Just seen in the news that the Met re deploying 4,000 extra police officers in London tomorrow, including armoured vehicles on standby.

If they are that concerned why haven’t they taken action to stop these marches or made them into standing rally’s in contained areas?

Our beautiful capital city once more rendered a no go zone.

Added into the mix it’s also the F A Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

All in the week when London has been named the number one city in the world for culture 🤦‍♀️

Ah, the peace loving left.

I hope they’re arrested and thrown in jail for inciting violence.

So do I, and I’m a member of the left leaning!

There’s wrong and right in almost every political spectrum.

We are all entitled to our views and opinions and to respect, we should respect each other, especially on here.

I make no secret of the fact I’d rather eat my own arm than vote Reform. I don’t understand anyone who supports them, or Trump or the YL mob, but we live in a democracy and so long as no laws are broken, including hate speech (or chants), then live and let live.

Anyone who breaks the law, doesn’t matter who they are or why they did it, should all be treated the same and face the consequences of their actions.

Words do matter, we all know this, and if we’re being honest we all know what these groups who march waving our flag mean, the same as those hanging them up on every blooming lamppost.

They aren't left. They are progressives/identity politics people. There isn't anything left wing about them.

I find it shameful that people object to the display of the Union flag, St.George's Cross, the Saltire and the Welsh Dragon. They are the flags of Britain, and are not displayed or venerated nearly enough.
Sad that it takes Tommy Robinson/Yaxley -Lennon to utilise them for his own purpose.

No-one seems to object to the Saltire or Union Flag here, they’re frequently flown together.

The flag of St. George has been hijacked by thugs, it’s very simple.

Galaxy Sat 16-May-26 22:24:09

I don't object to any of them.

Can you explain what you mean by these terms?

Are you refraining from putting them on a left - right spectrum because you think the terms are meaningless, or is it because they are just not left wing . If they're not left wing are they flightless?

All genuine questions, G

I thought the BBC report was very even handed and it was very interesting but so so awful as in a divided UK to read it all. I feel sorrowful it's come to this.

I really, really find the take over of our national flags by the far right horrendous.

It's like -the flags have ceased to be for us all, and how do we ever go back to when they were.

I really, really find the take over of our national flags by the far right horrendous.

I agree, it is horrendous. But we should not let these right-wing racists take over. The flags are not theirs.

how do we ever go back to when they were.
It is up to us. No shying away because of what some people think they represent, we need to reclaim the flags and urge our politicians, local and national, to help us do that.

keepingquiet Sat 16-May-26 23:02:35

I haven't seen the news- was there actually any trouble?

Maremia Sat 16-May-26 23:03:56

Starmer is not nationally reviled, as claimed upthread.

sixandahalf Sat 16-May-26 23:05:32

What a load of tripe. Ah well.

Jump right in Nige.

I think the left/right wing division is becoming more and more meaningless, I think it is also quite difficult to be left wing if you hate the working class, at the very best they don't understand class and view everything through the prism of other identities.

Maremia Sat 16-May-26 23:17:21

Led by Donkeys playing a montage about immigration being good for us.
Ending with, if you go back far enough, we are all immigrants. 👏 👏 👏

How? Sorry, but that sounds like empty rhetoric to me.

If that was in answer to my questions (why don't you use the quote facility instead of leaving us having to guess what you are responding to?) it doesn’t clarify anything at all. But thanks for responding if it is.

You were no help at all. I was just acknowledging that I had seen what I assumed to be your response.

I believe there was a pro -Palestine march as well.
Nothing said about that.

"Unite the kingdom" seems more like "Disunite the kingdom" to me. The people I heard interviewed on the news only spoke about two things, immigration ( hatred of) and getting rid of Starmer. TR is a rabble rousing thug with connections to International far right extremist groups, his criminal record and past history should lead people to see a red flag not the George Cross.

We won’t know until they release the information about who was arrested and why? I guess they will do that tomorrow.

The policing was high, and less than half the anticipated numbers turned up to march, so the police were able to keep the two marches separate, and that must have made a huge difference to the amount of trouble that occurred
