Anti-semitism in the Media

I can’t copy the drawings published as they would be immediately deleted and for very good reason.

The Telegraph, Sun, Daily Mail and Times has printed exaggerated drawings of Polenski, depicted in the very worst drawings of a Jewish man.

How are they getting away with it?

And then ask ourselves about the causes and encouragement of anti-semitism.

I've watched the police cams, I don't think kicking in the head was necessary. Tasering is surely enough.

He'd been tasered and still wouldn't release the knife despite repeated orders to do so. He was still fighting with the officer on the ground grappling with him. He had a rucksack on his back that could have contained explosives, that's certainly not unknown. Important context.

I've not seen the images, but I think cariactures of anyone's race or religion are an insult. Even the mildly suggestive ones. I find them all offensive.

I'll go further, all caricatures are offensive since they play up on individual physical features even if those features aren't related to race or religion.

Iam64 Wed 06-May-26 13:11:24

These two police officers were attempting to remove a knife the man had already used to stab two people. Tasering didn’t stop him continuing to fight and refuse to give up his weapon. He had a back pack, how were the officers to know explosives weren’t in there.
These officers ran to danger to serve and protect. I thank them for their bravery. I’m not surprised a level of force was used and needed

Wyllow3 Wed 06-May-26 13:29:56

Taser him again, it can totally disable rapidly.

Pin down his arms to the ground.

Kicking in the head was not necessary for experienced policemen and women. It could have made him do something even more untoward if brain damaged.

Btw, do watch the Zak Polanski video I posted upthread. His words are wise and careful

I cant help thinking that the caricatures come just the day before the election.

But what a shocking way to discredit him by publishing anti semitic memes.

I still cant believe it, you know. so very, very dreadful.

I agree, Wyllow3, he says he is concerned for ALL communities.

Allsorts Wed 06-May-26 13:34:08

I have not seen the drawings and don't want to, sound horrendous and should not be shown.
Polenski’s comments and views were vile and siding with the man arrested instead of the police disgusting. How do you suggest police could contain such a person . Our police many very young, are out there trying to protect us the public, they can't perform miracles and have to make huge life and death decisions in seconds. Show me how you could arrest and immobilise such a man ! I am sure the police would love to know. People that agree with Polenski obviously will never help as they could handle it better.

Just to be clear, I am agreeing with his views on safety in communities discussed in the video.
Not his views on the police incident or arrests.

AGAA4 Wed 06-May-26 13:51:15

I've always dislike caricatures as they are used to be disrespectful and this one to incite antisemitism. I don't like Polenski since he said on Laura Kuenssberg programme that those shouting 'globalise the intifada' were fine to do so.

He had already been tasered.

Presumably the Met will be conducting an investigation. I wish the media would stop publishing these videos without context because it's so easy to come to the wrong conclusion and before anybody knows it, the videos and accusations have gone half way round the world.

What he says here is sensible and accurate, in my humble opinion.

Cossy Wed 06-May-26 14:12:48

Polanski, whether you like him or not, did not side with the criminal stabbing people, he re-tweeted (wrongly) something someone else posted criticising the police for allegedly kicking him in the head, when he was semi incapacitated, tasered, lying on the floor.

I do support the police in general, but like our Armed Forces, they are highly trained to deal with and defuse situations such as the one they were dealing with, they are not brave, they are doing the job they’ve been trained to do and are paid to do.

I’m not downplaying the danger our police and armed forces face, sometimes on a daily basis, but they know what they’re facing and what they signed up for.

If they overstep or don’t do things within their given procedures they do need to be called out.

Polanski handled it in the wrong way.

Tasering for a second time can induce cardiac arrest or respiratory failure, which you’d also no doubt object to.
As for ‘pin his arms down’ what do you think the officer grappling him on the ground was trying to do? One of those arms was holding a knife that had already been used to stab two Jews. Still what does it matter when police get injured, amply demonstrated by the pathetic charge against that animal that hit the policewoman with a sledgehammer?

... to stab two Jews and a Muslim

Boz Wed 06-May-26 14:30:13

Polanski's problem is that he has a face that is easily dislikeable.

In the Times in Sunday, Jeremy Clarkson (yes, I know) said he had no time for the Greens as he didn't like Polanski's face.

Cruel and dismissive but the remark resonates.

LizzieDrip Wed 06-May-26 14:44:46

Regardless of Polanski’s views, the clearly antisemitic depiction of him in these ‘cartoons’ is abhorrent.

Stereotypical mocking of race, religion, ethnicity, gender and disability should always be called out, regardless of whether we agree with the person’s political views or not. I don’t agree with Kemi Badenoch’s views, but I would be similarly disgusted if she was racially ‘lampooned’ in the media.

When main stream, once highly regarded publications such as The Times and The Telegraph, are promoting, and thereby normalising, antisemitism we are in a dire place.

Boz Wed 06-May-26 14:49:18

If antisemitism is being promoted at this time. would it be a ploy to deflect the Muslim vote, who seems to favour Greens as an antidote to Reform?

The Muslim was known to him, a 'friend' who lived in the same area. The Jews were random strangers that he made a 40 minute journey to a predominantly Jewish area to select. He had a dispute with the fellow Muslim, he didn't even know the Jews. The police would not have known about the earlier Muslim victim, their knowledge extended to the two Jewish men that had been attacked. Hindsight is so brilliant isn't it?

Crikey, I hope you were born with a face that is not "dislikable" Boz. If so- your good fortune?

So what? I merely stated a fact. He stabbed a third person, who was a Muslim.

A ploy by whom? The pictures I saw most certainly suggested an anti-semitic stereotype.

Unfortunately it will not connect to your account if you do view it is incorrect. I've just used your link and it definitely linked to my account since my messages and notifications came up. Not that it matters to me, but it might to some.

But how was it in the least way relevant to what the police officers were dealing with, the knowledge they had? I'd suggest not at all.

I think if we are considering the causes and encouragement of antisemitism then the answer lays squarely at Netanyahu's door. His abhorrent attacks are the cause. As for the encouragement, as with anything that happens from a distance, it makes some people react in the only way they think they can, that is meet such atrocities with atrocities. Unfortunately some people choose not to understand that the only way forward is to show war criminals that understanding and peace is the only way forward. This would have greater impact on war criminals.

Yes, you are downplaying what our armed Forces and police do on a daily basis and dismissing them as not being brave, merely doing a job they are being paid for is unbelievable.

Wrong on so many levels.

That is the attitude that those attacking Jewish people in this country use as an excuse. What do ordinary Jewish people living in this country have to do with a war being waged in a foreign country.

If people are stupid enough to take that attitude (and obviously some are judging by the fear Jewish people are living with) we could go out and attack Americans living here because of what Trump is doing in the Middle East.
