Rupert Lowe and Dunblane

Many of us on here will recall Dunblane. No words will ever sufficiently express the heartbreak and horror of that day and the emotion that the class photograph still engenders. There is nothing that Rupert Lowe can ever say to make amends for at best his ill- informed stupidity and at worst his deliberate lying to make a cheap point about gun control

Dickens

He appears annoyed that his father's pistols were taken away after the slaughter of those children, presumably because of the ban on hand guns.

... and that's more important than guns getting into the wrong hands - like the perpetrator of those horrific murders?

Apparently, he wants to "release the individual". Judging by the egos, emotional immaturity and narcissism of some "individuals" - I think the very last thing they need to be in possession of, is hand guns.

Dear God, please do not allow us to go down the 'American' route...

Exactly! America and their stupid gun policies have been tbe Cause of multiple murders and mass murders! We may suffer from quite a lot more violence over here but nothing on the scale that those automatic and other weapons cause in the US.
And before someone says but it’s the people who wield tbe guns not the guns… quite but the easy access is ridiculous… and now tbe politically biased Supreme Court have allowed guns to be carried in public spaces even for druggies and mental patients…. ANYONE with a grain of sense you’ll vote against that, but no the IDIOTIC court has to enshrine such stupidity into law!!

Well, we do have a problem with knife-crime, so cannot be complacent.

... but that's all the more reason not to become a gun-owning society.

Dickens, the USA has a significant problem with knife crime, also.

We were living in Scotland at the time, had young girls and DH instantly handed his guns in.

If even Farrago's shambolic mob of pretend political wannabes booted Lowe out, that says enough.
My sports consultant tells me that Lowe was a failed football club chairman. Obvious choice for PM . . .

As far as I am aware, Lowe made these comments, disparaging our gun laws, in a country, which has a tragically frequent number of school shootings.
Is that what he is prepared to accept for us, if he gets into power?

The Joe Rogan podcast has 11 million listers per episode. And no RL is not an insensitive oaf- he is a man prepared to use and lie about to make a point about gun control. That’s not insensitive, it’s wicked

How on earth he thought he could get away with it, defeats me. I can’t believe he really didn’t know, or couldn’t remember. But if that IS the case, he needs testing for dementia, or at least, cognitive decline.

Rupert Lowe can make sure it never happens again!

Oh gosh - I hadn't researched any of this... yes, I guess it figures as it's not difficult to get hold of them quite legitimately for one thing. Via a standard shopping trip possibly...

"Even though the UK struggles with knife violence among young people, its per capita fatal stabbing rate remains lower because the overall violent crime and homicide rates in the US are significantly higher across all categories." (Google AI)

Which begs the question - why are Musk, Vance and others so invested in portraying Britain as such a dangerous place to live or visit when individuals in their own backyard are attacking and killing each other, per capital, far more frequently. Of course, I know the answer, but that's for another debate.

To return to the original OP matter, Rupert Lowe's comment is unforgiveable - he reduced the horror of a mass-shooting of children to "one murder" in order to justify his grievance against our gun laws, because that resulted in his father's weapons being confiscated.

Can he hear himself?

It seems to be the practice of quite a few right wing politicians to be happy to bad mouth the UK.
