What a horrible thread title. Starmer's detractors vindictive to the last.

Exactly weren’t people castigated for mentioning another politician’s trade?
Although he is a toolmaker’s son so it is a factual comment about an ancient occupation. Often requiring a high level of skill.

I usually feel sympathy towards PMs when they resign, whether I support them or not. Who would want that job?
I’m sure his wife and children will be relieved.

Was that part of the 'problem'?
He wasn't 'elite' enough for some?

Yet too elite for others?

Couldn’t agree more, but then there are some people not content with simply sticking the knife in, have to give it a few twists too.

For some, these situations bring out the very worst, for some, they struggle to even find a simple drop of human kindness.

Compassion and empathy goes a very long way, but for some this is not possible.

I think the title of this thread says it all - it is an example of media soundbites at their worst and shows the way in which people have been led by the nose into this mess, the effects of which the rest of us will need to endure.

What a way to run a country ......

I will not forget that he kept us out of that illegal war.

I feel for everyone who has been hounded in public view.
I wish his successor an easier passage for the good of the country.

People should remember this day.

I certainly hope those that Starmer brought to power are happy and for the sake of the LP and our country I do hope AB has something truly magical to pull out of his hat!

Thank you Sir Keir, you are a good man and I’m sorry you were not given the chance to finish what you started!

I have my doubts. I have serious concerns about his stance on women's rights, for one thing. The way the whole thing has been handled leaves a bad taste in my mouth too.

Me too! 😕😕😢😢

Aw, felt a bit sorry for him - his voice was wobbling when he paid tribute to his wife and children.

Could Mr Burnham restore Labour?
