Is it time to think of this ongoing situation as having a long sell by date?
I’ve been hoping that it will all be over by next winter but reading an article in the paper today and scanning the readers responses I’m wondering of I’m wrong.
I and a few others on this site have probably had experience of heating only one room so we know that it’s possible but many other things have changed enormously over the years.
Food prices may go up, we certainly aren’t self sufficient any more.
I wonder if the spare allotments in our village will be snapped up. We grow a lot of veg anyway and perhaps people will want our surplus apples this year?
I am already planning my trips to use as little fuel as possible.
Should I be phoning up the solar power installers ASAP?
My family and I have lived through riots (Mao) water shortages during our lives so think it’s a good idea to hope for the best but do a bit of planning, just in case.
Any great ideas, not stockpiling- that just leads to more problems.

Helium is extensively used in many types of industrial engineering, the health service, the nuclear industry, computer industry it's hugely important.

Plus, I would say it is the little people on the whole who are doing that.
If you even go as far as an Industrial estate in any town. they are awash with plastic.
Not sure anything changed at all., any further up the food chain so to speak.

I won't be stockpiling anything. I wonder if petrol will be rationed. Air fares will go up, food costs will go up.
For some of us who are hanging on, this will have an impact.
We're just carrying on regardless.
At the risk of being accused of having a “Pollyanna” attitude I’m just going on as normal. Careful with how we spend but not so frugal as to be miserable. Enjoying and grateful for the life we have but very aware of the suffering in other parts of the world. I can’t see the point of panicking or fretting, it won’t help me or mine and certainly will not help those living in horrendous war zones either. If it becomes apparent that major lifestyle changes are needed for us then they will be made but until then is business as usual for me. My only real concern is for my children and grandchild, who knows what lies ahead for them. But then that concern is part and parcel of being a parent, it’s in the job description.. the one I never read before having a large family!

We have a ewbank, and I swear by it, so useful when the GCs have been crumbing biscuits on the carpet, saves hoiking the hoover out.
I have a handheld Dyson, useful for picking up crumbs and for the car but of course it needs recharging!
I stocked up with Ashbeck water from Tesco which was
unavailable for months.
Delivery of water is limited by weight, so now I’m buying
a 4pack fortnightly.
I bought an extra jug and filters
Where do we buy water purifying tablets?
Pasta and rice is meaningless without (copious
amounts of) water
I always have matches and candles, torches, batteries,
hot water bottles and my son bought me a powerpack
We are all electric here which could be grim but at least
we are heading into summer and not living in tents as has
been noted. ^^
Toilet paper seems to be thinner and thinner.
We used to buy Waitrose own 24 packs which became progressively rougher and rougher until I felt like Baloo rubbing up against that tree bark
so still experimenting but stocked up with Tesco own.
I have tins of fruit, various beans, coffee and dried foods.
I don‘t know what else we can do.
Im hoping trains and buses will still run albeit with
a possibly reduced service. Petrol may well be rationed.

I the medium term I don't have any concerns for the UK we might get fuel rationing but the UK produces most of our gas and oil and with warmer weather we need less, solar and wind produces a lot of our power. We will have to tighten our belts maybe cancel holidays overseas, we have all been there before, we will tough it out.
Im concerned if Trump decides to abandon the war without a decisive victory or it drags on for 12 months. Trump was foolish to start the war, if it's not finished we will end up worse off. Oil is going to be restricted whether Hormus is open or not, if Trump does succeed in regime change there will be a penalty because we didn't help him, I wish I was confident of any outcome.
I just can get myself worked up much about the Iran situation.
Easy I know, when I am not in the area, or know of anyone there.
I cant see Mr Trump hanging around there long.

My sister gave me a box of 36 loo rolls as a house-warming present a month or so ago. We were downsizing and she reasoned that we wouldn't want more stuff.
I’m still using up the Covid toilet rolls!
No, just frugal as is our norm.
Only things I ever buy in when potential crises loom are water purification tablets, candles and matches. And ensure we have plenty of husband’s meds.

I swing between not worrying and then thinking about a minor change.
Have bought a solar powered charger to charge my phone. And have also ordered an electric hob only 2 plates in case we lose the gas.
But I think they will just be things that clutter up the shed.
Gas plays an important part in generating our electricity.
They are not called gas fired generators for no reason.
