Voluntary Jewish ambulances, run by a Jewish charity, have been set alight in a car park in Golders Green North London.

How much more hate can be thrown at one group of people in our country?

If you attack jewish people because of the actions of a government in another country you are a maniac. I don't want this war being fought on the streets of this country.

Well Wyllow3 I’m Jewish too and it may surprise you that not all agree!
The present conflict in the ME is used as an excuse to be anti semitic and there is no gainsaying that.Anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows that Jews in the UK have zilch to do with anything happening in that region.
Are British Muslims now being blamed for the things Iran is doing, targeting their neighbours in unfair retaliation? The truth is that for any amount of years there are those who simply dislike either Jews or Muslims but somehow this conflict between the US and Israel against Iran has given a green light to those in the UK so that it’s acceptable to target Jews either verbally or physically, and even those who are generally not antisemitic have chosen to ‘take sides’ and look sideways at Jews. It’s a situation almost as old as time.

I fear some people might now been given the excuse they were looking for to express their dislike of Jews. But it was always there, pretty much since time immemorial.

Jews have always been targeted for being Jews, useless looking for a cause,

Oreo Sat 04-Apr-26 09:02:29

….and it must be remembered that it isn’t Jews here in the UK that ever cause any problems to others.

Of course, I realise people disagree, it's why we are discussing it. But it is important to realise there are different views and that many do wish to ask "why change, why worse".

It will happen anyway, and if we dont join the dialogues then we dont get to consider possibilities. Any analysis that might help, imo, can only be good. I really don't get the problem.

If we start from the premise that the Jewish peoples have always had anti semitism directed agains them

but it has varied in different times and places

why not ask

"why"?

Oreo Sat 04-Apr-26 09:12:06

Because the answer is the obvious one perhaps.

I think if you are Jewish you will not have been totally surprised at the attack on the Manchester Synagogue. Up until then, antisemitism was always manageable in our country, but now it is happening on a weekly basis.

The latest attack on Jewish ambulances of all things, just shows what depths people will sink to to express their hatred. The people who committed this crime weren't from the local area, just bearing a grudge. They had travelled across London to reach their target.

I don't see how we can stop such incidents becoming normalised in the future. It's a very scary situation, and I'm sorry Keir Starmer, words are not enough.

And there is always a reason. Same as men attacking women. She goaded me, I lost my temper, it was a mistake, etc. I am not actually interested except to say again I don't want this enacted on the streets of this country, which to be honest is I think the only sane position.

Two young men have been charged with setting these ambulances on fire. Iqbal and Khan. A third man has not been named.

As I stated on the Margate art gallery thread, I perceive the attacks on the Jewish community to be three pronged. From the far right, the far left and Islamists, the latter at times find support among a minority of the far left, their hatred, whilst not as overt and out there as Islamist hatred, nevertheless can be very thinly veiled. In this latest attack the names of the perpetrators denoting ethnicity really isn't a surprise.

The hatred and the targeting of Jewish communities through the passage of time has in some scenarios gone back to the utterly spurious claim from the predominantly Christian world "they killed Jesus" The role played by the Roman conquerors of the day has never been transferable to their modern day descendants, whoever they might be, because blaming any race for an event that happened 2000 years ago is beyond ludicrous. Jews as a collective have had umpteen spurious allegations laid at their door throughout history, underpinned at times by that primary accusation. To add to that, they now as a race are obviously from some quarters, culpable for whatever ills the Israeli government are carrying out. Oh and add this one into the mix, the time immemorial misnomer which always presents as a recurring theme, "all Jews are rich and they control the world's financial systems" a theme personified in so called artworks.

I continue to view our Jewish community as one of the most vulnerable and at times I feel they don't have the cordon of protection thrown around them that other demographics enjoy.

Good, thoughtful post, Terribull.
