Trump is in a whole different league from Blair, but he did invade Iraq because he thought he was right ... and went against advice. And he turned out to be wrong.
That is why our political leaders need to be open to advice and evidence.
The succession of ayatollahs do what they do because they know they are right. It is not enough.
No political leader can be allowed to give free rein to what they believe to be right.
There must be checks and balances.
I reckon Trump attacked Iran because he wanted to & he thought it would make him look good with the MAGA crew - then because it was him who'd decided to do it, it must be right.
That's a lot different to someone knowledgeable & with their country's interests in mind being too sure that they've made the right decision because they've begun to feel infallible (Maggie Thatcher got like this towards the end too).
