Just seen Matt Goodwin has a new book due to be published on monday called Suicide of a Nation. He has an extract from the book in the Daily Mail today, which is excellent. I think this will be well worth purchasing.

Meandrogog 18.05 "The author has said it was not backed by any major publisher as he would not have been allowed to say what he wanted You did not mention that in your post! It seems to be selling well......"
You prove the point I am making Meandrogog- thank you ☺️
It doesnt mean that what he says is not true.

It isn’t available at Waterstones. If you go on their website it says they can get it from the publisher for you, but it is not a stock book. I haven’t checked the others.
Foyles says the same.

I asked Google
'How many copies of' Suicide of a Nation' by Matt Goodwin have been sold?'
Google said,
The exact number of copies sold of Suicide of a Nation by Matt Goodwin is not specified in the available sources. However, it is noted that the book is published in partnership with Whitefox, and a Founder's Edition is available, indicating that there may be a limited number of copies. Additionally, the book is currently unavailable for purchase on platforms like Waterstones and Foyles suggesting that is may not have a significant market presence.'
Load of rubbish. It is available at Waterstone’s, Blackwell’s and Foyles.
There is a difference between reading the biography of a well known former politician and a political commentator though, given the former is somebody who you already know of, and has had an eminent political career and the latter isn’t. I read Michael Heseltine and Ken Clarke’s memoirs because I respected them and was interested in their opinions.

Doesn’t mean his book isn’t worth reading.I would also read a book by a political commentator with a left wing bias.
Absolutely Oreo. Some people are so narrow minded.
I stopped voting Labour many years ago but I have bought and read all of former Home Secretary Alan Johnson’s memoirs and one of his novels. I really enjoyed them too.

Books by politicians are usually entertaining and informative.
Goodwin isn't a politician, he's a political commentator with a far right bias.
More sell as Kindle books than actual books too.

It’s how self promotion works, big yourself up. If you self fund the publication of a book you have a small number printed initially because it costs you if copies don’t sell.
That was the old way of self publishing but it differs with Amazon if they agree to take your books, a colleague of mine has written five books so far and that’s what she told me.

LemonJam you’ve invested a lot of time about this book😄
I wonder why?
I will have to see if the library is buying the book as it’s a bit expensive.
Like all political authors it may be reduced in price after a while.
If you have any sales figures Meandrogog do let us know- Matt Goodwin doesn't want us to know 😉

Exactly Maremia- no sales figures available and just a limited number of copies available- all within Matt Goodwin's control.
Whitefox is not a traditional publisher- it focuses on authors that wish to self publish- it advises independent authors, but the author retains creative control and is the sole rights-holder.
Easy to see why Matt Goodwin has chosen this route for this particular book at this particular time ( in context of his current political ambitions with Whitefox. In this way he is his now brand manager- hype manager via his Facebook account.
His previous books were published in the more usual way, via various main stream publishers- Penguin, Oxford University press, Cambridge University Press etc.

Matt Goodwin reported on Facebook yesterday that his book was in 'high demand leading to stock shortages on Amazon'.
What he failed to disclose was how many copies of his self published books he has actually released and how sales figures to date. Of course he wouldn't disclose such facts 😉 😂- hype and smoke and mirrors has more value to his self interests.
His book is not backed by any major publishing house. He therefore retains control over its release. It will be interesting to see whether the book ever makes an entry to any meaningful book sales lists- rather than just Amazon.
I posted the first 1 star amazon review of the book from 'Jim' on 19/3 in a 10.30 post. There are a few more reviews available now if anyone cares to look- seemingly a mixture of one star or 5 star reviews making 2 and a bit stars overall. More one star than 5 star- the 5 star evidently from people that share Goodwin's views and motivated to buy it. So the reviews overall evidence contains few facts, puts forward his divisive and offers little in the way of solutions. Those that don't share his views evidently are hardly unlikely to buy the book in the first place. It's clear Goodwin's views didn't go down well enough in Gorton and Denton by election recently thus he failed in his attempt to become an MP.
The posts on this thread evidence there is not much appetite from the majority of posters in buying the book. But I hope you enjoy your copy when it arrives Meandrogog.

I am looking forward to reading it.

There is little anyone can do to prevent the decrease in people following the Christian faith unless we want to return to the (first) Elizabethan or Jacobean eras when people were finded for not attending church. We live in an age of enlightment, science and freedom of thought.
In the 2021 census for England and Wales:
• 27.5 million people described themselves as Christian, a decrease from 33.3 million ten years before.
• 22.2 million said they had no religion up from 14.1 million ten years before.
3.9 million said they were Muslim up from 2.7 million ten years before.
1 million said they were Hindu up from 818,000 then years before.
* The census question is voluntary. 6% of people didn’t answer it.
The population in England and Wales rose by 11 million over the ten years to 2021 from 56 to 67 million. The number of births and deaths tend to be the same at around 600,000 each every year so cancel one another out. In other words, population growth has been driven by migration. However recent reports say that migration is predicted to reduce rather dramatically.
Meantime, the number of deaths is predicted to rise as baby boomers come to the end of their lives. The birth rate in those years was up to 300,000 a year more than it is now.
ONS predict a population of around 72 million by 2031.
If the population rose by 11 million over ten years but there were only 1.2 million more Muslims then who were the other 9.8 million? Is Goodwin alleging that there are many Muslims not declaring themselves as such?
There are no official numbers after that. The Muslim Council of Great Britain estimates that Muslims comprise 6% of the population.
Goodwin’s theories seem predicated on the notion that white Britons do not have as many children as those from ethnic minorities.
I can find no evidence for this. Follow the link to the ONS table here which has data up to 2024/25 and select Table 1.
www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/livebirths/adhocs/3212numberoflivebirthsbyparitysexandethnicityofthebabyenglandandwalesbirthsregistered2021to2025adjustedforfinancialyearsapril2021tomarch2025
The total live births (not shown but I summed them) were 537,422. 411,498 were to White British mothers.
Look at column 3 for the number of previously live born children. Each ethnic group is divided into whether it's a first second or third child. Prsumably larger familes are in that last grouping.
This table doesn’t scream that people from ethnic minorities are generally having more children.
It's always better to get data from the ONS, the people whose job it is to collect and analyse it rather than to believe the scaremongering of a bitter man miffed because he was beaten by a young, white, working-class woman in a by-election.
My favourite cartoon from that edition of Private Eye was: Plumber Hannah stops the cock.
I'm reminded of the wonderful Clive James and his poem, The Book of My Enemy Has Been Remaindered. I predict Goodwin's will be selling for a £1 in The Works very soon.
No. It costs £20.
25Avalon 9.45
Have you bought the book and read it yet 25Avalon? If so how was it?
I've just googled its ranking on Amazon and its overall rank is "within the top few thousand books on Amazon.com" I then had a look for the book's ratings on Amazon- there is only one rating so far- from Jim who gave the book just one star ⭐️. Jim posted this:
"I found it to be lacking in actual facts, much like the author's recent electoral campaign where his politics were roundly dismissed, to have taken the publics rejection of his politics and views so personally only speaks to the man's character being uniformly out of touch with a long established multicultural population".
I don't think I'll be buying the book on such a poor personal recommendation.
