I wonder if there are people researching and writing thesis in about the Uk, on all this.
It would be an enlightening read.

Security for all MPs

Farage is a man who so far
has survived being hit by a car, testicular cancer, a wheel coming off his car on a French motorway and a plane crash.
Now the very sad murder of Ann Widecombe has happened.
No one can hardly blame the man for being a bit alarmed for his safety, going forward.
I think all MPs should be very aware of their own safety.
Are you suggesting, that all those events you’ve mentioned are somehow deliberate politically motivated acts? Surely not?

No.

Do you think the more outspoken , and the MPs more in the public eye should have better security than the others?
This may well be better talked about on a new thread, so as to take it off the Ann Widdecombe one.

That doesn’t actually mean much unless it’s compared to the number of threats received by other leaders and politicians though, Sunshinegirls, does it? We have no idea whether it is exceptional or not without comparators. There also isn’t an explanation regarding what happens when people make death threats, presumably they are passed on to the police for investigation - we do see people prosecuted quite often as a result of them making threats against politicians.
I’m not minimising the potential risk to Nigel Farage, I just don’t think it’s helpful for snapshots like this to be released with no context.
I agree.
As posted earlier Farage needs to report his actual online threats ( and any other threats) to the police for investigation and potentially prosecution.
Information from Zia Yousef is hearsay with all due respect. Actual reporting and handing over said online threats to the police will verify and quantify the level of online threats Farage receives. Then his numbers can be compared to other MPs who receive online threats.
On line threats cannot be dealt with by a man in a suit standing beside him and the police and/or state can only respond if they are informed and Farage avails himself of his star. funded security- which for some bizarre reason he has declined. His choice.
The police have cybercrime units that work directly with Internet Service Providers and. email providers to analyse email metadata, server routing logs and IP addresses.
Thus. they are well positioned to track and identify the sender of such threats Zia Yousef claims. The police arrive at the person's home unannounced arrest under a suspected Malicious Communications charge- then bring in the individual for police interview etc.
Malicious Communications Act 1988 is the legislation and it is an offence to send a letter, electronic communication that contains a threat.
Pretty slam dunk once the evidence trail is secured.
Reform need to clean up their act and their use of language.
Tice, and Yusuf, in particular, frequently refer to Conservative and Labour politicians as traitors.
Farage said Lord Hermer was betraying national interests. More recently he said the the public should respond with cold rage to the murder of Henry Nowak.
Yusuf wrote: I view Tory and Labour politicians as traitors to their country. A reckoning is coming.
and:
A mortal blow to the Tories. Nothing less that these traitors deserve.
He "liked" a far-right anti-semitic tweet which called Jenrick a traitor and criticised his Jewish wife and family.
Lee Anderson in a Westminster debate: Labour MPs are all traitors.
Human rights barrister Andy Wagner wrote:
Words have consequences – and riling people up on the basis that lawyers and politicians are ‘traitors’ can lead to worse things than critical posts from me.
On June 16, 2016, Nigel Farage unveiled is UkiP "Breaking Point" anti-migrant poster. It was widely condemned by MPs from other parties.
Hours later. Thomas Mair shot MP Jo Cox twice in the head and once in the chest with a modified .22 hunting rifle then stabbed her 15 times. He shouted "This is for Britain", "keep Britain independent", and "Britain first”.
As his trial he said he was death to traitors.
Do you see the connection, Sunshinegirls?
How exactly would the £5million gift, allegedly for security actually stop online threats?
Why doesn't Farage report them. to the police?
Graphite language is important, one Labour politician murdered, one Conservative politician murdered and now with Ann a former Conservative politician and a Reform spokesperson murdered.
Are those on the left just more subtle with their insults and language or are they deeper undercover ?

I'm intrigued by Yusuf's largely mendacious statement. Has someone been logging these threats over a long period of time or has an aide been frantically searching social media for the last few days?
I agree that everyone in the public eye should be cautious with their language.
What bothers me is that Reform politicians, on an almost daily basis, use their monetised X accounts to post inflammatory language which could lead to tragedy.
When Yusuf talks about a reckoning coming to politicians he calls traitors and receiving a mortal blow they deserve, does he even recognise the link between Farage’s behaviour and the death of Jo Cox and the words her killer used ?
Perhaps not as he has a habit of denying things that happened before he joined Reform e..g nobody senior in Reform knew Russian asset Nathan Gill despite Farage and Tice having known and worked with him for years.
Yusuf’s behaviour is insidious and needs to be reined in.

