Another assassination attempt on Donald Trump

Now I am really worried about the King and Queen’s visit tomorrow.

Anybody who thinks this is a stunt needs to give their head a wobble!

It clearly isn’t. There is footage of the attacker pinned down on the ground and I saw people talking about how they were caught up in it.

Maremia Sun 26-Apr-26 12:17:34

Something has happened. Not sure whether it was genuine or 'performance'.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 26-Apr-26 12:19:29

The world has learned the hard way, that very little that Trump has got involved in is entirely honest, competent or legal.

No one should be surprised that anything and everything to do with Trump is now questioned, disbelieved and unsupported.

Some are saying it was a fake attempt to distract from trump’s poor polling figures, the Epstein files and the Iran war. Whatever, they missed again.

I’m afraid this was my first thought, but I think that’s because I’m so very cynical about what’s happening in the US these days.

Well, I’ve wobbled my head, and still not entirely sure it’s completely pukka, ie not a set- up.

LemonJam Sun 26-Apr-26 12:32:00

I'm not sure whether this was genuine or performative.

What is clear is that a random hotel guest, without an invitation to the event, armed with knives and guns, was able to get through venue security, as demonstrated by CCTV footage, get himself into a position close enough to fire shots and he did sho0t one Secret Service officer, at very close range.

The shooters name was released quickly, named by Trump on Truth Social, before the police had even identified the alleged gun man. At the very least that raises security and Whitehouse communications concerns.

Wobble away. Why did the security people get Vance first?

LemonJam Sun 26-Apr-26 12:50:37

Trump on truthsocial.com just minutes after being escorted out: "Law Enforcement has requested that we leave the premises, consistent with protocol, which we will do, immediately. I will be giving a press conference in 30 minutes from the White House Press Briefing Room. The First Lady, plus the Vice President, and all Cabinet members, are in perfect condition. We will be speaking to you in a half an hour. I have spoken with all the representatives in charge of the event, and we will be rescheduling within 30 days. President DONALD J. TRUMP".

Also, never one to miss an opportunity- at said briefing in the press room not long after the event, Trump described the Washington Hilton as “not a particularly secure building” and argued for the merits of the construction of a ballroom at the White House. “This is why we have to have all of the attributes of what we’re planning at the White House. It’s actually a larger room, and it’s much more secure.”

No one should be surprised that when Trump is mentioned his opponents behave in a way that leaves others backing away quickly.

I agree. It a serious and disgusting attempt on the life of the President. Some of these comments are totally unacceptable. I don’t care who the President is or whether or not you agree with his policies.

Aely Sun 26-Apr-26 13:14:42

I hardly dare comment on this. It might get me banned from Gransnet (not to mention, the United States!).

Trump has criticised Starmer for not supporting his illegal war, ridiculed our armed forces, of which the King is the head, made damaging threats to the NATO alliance, threatens to weaken our sovereignty of the Falkland Islands and will now, no doubt, capitalise on surviving another assassination attempt.

Good Luck your Majesty.

Er......maybe that should be "assassination"? Quote marks, methinks.

Given Mister Trump's track record there's a lot of cynical disbelief about this incident.

AGAA4 Sun 26-Apr-26 13:18:37

It seems odd to me that this man wielding a gun and shooting someone very near to where the president and his men were wasn't shot. He was a danger to all around and yet he was 'brought down'.
They are not usually known for restraint.
It makes me wonder if this was real. Trump is so false. Afterwards he said he fought the security services to stay where he was and not be rushed away. The man standing on his left smirked when he said this.

Which comments are disgusting please?

Iam64 Sun 26-Apr-26 13:26:34

It’s no surprise that many are sceptical about anything coming out of this white house

How can anyone get weapons into a venue due to host the President? It’s ludicrous

And yes I hope the King and Camilla have better protection

Trump exists in a miasma of lies and diversionary tactics so it is anybody's guess whether this is real or yet another stunt.

I put it in the same box as the missing airman.

BlueBelle Sun 26-Apr-26 13:31:59

Pretty sure that was a stunt and not a real attempt, well of course the man would be on the floor etc etc if it was a stunt it would be made to look as real as possible
If it wasn’t a stunt the police must be very inefficient as there was enough of them there for someone with a gun to
get past !!!!

Many Americans believe the ear shooting with the silly bandage wasn’t the real deal either

I think they might ( just might) be referring to the comments allude to the fact that Trump tells lies.
Just a thought 🤨

AGAA4 Sun 26-Apr-26 13:37:51

There are discussions about the King's safety now. Some think the trip should be postponed. If this attempt on Trump's life was real then the security is not fit for purpose and I would fear for Charles and Camilla.
I know there will be people from our own security service there but if the US are unable to protect their own president they will have little help.

Magenta8 Sun 26-Apr-26 13:41:29

During a statement after the event, Trump was asked why he thinks he was targeted for another assassination attempt and he said, in his usual garbled incoherent way, that it is because he is so influential and he has stopped America being a laughing stock. "People don't like it, they prefer people who are ineffectual and do nothing."

He compared himself to Abraham Lincoln, somewhere in his word salad and implied that the assassination attempts are a compliment to his effectiveness as POTUS.

It is obvious that, even now, Trump does not realise how unpopular he is and how unpopular he has made the USA. If the USA was a "laughing stock" before Trump became POTUS, it certainly isn't now as Trump continues to insult other nations and leaders and his policies descend further and further into chaos.

Maremia Sun 26-Apr-26 14:02:51

This proves that he really needs that gilded ballroom. Doesn't it?

petra Sun 26-Apr-26 14:07:26

he has stopped America being a laughing stock
He’s the gift that keeps on giving in the laughter stakes.

Good point. This heavily fortified ballroom is absolutely necessary now after another attempt on his life.
Many of us can see what he's up to.
