Well Wyllow3 I’m Jewish too and it may surprise you that not all agree!
The present conflict in the ME is used as an excuse to be anti semitic and there is no gainsaying that.Anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows that Jews in the UK have zilch to do with anything happening in that region.
Are British Muslims now being blamed for the things Iran is doing, targeting their neighbours in unfair retaliation? The truth is that for any amount of years there are those who simply dislike either Jews or Muslims but somehow this conflict between the US and Israel against Iran has given a green light to those in the UK so that it’s acceptable to target Jews either verbally or physically, and even those who are generally not antisemitic have chosen to ‘take sides’ and look sideways at Jews. It’s a situation almost as old as time.
As I stated on the Margate art gallery thread, I perceive the attacks on the Jewish community to be three pronged. From the far right, the far left and Islamists, the latter at times find support among a minority of the far left, their hatred, whilst not as overt and out there as Islamist hatred, nevertheless can be very thinly veiled. In this latest attack the names of the perpetrators denoting ethnicity really isn't a surprise.
The hatred and the targeting of Jewish communities through the passage of time has in some scenarios gone back to the utterly spurious claim from the predominantly Christian world "they killed Jesus" The role played by the Roman conquerors of the day has never been transferable to their modern day descendants, whoever they might be, because blaming any race for an event that happened 2000 years ago is beyond ludicrous. Jews as a collective have had umpteen spurious allegations laid at their door throughout history, underpinned at times by that primary accusation. To add to that, they now as a race are obviously from some quarters, culpable for whatever ills the Israeli government are carrying out. Oh and add this one into the mix, the time immemorial misnomer which always presents as a recurring theme, "all Jews are rich and they control the world's financial systems" a theme personified in so called artworks.
I continue to view our Jewish community as one of the most vulnerable and at times I feel they don't have the cordon of protection thrown around them that other demographics enjoy.
