Farage fails to report 5 million gift!

(252 Posts)

Farage/Reform got £12.000.000 before the 2024 election.

BUT

Breaking news over the last 10 hours,

Farage was given £5.000.000 by the Thai-based billionaire Christopher Harborne shortly before announcing he would stand in the 2024 general election, "for security"

Farage did not declare this, breaking parliamentary rules.

He should be held accountable by parliament and appear before a standards committee. Reform UK claim he did not break parliamentary rules. Oh really?

No one, No politician should be allowed to accept gifts without declaring them,

But £5.000.000!

Report from Reuters.

Attempting to take the focus off Starmer and his old has beens Gordon Brown and Harriet Harman? 😉

It’s probably right twaddle, they would vote in the wonky donkey if it was wearing a Reform sticker, but nonetheless being returned as an MP but with a severely dented reputation won’t help him. If they prove he has used some of that money to fund his partner’s constituency house, worse.

I'm sure there are a few wonky donkeys on the beach. Hopefully, the pressure will be maintained. It's naturally a Conservative area, so it needs the Conservative Party to get its act together or for a charismatic independent to be found.

Er? This thread is about Farage and his £5 million.

This money was a gift from a friend for his security. It was not cash, but money to pay a security company. He was not a member of parliament at the time he , was an MEP.

There is nobody on here questioning members of the Labour Party who have security

He wasn’t an MEP at the time. all MPs are entitled to state funded security.

All MPs can apply for security if they feel it is necessary, a risk assessment is carried out and appropriate security is provided if necessary. He was offered security by The Home Office in June 2024 so he wasn’t refused it as he claims, he must have applied for it yet he received the gift allegedly for security early in 2024. There are a lot of holes in Farage’s story.

Well let's hope there is a thorough investigation into this . Not sure if that will make any difference to his supporters.

I fear it won't. Something horrible has happened to the country's values - maybe that's why so many of us are against all this hysterical flag waving. The country which those flags represent to the people hanging them just isn't the same country I regard as mine.

I agree sad

I would have thought people had enough to worry about with the Labour party on its knees than spending time even discussing Farage.

No, Primrose53, I always keep my eye on the prize. Knowing your enemies is half the battle won.

Labour Party is far from being on its knees.
It is still in charge of the King's Speech which has a proposed bill about this exact issue, cryptocurrency donations.

Farage and Reform are the real danger to this country so of course it will be discussed.

ronib Mon 11-May-26 07:58:48

In what way exactly are Farage and Reform more of a danger to this country than previous governments? AGAA4. Or is this yet another meaningless sound bite?

For all the reasons that have already been discussed. Farage being backed by the crypto king Harborne for one.
Harborne has given Farage millions of pounds firstly for Brexit and now to advertise Reform. He wants the UK to be a crypto hub.
There are a lot of other reasons like getting rid of the NHS.
You can look it up for yourself but if you are a reform voter you won't.

ronib Mon 11-May-26 08:24:05

I am a non voter atm however, the NHS needs serious reform and Labour and the Conservatives have not filled me with any confidence there.
For all I know, a crypto hub might be the saving of the UK?? Exactly what is a crypto hub and why don’t we need it? AGAA4

ronib Mon 11-May-26 08:29:14

Starmer wants to stop political donations being given in cryptocurrency. But of course, Labour donors will continue to donate in pounds presumably? So that isn’t corrupt?

ronib Mon 11-May-26 08:34:07

Labour - £248 million received so far in political donations according to AI. Why? What is it doing with this money?

Received since when?

Since it was started in the 19th century?

Since last week?

Context is always useful.

Can you tell me what you can buy with crypto currency?

Will Morrisons accept it in payment for your groceries? Can you pay your electricity bill with it? Your hairdresser? Can you purchase anything with it?

As far as I can make out crypto is invaluable for money laundering and for making a few individuals wealthy. Strangely, it’s actually valued in legal currency for initial purchase. I wonder where that money goes…

Donation Watch has a comprehensive list of donors to Labour since 2010. Interesting bunch of donors including Quadrature £4million in 2024.

ronib Mon 11-May-26 08:59:56

Quadrature - a hedge fund registered in the Cayman Islands with not really Labour approved products - fossil fuels, arms manufacturing . Still £4 million! I guess Labour isn’t that fussy.

If you’d added 2010 to your original post it would have saved some time…

Now let’s know how much the tory party and the various manifestations of the Farage party has received in the same 16 year period. Then we can discuss it in even more context.

Maremia Mon 11-May-26 09:04:14

Fascinating, now back to the bribes from foreign interests that Farage tries to hide.

I’m not sure you have grasped the point ronib, this thread is specifically about undeclared donations to politicians, which breach parliamentary rules?

What would we do without Casdon to tell us what we are supposed to be talking about. No deviations.

But threads wander and wandering is always approved of...Anyone who objects to it points it out is accused of being thread police.

ronib does like to go off piste...

eazybee Mon 11-May-26 10:02:16

But the thread is about donations, declared or otherwise.

Hesitation doesn't feature very much, but repetition does.
