Feelings?

Could Mr Burnham restore Labour?

ViceVersa Mon 22-Jun-26 09:38:57

I have my doubts. I have serious concerns about his stance on women's rights, for one thing. The way the whole thing has been handled leaves a bad taste in my mouth too.

Aw, felt a bit sorry for him - his voice was wobbling when he paid tribute to his wife and children.

What a horrible thread title. Starmer's detractors vindictive to the last.

Cossy Mon 22-Jun-26 09:45:18

People should remember this day.

I certainly hope those that Starmer brought to power are happy and for the sake of the LP and our country I do hope AB has something truly magical to pull out of his hat!

Thank you Sir Keir, you are a good man and I’m sorry you were not given the chance to finish what you started!

Was that part of the 'problem'?
He wasn't 'elite' enough for some?

Usedtobeblonde Mon 22-Jun-26 09:46:37

I feel for everyone who has been hounded in public view.
I wish his successor an easier passage for the good of the country.

Maremia Mon 22-Jun-26 09:47:21

I will not forget that he kept us out of that illegal war.

Luckygirl3 Mon 22-Jun-26 09:48:03

I think the title of this thread says it all - it is an example of media soundbites at their worst and shows the way in which people have been led by the nose into this mess, the effects of which the rest of us will need to endure.

What a way to run a country ......

Couldn’t agree more, but then there are some people not content with simply sticking the knife in, have to give it a few twists too.

For some, these situations bring out the very worst, for some, they struggle to even find a simple drop of human kindness.

Compassion and empathy goes a very long way, but for some this is not possible.

Yet too elite for others?

I usually feel sympathy towards PMs when they resign, whether I support them or not. Who would want that job?
I’m sure his wife and children will be relieved.

Exactly weren’t people castigated for mentioning another politician’s trade?
Although he is a toolmaker’s son so it is a factual comment about an ancient occupation. Often requiring a high level of skill.

ronib Mon 22-Jun-26 09:50:41

Andy Burnham’s father was a telephone engineer and his mother a receptionist. If we care ….
It does feel as if the Labour Party has a knee jerk reaction to Reform and it’s simply wrong to remove Starmer over this.

Usedtobeblonde Mon 22-Jun-26 09:51:20

The two posted above just show human nature, so divisive.

I'm not going to let it bother me. It says a lot about the person who wrote it.

Usedtobeblonde Mon 22-Jun-26 09:53:38

A bit late as others posted but I’m sure you know what I mean.
A humble background is still a thing to be castigated by some.

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 22-Jun-26 09:53:39

The right wing media (and their followers) has a lot to answer for.

MartavTaurus Mon 22-Jun-26 09:54:08

This has become a regular occurrence in the UK. It makes us look rather silly. The People of the nation aren't getting to choose.

Disgraceful, isn't it?

I think he's done the right thing, but I felt so sad listening to the speech. He was given an impossible task, said it would take time to achieve it, yet people haven't given him any grace at all. I hope the soundbite crowd are pleased with themselves.

I now await the 'what about Boris?' comments 🙄

Usedtobeblonde Mon 22-Jun-26 09:57:34

Yes what about Boris?
An upperclassman example of bumbling incompetence .

I very much doubt his wife and children are relieved.

Starmer, in the eyes of his cabinet, his ex-colleagues, the country, the LP has utterly failed and has been totally humiliated.

Starmer stepped up to the biggest job in our country, thanks in part, to the media, to Reform and to making a (very) few poor decisions, he’s been hounded, hunted down, derided and very publicly humiliated.

Makes me ashamed as a fellow human and a LP supporter.

Sarnia Mon 22-Jun-26 09:58:17

It's like rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic. One thing I hope Burnham does is to sack Rachel Reeves. One of the worst Chancellors we have ever had.

NotSpaghetti Mon 22-Jun-26 09:58:46

So annoying to have Steve Bray blasting out (EU unofficial anthem) Ode to Joy

At least it wasn't Benny Hill though.
