regard to Israel - Netanyahu has absolutely zero intention of stopping the war. How can he if he wants to prevent the court trial and imprisonment?

Trump wishes he was anywhere but in Netanyahus camp as there-in lies mid-term election defeat and a presidency that is going down the pan.

Meanwhile the rest of the world looks on, hopefully more confident by the day that standing up to Trump will no longer bring opprobrium on their country, other than rude language.

Now it would appear that the Saudis and Iran are communicating about an attack on a Saudi oil facility. Not sure which one
Iran is denying the attack. Saudis are re-assessing who could be the culprit.

As in possible "agent provocateur" actions?

Looks like Trump and Netanyahu may be at odds after Israel's strike on South Pars gas. It seems he has rebuked Netanyahu. BBC news.

Yes, that seemed pretty clear. N had changed what he had to say within one day. there were, iirc, before and after speeches both played. Whether T knew or not and it was a charade for the world's benefit, is another matter.

I watched Question Time last night - I don't generally

- my, how attitudes to Starmer have changed, just over this.

Reform and the Conservatives had no applause on this issue because they were quoted (their words were read out) as wanting Starmer to join the USA before Badenoch changed her narrative.

We Streeting was very good on the facts around negotiations which were actually well under way with Iran as regards the nuclear issue and we should have stuck with that for longer.

The Green Party lady (sorry, cant recall her name) said we shouldn't be allowing UK bases for attacks at all. I must admit to mixed feelings on this one. My heart says I agree with her, my head says it was a necessary choice in our circumstances. And I don't feel I know quite enough, either.

Either way it was devastating yet again on the news to watch innocents in Tehran - and Lebanon - suffering, and Hegseth's slick, meaningless, words about regime change.

This was never a way of effecting regime change. Apparently the members of the regime that are left are more hardline than Khamenei. In Iran, some of the regular police have stopped turning up for work as in not supporting the regime, but the Revolutionary Guard as still out in force, no change there.

They are both lying. Trump knew about the attack, Israel did act alone but Israel had told the US what they were going to do. There are people on Trump's team who said that Trump knew but obviously they are giving this information privately.
