If I had a suspicious mind I could almost think you’ve been reading Mao’s little red book.
A drop in the ocean in the great schemes of things....but replicated by how many more
I'm obviously naive but I'm not sure what exactly the threat is that China poses to us. Russia has always seemed an enemy, almost cartoon bad guys but what about the Chinese? What should we be afraid of? They seem to have investment in all our infrastructure but so what? What might they do and why? We are a huge market for them. If they damage our economy they will also lose out as we'll not be able to buy so many of their goods.
I know I must be missing something but what?

Control. That’s what China wants. How many of us would like to live under the Chinese political system, I wonder?
What Monica says I have seen myself in W Africa. The Chinese take on a project and they ‘own’ it, lock, stock and barrel. They employ Chinese workers, import everything needed for the job and also what they need to live such as housing, possessions, even their food. They don’t use any local labour such as cleaners or drivers and thus put virtually nothing into the local economy. They’re not there from the goodness of their hearts.
I think Serbia have given up on joining the EU.
China have well and truly got a grip on the country.
Mining!!!
The environmental impact is horrendous 😥

Too many takeaways?
Who knows what is in them!
China holds stakes in 30 European sea ports
They own Rotterdam, the largest sea port outside Asia.
They own Piraeus a major maritime hub.
Imagine what they could do with these assets if they decided they wanted to change the whole demographics of shipping.
China holds a significant stake, although not a majority, in our new nuclear power plant at Hinkley Point.
In addition, the Chinese have stakes in UK Power Networks, gas, water companies, Heathrow Airport, logistics and distribution sites throughout the UK.
So China already does all this and owns all these resources but are we suffering as a result? I've not read Mao's little red book nor do we ever have Chinese takeaways but neither do I unquestioningly accept that China is somehow deadly enemy.

Softly, softly catchee monkey.
Softly and with cash. Kenya is on the brink of throwing in its lot with China.
Perhaps the Chinese will be nice to us when they take over. I don’t think that they will let the foreign devils into any positions of power though.
Do I sound paranoid?
Did Mao cut off water supplies to HK during the water shortage of 1963? Well yes. It had to be imported by ship.
Luckily the riots of 1967 calmed down and although my father’s name was supposedly on a ‘naughty list’ somewhere in China the troubles stopped and we got on with life.
Go and ask the Hong Kong Chinese if they like the system they have now. Many who could leave did when they recognised the writing on the wall. The favoured destinations were Australia, Canada and the U.K.
The Chinese who rule aren’t very nice to those they control especially those who have the temerity to question.
Geography very different between Hong Kong and Europe. Hong Kong had been colonised. Not surprising China wanted it back.
Aveline, nevertheless, asks a valid question in the current climate. They have every chance to get in with whatever it is - and they are pretty successful - whilst Trump, who one minute declare them the Biggst Problem of all, goes gung ho into a war that can only really benefit China since its not involved, is sitting pretty watching and continuing.

The difference is you cant question authority, you do as you're told, all companies follow Communist Party rules and targets. The police have complete control of the population, maybe some on GN would enjoy that, Im sure most wouldn't. Just imagine criticizing a Chinese Starmer it would get you jailed.

They were going to get it back anyway. In the end it went according to plan.
Then the new government didn’t keep their promises.

The Chinese leased Hong Kong to Britain for 99 years .in 1898. China did not want it back, because it always knew it would be coming back anyway.
So is the fear of a takeover by China? That seems pretty unlikely. It's in their interest for our economy to thrive as we buy so much from them. A stable thriving economy sounds good enough to me. I'd be unlikely to object to any government who provided that.
China will suck the money out of every country, we all condemn billionaires getting ever richer, that is exactly what China is doing, making us dependant on them, their system.
China has 450 billionaires, all under the control of the state aiming for one purpose, aiming for global economic domination. They are giving us what we want cheap goods cheap credit, exploiting our democratic weakness. They large army they maintain is used for internal control, Chinese workers go where and do what they are told . China is not interested in military expansion, they can achieve global domination by economic pressure and were letting them do just that.
You seem to have a pretty good handle on the way they operate David
If this article wasn’t so serious it could almost be laughable 🤦🏼♀️
China is very worried about its falling birth rate
This from a country that forced women to have late term abortions under the one child policy 😥

LOL. China will just order women to have more children, restrict contraception, because it's in the national interest
They now have a great gender imbalance, because of the one child policy. Most people wanted sons.
Is ,t China involved in Englands new nuclear power plant?
They are also building a new massive embassy ….
This makes me very irritated as a recent transaction between the Scottish government and hina has been vetoed…apparently Whats good for the goose ISNT good for the gander in our case.
I,ll watch as that contract is snatched by Westminster and appears with the promised 1500 jobs in England .
It’s what usually happens when the veto something !
Power devolved is power retained …and sadly not in a good way .

Petra why is the “UK” backing Israel and Trump?
Israel is bombing several countries causing death and destruction in tow with the orange one and his illegal no plan war in Iran.
Pick your side …why are some people disposable in the scheme of things and others are allowed to get off Scot free from these atrocities ?

The above article claims the government are tracking women’s fertility cycle.

The fact that they could impose the one child policy itself ought to give @ Aveline and any others who view China’s presence and influence in the world as benevolent, pause for thought.
