I just watched an interesting analysis on Sky News. There was a higher turnout than in the general election for this by election, which is apparently almost unheard of. With over 55% voting Burnham it was decisive.

I would have been stunned if he didn't win the momentum behind him was massive, Reform hasn't gone away smaller parties including the Tories came nowhere.

There is every reason why MPs rally round Burnham and depose Starmer immediately, they obviously want a change so why wait until after the summer break. Burnham "talks the talk" and should unite the Labour Party whether he can score enough successes to win the next election will be the real test.

And yet if you look at the Aberdeen South by election result yesterday, the Tories won easily, they got their first by election victory in Scotland for over fifty years. Reform came nowhere, nor did Labour or the Lib Dem’s. It’s all very interesting.

The country voted for change, Labour are turning out to be carbon copies of the Conservatives.

I am annoyed, disappointed and frustrated in equal measures.

Now we shall have weeks if not months of uncertainty whilst Labour continues its infighting.

All parties state the triple lock will remain, I don't agree but the pensioner vote is very powerful, so it will be clawed back in other ways - thats politics.

I can see that, I guess it’s not every day 0.1% of the population gets the chance to shape the future.

To be honest I am not surprised at the turnout, it wasn't in any sense an ordinary by election.

Maybe or maybe not but, by keeping the Personal Allowance Threshold frozen until at least 2031 Ms Robber Reeves will ensure that the fiscal drag mechanism will claw back any benefits of the Triple Lock via Income Tax.
