I'll share this quote again, dates back about 100 years, from American journalist, satirist and wit H L Mencken:- “As democracy is perfected, the office of President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”
Quite. If any supporters of the Great Orange Baboon have strayed on here, and think (?!) that's unfair, here's a couple of incidents to consider. A few years ago, at a shared Press Conference with the then Italian President, Chump referred to the "proud traditions of Italy and America going back to Ancient Rome". Yes --- he did. I believe he HAD just had a couple of pages of 'History for Dummies' read to him.
He also, in a July 4th "Salute to America" speech (2019?), made a historical blunder, when he said that the Continental Army “took over the airports” from the British during the American Revolutionary War in the 1770s.
(from Time Mag) >>> During his hour-long speech at the grounds of Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C., Trump stayed largely off politics, praised the Americans’ military efforts in the war against Great Britain. “Our army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over the airports, it did everything it had to do, and at Fort McHenry, under the rockets’ red glare, it had nothing but victory".
Doubtless the Wright Brothers, when considering their early airplane concept many decades after Independence, were thrilled to know that some airfields were already waiting for them to use?
