When is a royal tour, not a royal tour?

Silly me! It's when you visit a children's hospital and wave at the crowds. As well as visiting a homeless refuge and a War Memorial. Not forgetting attending an Invictus event and the last post ceremony on Anzac Day.
Plus the inevitable money making events which are now allowed.
Harry and Meghan's visit to Australia, (in very high shoes and expensive outfits).
Forgive my confusion. Am I missing the point? šŸ˜†

Syracute 14.55 : 'Harry constantly bemoans his childhood and criticises his family Lemsip so when he says he wants his children to have a better childhood than the one he had, it's obvious that it's yet more criticism. If there's any biased perception it's predicated on Harry's behaviour".

That's your view and that's fine. I don't think H 'constantly' bemoans his childhood- we can agree to differ. I didn't perceive that comment to be a direct criticism of his father- more a case about his awful childhood experiences. He didn't mention his father specifically after all. We perceive that differently- and that's fine we can agree to differ.

Allira

Well, I suppose they must have some fans, even on Gransnet!
Do you read the Daily Mail, then Syracute, as you seem to know the content?

I don't.

I think the discussion points are valid ones.

Well, I read it on occasion, as how else would I know where all these strange comments on M and H come from ? You only see these sort of comments on GN when DM writes about them . They do that because they get the clicks every time . What they write are far from facts yet it gets sourced here as if it is. No other paper was writing about them . I don’t consider mean gossip a discussion.

Rosie51 Sat 18-Apr-26 18:09:48

No I don't read it either Allira, I wouldn't give them the clicks and internet traffic. It's strange how its strongest critics are amongst those giving it traffic.

No other paper was writing about them A quick google showed up links to the Telegraph, Times, Independent, and Guardian having articles about the trip, so not just the Mail. I haven't read any of them.

LemonJam Sat 18-Apr-26 18:14:17

I think many news papers have posted articles about H and M's Australia visit- some newspapers are fair and balanced in coverage and others, like the DM are wholly negative, critical and biased. Many posts on this thread amplify the gossip and criticism.

I dont have any great love or positive feelings about M and H and neither any great negative feelings or hate. But it is extraordinary how, in this week international human rights are being trampled by blood thirsty world leading men people get so incensed about M and H and for the life of me I cant understand why M remains one of the most disliked people in the world. Its disproportionate.

H and M really are rather a bland couple, on tour in Australia yet send certain tabloid newspapers into a tailspin with attacking, nasty comments. DM seemingly posting a story every 10 minutes criticising everything from M's outfits to the guest list for that retreat or whatever it was.

M is not entirely wrong when she said she's the most trolled woman/person in the entire world- who is trolled more in reality? You'd think she was a mass murderer, paedophile, waging illegal wars or something.

MartavTaurus Sat 18-Apr-26 18:17:19

šŸ‘
And the BBC from where I took my inspiration for a thread.
In fact I'm abroad at the moment where foreign newspapers are finding the purpose of the visit rather confusing too!

Un sĆ©jour qui ne tient ni du Ā«royal tourĀ», ni du voyage d’affaires et qui a donc empruntĆ© les codes des deux.

MartavTaurus Sat 18-Apr-26 18:17:53

Exactly Lemon jam !
I have lived in 3 different countries aside from my birth country and I know how hard it can be to not only assimilate but to deal with the prejudices people have about me as a person just because of where I was born !
It’s one thing to assimilate and it’s another to have to rearrange your personality to suit how others think you should act,
It’s a difficult balance !
I think H and M have tried to keep mostly a low profile but are they supposed to live under a rock ?
People on this thread apparently think so !

Rosie51 Sat 18-Apr-26 18:52:37

M is not entirely wrong when she said she's the most trolled woman/person in the entire world- who is trolled more in reality? You'd think she was a mass murderer, paedophile, waging illegal wars or something. Are you completely unaware of the horrendous rape and death threats J K Rowling gets from TRAs? Have you not seen the signs at marches and demonstrations with threats to her? I don't agree with trolling anyone, but I've never seen anyone photographed with a placard calling for Meghan's death.

