I don't think it's difficult.
For others this is what I understand:
You download a secure ID app.
You scan your real passport or ID card or whatever, and take a quick face scan to prove it's you.
The app verifies you are a match, checks your birth year, and deletes your ID photo from its system
Instead of saving your ID, the app creates a "token" and saves that inside a secure chip on your phone or wherever (I think this is the same place where Apple Pay or Google Wallet stores credit cards info).
The "token" is a string of numbers with hidden code/rule as part of the maths of the numbers. It basically can say this person was or wasn't over 18 (say)
When thd person opens Facebook or TikTok , (say) the app asks: "Are you old enough?" And your phone’s secure chip handles the request.
It takes that mathematical token, runs calculation, and sends a code back to Facebook by way of reply.
I know you looked this up but others may not have done so and I don't think it's particularly difficult.
Facebook’s computer checks the code. Because of how the math is set up, the code tells Facebook exactly one thing - is the person old enough - yes or no.
If we don't want to do it we can choose to opt out of social media.
I have opted out of many things!
