I’m saddened to see Streeting resign and now he’ll start the protracted process of attempting to usurp the PM and take his place.

I’m sad because this is the first time this has happened to a Labour PM whilst still serving in power, sad because this will cause yet more chaos and economic and financial instability and sad because I’m actually pretty sick of all politicians at this moment!

Knee jerk response to the wins by Reform, handing even more success to Farage who will be lapping up this circus.
Totally counter productive.

Absolutely! Though Farage doesn’t need to be too smug, his newly elected councillors appear to be diminishing every day!

Oh that's a shame. And a right shambles.

I thought Streetings resignation letter was awful and I had a bit of a soft spot for him.

By many accounts (not all: I sat next to an unimpressed consultant at lunch yesterday) Streeting was making a decent job of SoS for Health. So this is not going to do the NHS any favours either. But never mind, anything may be sacrificed to further another grubby politician's ambition.

Bloody fools.

I’ve lost patience with them.

Streeting had better have a slate that is whiter than white because if he hasn’t the right wing press will have him for breakfast. Likewise all the potential PMs.

So very sick and tired of all this. How on earth is it helping anybody?

Could not agree more. Small people with big ego's.

midgey Thu 14-May-26 14:26:05

I wonder if they have any idea of how angry their behaviour makes the country. It’s also sad as Streeting was doing a good job of the NHS.

Let's face it thd press don't actually need facts.

I despair of them all. This country is going to the dogs whilst they snipe and bicker at one another. Can they just get on with the job they were elected to do? Best leave Starmer where he is and see if he can turn things around. Clutching at straws here.

I have to agree. Completely the wrong time and could do such damage to our already damaged country.

Agree 👏🏻

What a mess. I thought we'd seen the back of this and would have a settled government that would get on with the job. TBH I struggle to think of any politician from any party that would make an effective Prime Minister. I am totally sick of the lot of them!

GrannyGravy13 Thu 14-May-26 14:19:55

I am concerned, I cannot see anyone else that is up to the job.

Then again I am not a Labour Party member nor have I ever voted for them.

From a business perspective, if the new PM lurches further left, it could make things even more difficult than Rachel Reeves already has…

Fallingstar Thu 14-May-26 14:19:27

Bloody fools. Racing to throw their hats in the ring before the only man with a chance - Burnham - can join the race for leadership.
This reflects far more badly on them than on Starmer. Causing a ruckus when the country needs a steady hand on the tiller.
Whoever succeeds Starmer better have a magic wand because the troubles facing Starmer are not going away.

LemonJam Thu 14-May-26 14:15:19

I'm also saddened it has come to this- but come to this it has.

I thought Streeting's resignation letter was well worded and formulated.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 14-May-26 14:13:08

One thing I do think is that none associated with Starmer’s government should get the PM ship. They would by association be damned from the start.

We need a clean slate - if that is the road they have chosen to follow.

Silvershadow Thu 14-May-26 14:12:23

I’m not a Labour voter and never will be but I can’t understand the point of all this. What can Rayner, Burnham and Streeting bring that Starmer can’t or doesn’t? I don’t think he’s that bad. He seems to be quite a nice man to an outside observer. I dont get it myself. I can’t see Rayner or Burnham on the world stage somehow.

Grannybags Thu 14-May-26 14:02:42

It’ll be interesting to see who, if anyone, throws their hat into the ring as well

vegansrock Thu 14-May-26 13:52:14

Lets hope its the end of his political career. Backstabbers the lot of them.

Witzend Thu 14-May-26 13:51:17

I have to say I was impressed with Streeting’s statement that was read out on R4 a little while ago. Concise, articulate, to the point, no waffle.

sixandahalf Thu 14-May-26 13:44:48

What a waste of time, energy, rescources. Just do your bloody jobs properly. Like the rest of the population.

Corbyn has started an attack

MrsQuigley Thu 14-May-26 13:28:03

It’s not just the right wing press that won’t hold back with any muck-racking. The Tories were at the mercy of the left wing press when they were in office. Where does that leave us, the electorate whilst they pull each other to pieces? Up the creek, that’s where.