Just as an aside can anyone explain why virtually every media source refers to Catherine as Kate despite her stated preference for Catherine, and yet all spell Meghan's name correctly never once forgetting the 'h'?

Anniebach Sat 18-Apr-26 19:57:10

They are not expected to live under a rock Syracute ,or expected to defy the late Queen

Syracute Sat 18-Apr-26 20:00:04

Oh for heavens sake ! Annie Bach…. They are their own
To decide what they choose to do with their lives and they definitely made the right choice.

Harry constantly bemoans his childhood and criticises his family Lemsip so when he says he wants his children to have a better childhood than the one he had, it's obvious that it's yet more criticism.

If there's any biased perception it's predicated on Harry's behaviour.

I have not commented on this, you have the wrong person

That is what they wanted. No publicity.

I think of all those people who tried to help Meghan with the new Royal rƓle she was so keen to embrace.
Many were left devastated or without jobs as they were forced out, not just one isolated incident.

šŸ˜‚ why, when you profess to despise it?

Allira Sat 18-Apr-26 20:20:07

No other paper was writing about them

Only
The Guardian
The Times
The Telegraph
The Mirror
The Daily Express
Town and Country Magazine
Hello
Harper's Bazaar
To name a few
Plus
BBC
ITV
ABC
CNN
9News
etc etc.

Rosie51 Sat 18-Apr-26 20:54:56

A very comprehensive list Allira! Obviously Syracute only reads the Daily Mail as that's where she sees all the coverage that gets repeated on GN.

RosiesMawagain Sat 18-Apr-26 20:56:49

You’ve missed
Horse&Hound
Anglers weekly
Peoples Friend
Liverpool News Chronicle
Aberdeen Press &Journal
and I’m sure lots more. grin

I thought they wanted to live a private life?
Meghan is promoting clothes on this tour it seems.

ixion Sat 18-Apr-26 21:38:35

So exactly how does this work?
She needs to be seen showcasing outfits so that people will buy them??

Then she selects venues that will attract the greatest publicity - sick children, women's refuges, judging Masterchef?šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

This is the charitable bit of the tour?

To keep informed of how people THINK ( or don’t think ) that are not like me. It’s the most read newspaper in the UK !!
I read a LOT of news from different sources.
How else would I know of where this irrational hatred comes from ?

Nothing to do with heaven, the late Queen gave them titles, duke and duchess, they left the family because they couldn’t use. The titles to make money for their own pockets. You applaud , I criticise

I think much is valid criticism.

As most on here say they do not read the Daily Mail, perhaps they are watching impartial news reports, using their brains then making their own judgements based on actual facts.

hatred is a very strong word and you are the only one to use it. Valid criticisms do not mean irrational hatred, they are just valid criticisms.

No I am not unaware. JK R is one of the most heavily trolled public figures on social media due to her vocal views on gender identity and transgender rights. While she has experienced significant trolling other figures are cited as receiving extreme, higher levels of on line and media vitriol.

Elon Musk due to his ownership of X and political stances and Meghan, , and I do agree more than any other woman in the world, frequently subjected to intense , sustained on line and media harassment and trolling in the UK and international spheres.

Are you able to link to sources? Do you have evidence of death or rape threats to Meghan? Criticism of Meghan isn't in the same category as death and rape threats. Ever seen an X post that called for Meghan to be raped by a barb wire wrapped baseball bat? Ever seen a post that wanted Meghan to die in a 'grease fire'? You almost seem to think the abuse of J K Rowling is somehow excusable if not justified.
I think you'd find if you researched that J K Rowling doesn't post about transgender rights, only about women's (the sex class that is female) rights to dignity, privacy and fair competition. She respects transgender rights to live their lives as they wish but expects that women's rights and protections, especially to single sex spaces should also be respected and protected. Do you have a problem with any of that?

Rosie51 Sun 19-Apr-26 01:33:22

And of course she (KJR) objects to the use of 'menstruators' etc to describe women by those that would deny women their own descriptors because 'special men' feel challenged by normal sex based language. I am ever grateful that she appears to be 'un-cancelerable' , too many good women have been.
