This report lists 149 local authority areas were rape gangs operate/d

There are going to be new and thorough investigations, with no stone left unturned.

Let’s hope so…

Nannee49, Which testimonies are you talking about? there have been a number of previous reports and unofficial testimonies. The subject of this OP is not the same. It's an "operation" and is about making sure there are consequences in cases which have, up to now, been largely overlooked.

I don't think there can be a proper discussion, if we're all talking about different things.

Doodledog Wed 17-Jun-26 14:42:35

I agree- they were children who never got the opportunity to develop self worth and all the other things in your first paragraph. Children in care, and those on the fringes of care are often badly let down.

All the same, most of them were 16+, so were let down by the legal system too. The abusers knew what they were doing. I was peripherally involved with one of the cases - I’m not speculating.

Nannee49 Wed 17-Jun-26 15:02:36

I apologise CatsWhiskas I've conflated your information regarding the investigation with the online testimonies - some from survivors themselves, some from the Rape Gang Enquiry report.

Sorry for any misunderstanding or dilution of the main thrust of this thread.

CatsWhiskas Wed 17-Jun-26 15:11:37

Not your fault at all and I honestly didn't mean to accuse you of anything.

I did post a link right at the start as to what this "report" is all about. It's not actually a report (that's already happened). It's about what is going to be done about the cases which were ignored first time round.

"*What is Operation Beaconport?*

Operation Beaconport was launched last year in response to Baroness Casey’s recommendations into group-based sexual exploitation, otherwise known as “grooming gangs”.

It is currently examining cases of sexual violence and abuse that were reported to police between January 2010 and March 2025, involved two or more suspects, and where a decision was made by police or the CPS to take no further action.

All police forces in England and Wales have now shared the relevant case information, and the Operation Beaconport team will be reviewing referrals to determine which should now be reopened.

Initial reviews have indicated that potential lines of inquiry in some cases had been missed due to “human error.”"

Maremia Wed 17-Jun-26 15:16:20

I take heart from the words 'no further action' 'overlooked'.

Nannee49 Wed 17-Jun-26 15:22:08

Ah no, I don't feel accused CatsWhiskas...don't worry, it's a subject of strong feelings, so important to get things right.

CatsWhiskas Wed 17-Jun-26 15:26:33

It's important to me too. That's why it 's all very well to post about the atrocities and write reports, but I'm just glad that the police forces have been forced to be held to account and to revisit past cases.

One positive from the various inquiries has been changes in attitudes to the girls (and boys) targetted by organised criminal gangs of sex offenders.

It’s rare now to hear victims blamed for ‘making poor lifestyle choices’, or hear 12 year olds referred to as child prostitutes.

Investigating, keeping vulnerable children safe and successfully prosecuting is complex. It needs dedicated multi agency teams, its resource demanding. In 1998 police in one metropolitan area acknowledged a force wide problem but said it lacked the resources to effectively investigation gate. Maggie Oliver isn’t the only practitioner involved at that time challenging the powers that be.

Nazir Afzal and Keir Starmer at the CPS were responsible for cases that had been closed by police and cps to be reinvestigated, with successful prosecutions.

I watched a Maggie Oliver video where she said that she says Iranians, Iraqis and Afghans are also in these grooming gangs as well as Pakistanis and they are all Muslims and their culture is completely different to ours.

She also said that prisons in their countries are clearing them out and they are coming here. As has been said countless times before, we have no idea who these people are.

Nannee49 Thu 18-Jun-26 10:48:43

As a laid back, live & live, liberal with a small 'l' minded person all of my life I have also maybe been a bit thick in thinking my easy going philosophy is shared by all & sundry.

It very, very clearly isn't.

The more I hear about the systemic failure to protect those vilely abused children the more rage & disbelief & naively stupid I feel.

Even yesterday, Sammy Woodhouse a rape gang survivor, so brave in speaking out about her utterly traumatic abuse, was once again tried to be silenced by the editor of Good Morning Britain as he told her - not requested - straightforwardly told her not to mention the ethnicity of the rapists who abused her so horrifically. She refused to be silenced.

Everyone should read the harrowing testimonies of Ms Woodhouse and her fellow abuse survivors. It's sickening, stomach churning reading that seems almost to be an alternate reality when NO! it was their actual reality day in day out with no-one listening, no protection offered, it's a national shame.

I assume you are aware that statistically the vast majority of (mainly) men on grooming gangs are white British. Goodness what kind of culture they've been brought up with.

Incidentally, the vast majority of Muslims have been raised in a culture which does not condone rape and torture.

What exactly does Maggie Oliver mean when she says foreign prisons are clearing people out and sending them to the West? I'd like to see some evidence that's happening, so I'd be grateful if you could provide it.

Unfortunately, they're not so vocal as some others and aren't given credit for what they did.

Yes, indeed there differences in skin tone between rapists but two wrongs do not make a right.

Does it really need saying again?

No, indeed they don't! But why is it important that people know. Sorry, but I'd been raped, the last thing I'd be worrying about would be the ethnicity of the person who raped me.

And why is there so little fuss made about white British grooming gangs?

Nannee49 Thu 18-Jun-26 11:10:18

And pardon me if I'm speaking out of turn but was not skin colour a massive factor in the rapists' choice of victim?

Maggie Oliver did not say they were being sent here. She (and I) said they were coming here once they were released. We all know how they get here!

A huge "fuss" should be made to bring to justice every single vile rapist full stop.

Galaxy Thu 18-Jun-26 11:13:37

I think it is quite important to tell the truth but others do think differently.
I think telling a victim of abuse how to talk about that abuse is actually abusive in itself.

Of course it should!

For a subset of rapists, yes, but why does nobody ever seem to start a thread about the vast majority of grooming gangs, which comprise white British men?

Let's treat them all equally!

Nannee49 Thu 18-Jun-26 11:30:38

I would be interested to know if there's been the same level of official cover up for rapists of white origin to protect their ethnic group cultural sensitivities.
