Just seen in the news that the Met re deploying 4,000 extra police officers in London tomorrow, including armoured vehicles on standby.

If they are that concerned why haven’t they taken action to stop these marches or made them into standing rally’s in contained areas?

Our beautiful capital city once more rendered a no go zone.

Added into the mix it’s also the F A Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

All in the week when London has been named the number one city in the world for culture šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

Whitewavemark2 Fri 15-May-26 08:20:37

It all actually is part of our culture whether we agree or not.

MaizieD Fri 15-May-26 08:25:17

London is not beautiful. It has areas of beauty but over all it is overcrowded and ugly.

Culture takes many forms, including our national religion, football, and our freedom to protest peacefully.

London being held to be the centre of the UK universe naturally that’s where people want to go to get attention.

I’m not sure what the problem is.

Galaxy Fri 15-May-26 08:27:37

I loathe this war being fought out on our streets but I support the right to protest.

Mind you, I’m not altogether sure what the Yaxley Lennon lot is ā€˜protesting’ about…

GrannyGravy13 Fri 15-May-26 08:45:21

I support people’s right to protest.

I also support people’s rights to go about their every day lives without fear or disruption.

If the Met are worried, I suspect they have inside information.

MaizieD the outskirts of London are not as desirable as central parts, I agree. That’s the same as major/capital cities all over the world. As much as I adore New York, it is overcrowded and filthy, even Fifth Avenue, Wall St and surrounding Central Park.

As for the football match, it’s a yearly occurrence in one area. I do hope the Chelsea and Manchester City fans are well behaved šŸ¤žšŸ»

Galaxy Fri 15-May-26 08:45:47

I would march against the pro palestine marches, but I can't and don't want to speak for him.

AGAA4 Fri 15-May-26 09:04:14

I agree with the right to protest peacefully but because some marches don't remain peaceful a huge amount of money has to be spent on policing.

Cossy Fri 15-May-26 10:10:00

I actually think if the organisers had any sense of decency they’d postpone these planned marches, right at this moment in time is not the time for demos.

We are already an extremely divided, frustration, angry and restless country, I absolutely respects anyone’s right to peaceful protest, BUT as a world, as a country, we are already in an awful place.

I don’t agree with or condone any of the current well published wars in Iran, Gaza or Ukraine, but I fear these protests are badly timed.

I fear violence will erupt, I fear for our communities of both Jewish and Muslims and I just wish for a little amount of peace for them and the rest of us.

London is not beautiful. It has areas of beauty but over all it is overcrowded and ugly.

Overall it is not. It has areas which are less desirable but it has many areas which are beautiful or at the least interesting.
Parks, historic and modern buildings of interest, many pleasant suburbs.

I agree whole-heartedly.

Culture does not encompass hate. Peaceful protest yes.
And I hope the football fans behave too.

That is what I said, wasn't it?

I don't think it has enough good areas to be called 'beautiful'.

Well, like it or not it most certainly does.

Perhaps you're thinking more of 'civilisation'?

The Palestinian marches have always been peaceful. I was in London on a very hot day last year and the atmosphere, though noisy, was all about peace. I saw no trouble at all. Hundreds of thousands marched, of all religions including Jews, and no trouble.

I would not say the same for Yaxley Lennon and his thugs.

Why the police allowed their march the same day as the 75 year anniversary of nakba ( catastrophe) where 750,000 Palestinians were killed or forced to leave their homes who are, still to this day, refugees, with no right of return.

For those who still believe 7 October came out of the blue , please educate yourselves.

TheatreLover Fri 15-May-26 13:54:28

The pro-Palestine march tomorrow will start very near to where I live. I belong to a local WattsApp group that adds information about these marches. I've never seen any complaints about the behaviour of the participants of these marches in the area where I live.

There is concern about 'the so-called Unite the Kingdom mob' who seem to be planning to be in our area.

The Muslim Council of Britain is concerned enough to issue a safety statement advising British Muslims to stay away from Central London tomorrow.

MawsRosie Fri 15-May-26 14:04:50

Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to go into London for the day and NOT have to worry about violent protesters (they are not merely marching) or be afraid of getting caught up in ugly scenes?

MawsRosie Fri 15-May-26 14:08:41

Oh well that’s London (all of it warts and all) dismissed. .
The outer suburbs of Paris are in many places no-go areas or huge modern blocks of flats, yet we consider Paris a beautiful city.
I am SICK of the nay- sayers who put our country, our people or our lifestyle DOWN

I do agree with you regarding London. It is a beautiful city, and it has a fascinating and well documented history, so even the parts that are not beautiful are interesting if you dig beneath the surface appearance.

No.
You said London is not beautiful over all it is overcrowded and ugly.

I said it is not.
There are some areas which are less desirable. But overall it is interesting, indeed beautiful.

Do you live there perhaps?

I agree MawsRosie

I've lived in London (not the City which I visited often) and spent time in Paris (the suburbs too) and London can certainly hold its own and is one of the greenest cities in the world.

Maremia Fri 15-May-26 14:28:16

There could be a rule/regulation brought in permitting only one march per day.
That could preserve our rights to protest peacefully.

Gawd. London is not 'our country', our people or our lifestyle. It's a bit of it which I don't fand particularly pleasing.

MaizieD Fri 15-May-26 14:55:58

Is your area not particularly pleasing? Obviously all cities have areas which may not be so beautiful, usually those with homes densely packed, which we need to house people.

I remember having to move to London and being pleasantly surprised at how lovely so much of it was.
