Uk defences

The Uk navy is the most depleted since 1642.

If the US decides to stop funding NATO, where does that leave the Uk and Europe?
Especially against a possible landgrab by Russia, in the Eastern Countries of Europe. At some, maybe not too distant point.

And this assumes that the US doesnt help Russia.

We could be left in a quite precarious position.

Hopefully and prayerfully, things wont get to the worst case scenarios.

Nanna8, your post was not clear that you were referring to governments and sounded very much like you were referring to military personnel, so to tell those to 'wind their necks in' is unnecessarily aggressive. You are, of course, entitled to comment on any threads, but most do so with a modicum of knowledge. Maybe best to stay away from threads where you only have opinion, not fact, to back you up

Macaydia Sun 29-Mar-26 09:20:51

The three oxen might be named Greeny, Canda and Cubey.

I don't know the name of the attacking lion. Maybe "Jaydee?"

(A baboon would be a compliment. I think you meant baffoon)

Opinions are very welcome here as long as one states it is their opinion or IMO to be clear to others. This forum is practically based on opinions. Thats what flows conversations. Debates are more factual. I like to enjoy the friendly opinions without negative emotions flying. ❤️ Gransnet and the variety of members.

Probably I have a lot of knowledge about the uk. more than most because of various close connections and contacts which I would not divulge here. Anyway, you are free to think what you like, go for it. I agree that I should not have said ‘ wind your neck in’ but I was angry that people were thinking I lacked respect for those in the armed forces because that is very wide off the mark in my case.

nanna8 Sun 29-Mar-26 09:32:08

Re reading but I didn’t say wind your necks in but to pull your heads in. There is a difference - here at least. The neck comment is a tad more rude.

Doodledog Sun 29-Mar-26 10:03:14

There is a massive difference between having 'close connections' with a country and actually living there. I have a close family member living in Australia, but I wouldn't dream of repeating his opinions of the country or the government as they are simply that - his opinions. I don't assume that I have more knowledge than most about Australia because of that connection either.

All posters are entitled to their own opinion about anything, but constant denigration of the UK from someone who has not lived here for decades is wearing, and of course Brits are going to react against that. One minute we are being accused of cowardice and the next criticised for standing up for our country (the one we live in).

nanna8 Sun 29-Mar-26 10:11:57

I have never said I don’t like the UK because that would not be true. I have criticised the government on many occasions, however. Some read into things things that are not there. I just give up. Think whatever you want, I cannot be bothered anymore.

I thought opinions from anyone outside the UK were welcome on GN? Looks very unfriendly to me.
I see exactly what nanna8 meant and it wasn’t disrespectful to our RN just drawing attention to our embarrassing lack of ready to go warships. So there definitely was gaslighting going on.
This forum, like all forums runs on opinions btw.

Oreo Sun 29-Mar-26 10:13:39

You stay nanna8 but probably not worth it on this thread I agree. For me too.

I will come back another day because I have a bad view of things just now having received some very bad news so I am stressed. Sorry if I am coming over as rude Doodledog

Well before that they defeated the Spanish Armada but these days they would probably have just hidden away and admitted defeat.

Extraordinary what can be read into a message that offers an egregious insult to the UK and its military.

I'm sorry to hear that nanna8 has been badly stressed by some bad news but it hardly excuses insulting posts.

Yes, I know 'pull your head in' is a well-known Aussie saying and I've heard it used on many occasions, nanna8.
🙂 It's not unknown for me to use it on rare occasions (but only to Him Indoors).
It's not rude.

Opinions and views from Gransnetters overseas are welcome even though I know some think they are not welcome whilst at the same time posting their own views on the Governments of other countries. The irony is not lost on many of us.

However, I must say that our Armed Forces are well-trained, courageous and not in the least cowardly; they have, however, been cut back and back until we do worry about their effectiveness when something like this happens.

nanna8 didn't say that, so that remark was unnecessarily aggressive Grandbatty.

Telling someone to stay off threads is against the guidelines.

Most posts are just that - opinions, only sometimes are they backed by facts.

I don't want to see any GNs leaving because of an ill thought out post especially if stressed at the time.
Sorry you have had bad news nanna8.

From fancythat
I dont know those emoijs Allira.
Doesnt help I cant see them properly at all, either!
They all look the same to me[andI dont know what they mean either], no matter how hard I squint."

Does your browser have + and - signs somewhere at the top of the page, fancythat ? If you click on the + you can zoom in to the page (or out with the - ) Very useful for those of us without 20/20 vision.

fancythat Sun 29-Mar-26 17:45:41

I dont even know what my browser is!

I am that computer illiterate.

I am on a very old computer.
It normally doesnt have things that say phones have.

Thanks for trying.

My PC is so low it would drive me crackers to use it much.

The emojis apparently look different on different devices. Some came out as ??? on my DGD's phone when I sent her a message.

🤔 means hmmm?
🤫 means hush - careless talk can be dangerous.

fancythat Sun 29-Mar-26 18:12:19

My computer takes 15 mins to start up!
But other than that, I much prefer it to typing on a phone.

For "browser" think "screen that you see and control the internet on" that is, "browse around the net on".

Look at the top edge of it in case it is zoom-in-able and you have never noticed. Even an old computer may have + and - to zoom in and out on.

Doodledog Sun 29-Mar-26 20:21:48

On Safari (the default browser with Apple) you can find it under View at the top of the screen. Just move the curser to the top to reveal the taskbar and it's there.
