I’m sure he won’t be missed. His own people and party turned on him so what did he expect.

I felt a tad sympathetic when he nearly started blubbing then I thought “no, he’s brought this on himself” because he was so useless. He actually tried to make out the slight reduction in small boat crossings was down to him but we all know it was the bad weather that stopped them.

And yes, Sago, please could you ask for a title change?

I think it is quite sad. I prefer Starmer to Burnham. He has been good on the international stage. His one major error was appointing Mandelson.
Starmer's failing is lack of charisma. People vote for charisma, hence they voted for Boris. I prefer integrity, intelligence and hard work.

What puzzles me is that the sins and omissions of Starmer pale into utter insignificance beside those of the orange baby but Trump is still there. Things must be very different in the USA.

I remember him being interviewed by James O'brien ages ago.
I was relieved later when it was clear we were having a thoughtful and considerate person in no.10.

I fear this is a sad day for this country and agree with so many of the comments about the way people have been led by the media . I don't think Keir Starmer stood a chance with their constant jibes which started before he took office.
I still do not know why Burnham has been pushed into this . What are his policies ? The Labour Party has let down its members.

Having said that, possibly it's time for Labour not to have someone from the small pool of the London Metropolitan elite. The north does at times feel under represented. I speak as a southerner.

It seems to me that no matter how popular a PM may have once been, there will inevitably come a time of general disenchantment, followed by the resignation, forced or otherwise, if not by a general election.

I hope he becomes a foreign minister or an ambassador because he seems much more comfortable overseas. Maybe back to Europe as a lawyer ? At long last he has done something right. What of Burnham ? Maybe his policies will be just as bad but he will be better at ‘selling’ them. Hope he doesn’t use that silly Ed Millibrand in a position of influence.

For some, these situations bring out the very worst, for some, they struggle to even find a simple drop of human kindness.

Compassion and empathy goes a very long way, but for some this is not possible.

I have my doubts. I have serious concerns about his stance on women's rights, for one thing. The way the whole thing has been handled leaves a bad taste in my mouth too.

Whoever we lend our political vote to, every single one of us deserves better than this!

I really hope AB is extremely proud of himself and behaves better than he has done to date, I hope he lends his support and frankly his thanks to Starmer until he takes the reins.

Good luck Burnham, I truly hope you have done the right thing for our country, heaven help us, and you, if you don’t use your power with care and don’t serve us all with the care, consideration and decency we all deserve.

I very much doubt his wife and children are relieved.

Starmer, in the eyes of his cabinet, his ex-colleagues, the country, the LP has utterly failed and has been totally humiliated.

Starmer stepped up to the biggest job in our country, thanks in part, to the media, to Reform and to making a (very) few poor decisions, he’s been hounded, hunted down, derided and very publicly humiliated.

Makes me ashamed as a fellow human and a LP supporter.

I think he's done the right thing, but I felt so sad listening to the speech. He was given an impossible task, said it would take time to achieve it, yet people haven't given him any grace at all. I hope the soundbite crowd are pleased with themselves.
