Well, the iNewspaper seems to be - featuring a photo of the Burnham tribe billed as "the new First Family".
Eh? There's the not insignificant matter of democratic process......or is Andy Burnham's visa to Downing Street sorted and just waiting to be rubber-stamped?

Ladyleftfieldlover had lifted a quote from a post above hers by David49, and she was asking what he meant by that phrase I think?
Ok- in which case perhaps David49 might answer?

Yes, it's disgraceful that any party can do this.
I hope they have jumped the gun and it doesn't go to plan.
And especially after the utterly disgraceful way a real socialist was treated and hounded out a few years ago.
Newspapers eh 🤷♀️

‘… giving away many of our assets to foreigners…’
Please explain.
Didn't Thatcher sell our oil to other countries so that, even if we did start drilling for oil in the north sea again we'd have to pay market prices for it? We should have been an oil rich country back then and would still have been reaping the benefits now.

She used the oil money for tax cuts for the wealthy...

Keep calm and carry on is the slogan for our times. Like LemonJam I’m hopeful and positive about Andy Burnham. I was about Keir Starmer and it was a very long time before I reluctantly agreed he had to go.
Andy Burnham is more of a fairly well known politician as he used to and now represents areas I know well. When he mentioned the left behind he named Platt Bridge which I’m very familiar with because of my working life. Honestly I feel emotional remembering the ex mining families who lost pride, couldn’t find any work and so much alcohol and drug addiction followed. Andy gets it, that’s what’s neededHow true Iam64
You would have to be deaf dumb and blind not to be aware of the north/ south divide. Especially when you realise what came from the north: the Industrial Revolution which set this country on its way to being a powerhouse of industry and innovation.

It's not just the North/South, many regions have completely different needs. I seem to remember we used to be proud of these differences. Going down the AB way might mean that we could be again.

Allowing foreign investors to run utilities and take any profit away from the UK, private finance of infrastructure instead of paying for it ourselves. Allowing companies to be taken over by foreign companies instead of funding them to modernize.
Worst of all decarbonizing UK when we have virtually no renewable industry and a nuclear program financed by foreigners at least a decade behind schedule.
They are not investing in the UK for any other reason than to take money away from us. It has gone so far l dont see the way out, for example nationalizing the water industry is far beyond current resources and thats just one of the changes needed.
It's not just me concerned even the OBR are forecasting the UK borrowing rising to 350% of GDP

The quote was giving away our assets to foreigners. The investors PAY and do not receive shares in UK companies for free.
Its the removing of UK utility companies from government ownership to private ownership that is surely the problem?
Regarding global investments in principle how can that be achieved? If the UK prohibits foreign investors buying shares in UK companies other countries may prohibit UK investors in response.
I wonder how many family members are aware how and in what countries and companies their pension funds are specifically invested form year to year over their working life. time. Overseas companies may deliver better investment profit and help their pension growth and there are likely to be some overseas investments by their pension provider. Purely to profits out of overseas companies to benefit UK citizens' pension pots you understand.

I didn’t like his behaviour on his first attendance in parliament
Not a fan at all.
Dumped his Manchester voters, not all of Manchester was happy with his work
Somehow managed to persuade a credible recently elected MP to stand down. (My feeling is that Reform did not want to win the seat which would have stopped the chaos we now have)
Grandstanding existing policies as if they are his own and new, ready to take credit for all of the groundwork already in progress.
Assuming a walk straight into the PM role, dumping the very constituents who have just elected him
Perhaps, but it does seem as if the rest of the hopeful MPs have faded away.
But perhaps he needs reminding that the mid point of the UK is nearer Newcastle than Manchester. How about Carlisle, Alnwick or Berwick for a new parliament location?
Manchester has already had huge cash injections and moving the BBC to reignite it.
He talks about devolving control, but that was tried with regional assemblies and only the national ones continued. Keir is already reducing the number of levels by taking out districts. Now we are looking at more civil servants to do what a centralised activities are doing.
Cason Given the state of the housing market and AB's family only being in 20s, they may well still be living wuth him.
His two older children live and work in London already. Apparently the youngest has just finished her degree, so she might. I doubt he will be at no 10 much anyway by the sounds of it.
I think the idol Burnham will be shown to have feet of clay.
He talks the talk. And walks the walk.
But really has has nothing new or useful to offer.
All the nonsense about devolution, HS2 etc. Is pure BS . And not going to happen.
He and his crony advisors seem to come up with new gimmicks everyday.
Today, it was getting teenage, unemployed ethnic minorities in to work.
Obviously courting their vote
A neighbour of mine.Thinks that Burnham is just a Scouser on the make.

Has anyone ever wondered why we take on so many immigrants when we are struggling with resources and infrastructure? Is it to patch over the low birth rate? Massage the economy, assist in the wealth accumulation of overseas slum landlords who are buying up most of the old terraced houses for HMO's?
Is it to fill the low end jobs that the UK population won't take on?
Because whatever the answer, it isn't party specific. Since Brexit the tories arranged a landslide record surge of uneducated, single male immigrants into the most struggling North West cities and towns, where ghetto's are already in formation. These towns are now weighted towards the male gender, many of whom do not respect women. This isn't 'diversity', it is unprecedented.
This isn't a single party issue and no single party (no matter what they promise) are invested in any kind of measured dialogue about the topic, nor are they prepared to 'fix' whatever the issue is, since it is quite obviously a very lucrative set up....for someone.
There's a party up and coming that will deal with it!! I have never been a member of a political party but I have joined this one. They are working hard to stand in the next GE and I shall shuffle to my polling station and vote for the first time in years. They stand for those of us who work/retired pay our taxes and are sick of getting ripped off. Not only willing to sort the illegals but also all those Brits that can't be arsed to work and are a drain on the state and taxpayers. The leader is not afraid to ruffle feathers or stand up to the establishment even when hes been threatened. He wants the police to be given back their authority to actually "police" and not be pressured by government or afraid of being racist when arresting criminals. We need to get back to basics and look after our own homeless, stop taxing pensioners, stop giving money to people entering the country illegally and look after our own people first. We are a "soft touch" and it needs to end.

Maybe your neighbour has just got it in for Everton. If "a Scouser on the make" "he talks the talk" et al is what passes for political critique these days lord help us. 😬
Burnham met up with some of the new MP’s from the last election today. A local MP is very taken with him. There is a problematic junction with the M1 in his constituency which he asked him about and was told that things like that will be taken over by local authorities. The MP is very chuffed with that but I did point out that Burnham is talking about years into the future so has promised him absolutely nothing. ( but he said it in a cheerycharismatic way no doubt…)

I think you’ll find that ‘ the leader’ is very much part of the establishment himself
We need a Leader who is upfront about who is funding him, and why?
