Trump has to come further across the table than he has, is necessary, and will probably do the job. but oh no he has to save face having wrecked lives and played with world powers

He started it.

I also love the way Netanyahu appears to have backed off!

Also, I cannot help thinking somewhere people are getting very rich via this war!

Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren has produced solid evidence to prove that insider trading has made millions of dollars for Republicans with prior inside knowledge of the content of Trump's posts on the subject of progress in negotiations with Iran and the effect on the price of oil.

She openly challenged Peter Hegseth on the subject but he just blustered, spouted platitudes and avoided answering the question posed.

What a slime ball he is.

Iran probably believes that they can't trust Trump's vessels to just peacefully "guide" ships through, out of and away from the Strait without firing a few rounds in passing.

Would you trust him? I wouldn't. He started attacking in the middle of negotiations, without a declaration of war, or even a discussion and agreement in Congress. He wouldn't hesitate to repeat that.

20,000 seafarers have been stranded on 2000 ships since February. They are running out of food and stress levels are high.
I think Trump should do the right thing for everyone and leave.
Iran say they have won the war and the US certainly can't say that because of the huge mess they have made.
Trump's arrogance and conceit are keeping this war going as they have reached stalemate. If he can't negotiate a peace plan that is acceptable to Iran he needs to go.

Journalists have managed to speak to an Iranian couple who say the regime is far worse than before and they are out for vengeance ( aided and abetted by China and Russia no doubt).
If Trump tries this plan to escort vessels lives will be lost. US lives lost will cost him dearly.

The entire mess is horrifying. Greed and power and land grabbing dictators will cost people their lives, ruin families, affect world’s finances, displace yet more people and yet some still support Trump.

Whilst in the background people gaining $$$$$$$ from this illegal and utterly pointless war.

I don’t support the Iranian regime, but I simply cannot blame them for this situation or for any of their future actions.

What was America thinking?

Harbourne, who gave Farage the 5 million, is one: his jet fuel venture makes millions from Pentagon contracts and he holds a stake in QinetiQ, the privatised weapons-research arm of the UK’s armed forces. He'll be one of many.

Haha so sorry Oreo first line should read “who” not “you”! Of course you didn’t start this war! If you had though, I’d wager you’d have had an exit plan and dealt with things differently!

Oreo I’m a little surprised that you don’t appear to recall you started this war and caused this big fat mess?

I despise and do not support the Iranian regime, but with his ill thought actions, with no exit plan, Trump has caused a situation which hasn’t helped the Iranian citizens, and has dragged the rest of the world.

The person that has “blustered” the most, almost on a daily basis is Trump and very publicly too.

Of course, something has to happen, and as quickly as possible, to re-open the straits, but I’m not sure Trump is approaching this the best way. He caused this!

My understanding is that the Iranians have already submitted at least two “plans” or “demands” or whatever you’d like to call them, to Trump for his consideration, Trump has dismissed both. Surely he should used these as negotiation points? But then again, it seems neither Trump nor Vance can negotiate.

Not one poster has stated they are “happy to see the Iranians doing what they like to any shipping?”

Oreo Mon 04-May-26 09:28:27

The situation as it is has to be dealt with.It is what it is.

petra Mon 04-May-26 09:23:39

Oreo

Or are posters happy to see the Iranians doing what they like to any shipping?
The stalemate has to be broken.

If the Orange turd hadn’t started ( with the help of Israel) this horror there would be no need for escorts through the strait.

They can both bluster, Trump and the Iranians, but they can hardly hope to attack US ships and troops and get away with it.
And someone does have to rescue the very many ships stranded there.

Smileless2012 Mon 04-May-26 09:12:19

When it comes to 'bluster', Trump and Iran are well matched.

Is anyone likely to want to be escorted by an American vessel as they're more than likely going to come under fire?

Chocolatelovinggran Mon 04-May-26 09:11:29

Mr Trump has started something, against advice, and has no idea of how to extricate himself, and his country, from this situation.
He is, now, in the military version, possibly, of what my granny would have called having to "throw good money after bad".
An escalation in hostilities, leading to a potential loss of US servicemen and women might, hopefully, encourage the Republicans to take action and vote to stop and return the personnel.
Of course, others may pay for this in expensive shipping costs, but as long as Mr Trump can paint it as a " victory", he'll be fine with that.

foxie48 Mon 04-May-26 09:09:44

I rather think of Trump as the "blusterer" who is regretting getting into this war, but I really feel for these sailors caught up in a situation which is nothing to do with them, so I hope they manage to get the ships moving.

BlueBelle Mon 04-May-26 09:05:41

And trump isn’t bluster 🤣🤣🤣

Oreo Mon 04-May-26 09:02:15

They won’t be on the ground, it’s all happening at sea, and yes someone will have to help the stranded ships so if the US will do it so much the better.
Iran is all bluster usually but if they do attack US military ships then they’ll very soon regret it.

Headlines in I player

"Iran threatens to attack US forces in Strait of Hormuz as Trump says military will help stranded ships"

"Iran threatens to attack US forces if they enter the Strait of Hormuz, after Donald Trump said the US would help stranded ships out of key waterway

Trump says the US military will start guiding stranded ships out of the strait from *Monday morning, Middle East time

Ie, today, now. Iran of course threatens to act against it.

"Some 20,000 seafarers and 2,000 ships have been unable to leave the strait since the US-Iran war began, the head of the International Maritime Organization said last week
But the Iranian military insists it controls the strait, and that it will attack "any foreign armed force" that tries to enter - "especially the aggressive US army"

Its on the Live Feed
www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c1wz2ld4535t

At the same time Trump insists "talks are going well".

But surely this means - US troops/ships on the ground which wont go down well at home? And possible escalation - again.
and knock on effects on our domestic front.