The killing or attempted killing of MPs cannot be discussed simply as a left/right issue. Firstly, 6 MPs have been killed by Irish Nationalists, then more recently Nigel Jones’s a LD MP was seriously injured and his aide murdered. The killer was deemed mentally unfit to stand trial and there was no political motive apparent. Stephen Timms was seriously injured by an Islamic extremist whilst Jo Cox’s killer was a white supremecist . David Amess’ killer was also involved with radical Islamism. With Ann Widdecombe we do not have all the information yet although ‘communist’ literature as been mentioned. Obviously the whole online world of threats of varying degrees of vileness and seriousness is another issue but is awash with misogyny and racism. Ask Sadiq Kahn and Diane Abbott especially but many female and black MPs across the political spectrum
Lucy Connolly, 41, received a 31-month prison sentence after calling for “mass deportation now” in a social media post to her 10,000 followers on X on the day three children were killed in a knife attack in Southport.
In the expletive-ridden message she said set fire to all the fucking hotels full of the bastards for all I care and concluded if that makes me racist so be it
Nigel Farage described Lucy Connolly's conviction as a symbol of Keir Starmer's authoritarian, broken, two-tier Britain criticising her imprisonment as evidence of a two-tier justice system. He advocated for her case internationally, calling it a prime example of the UK backsliding on free speech Even Elon Musk waded in saying LC's free speech should be allowed.
Farage appears have his own 2 tier system when it comes to malicious communications! Farage publicly said Lucy Connolly should have been allowed to incite racial hatred under the umbrella of free speech and that she was not allowed is a symbol of an authoritarian state
So can someone help me understand why Farage believes people other than Lucy Connolly are not allowed to exercise free speech in exactly the same way and send malicious on line communications to Farage under the same umbrella of free speech

I think it’s likely that many many MPs get many many threats, especially party leaders.
I agree that unless we are shown the amount others get, it’s pretty meaningless, though nonetheless not at all nice nor acceptable.
However, I would ask, why?
People on and off this site constantly state how popular Farage is and that the “silent majority” support him. So who are all these people sending these horrible threats and why?
Also are these threats from one person or 1,577 people, have these emails all be sent onto the police? (Sorry I’m assuming these are emails).
That’s a question for you, how were these threats received and why only now are these details being released?
Threats of any nature are abhorrent and unacceptable.
However, for example Dame Mourdant has received in excess of 700 rape and death threats.
In ONE NIGHT Jess Phillips received 600 rape threats, in 2019 a man forced his way into her office and on another occasion a white supremest sent her a photo of Jo Cox (after her murder).
These are just two examples of two MPs threats. If you research yourself, no doubt you’ll find many more.
This simply isn’t just *about Farage and Reform and appalling as AW murder is, Reform should hang *their heads in shame by trying to make this all about Farage, especially at this time!
This is about the safety of all MPs and a vile murder of a vulnerable 78 year old former Conservative MP, who was not safe in her own home.
I’m afraid empathy and sympathy for all Reform MPs will diminish rapidly, if they keep stating things that are not factually accurate.
The truth is Farage was not denied state funded protection.
Farage is not the only MP receiving vile and unacceptable threats.
All and any MPs are entitled to additionally fund additional security, it’s not about Farage using the £5m to secure this these additional safeguarding measures, it’s about whether, in not declaring this “gift” or “donations” Farage broke any rules or not.
If he did he needs to accept this and any penalties, if he didn’t, then he has to accept that any other MPs in his situation would also be open to investigations.
Whether Mr Farage likes it or not, he is not special or different, to any other MP or party leader, and the same rules apply to all of them.
The sooner he and Reform understand and accept this, the sooner we can all get back to BAU.
Leave the police to their job and the government to do theirs.

Precisely!
As an aside, who else do we know who uses vile events to draw attention away from himself or any perceived or alleged wrong doings?
On a daily basis I ask myself what the f* has happened to our politics. Frankly, to me, this is extremely reminiscent of Oswald Mosley!
Yusuf has given a press conference today.
Listen to him brush off questions from BBC and ITV about his own inciteful language.
Not just me who is aware of it.

Apparently he is espousing views "that are popular in this country" so that's alright then.

Opening Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday, Sir Keir told MPs: 'It is chilling that during my time in this Parliament, 11 years, three serving or former MPs have been murdered.
'I look across at the shield for our dear friend Jo Cox and the shield for Sir David Amess that sits behind me.
'I know this is a House matter, so this is my personal view, but I do believe it'd be fitting for the House to consider a similar tribute to Ann.'
Sir Keir later added: 'I believe we must do more to defend our democracy.'
Ms Widdecombe, the 78-year-old former MP and MEP, was found dead at her home in Haytor on Dartmoor, Devon, on Thursday.
The force later said she was found dead inside the property and had sustained 'serious injuries'.
Police added that they believed the ex-Tory prison minister was attacked on Wednesday at about 12.30pm, nearly 24 hours before she was found.
On Friday, Devon and Cornwall Police Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman said the case is 'not being treated as terrorism' and there was 'no information' at this time to suggest it was a 'politically-motivated crime'.
But on Monday, cops U-turned to say the former MP's death is being treated as an act of terrorism and that new information and evidence had come to light during the investigation.

Counter-terrorism police said Ms Widdecombe was killed in a 'targeted attack' as they gave a briefing to reporters yesterday.
Mr Farage has said he plans to meet the Royal and VIP Executive Committee, the body responsible for the security of high-profile figures, on Thursday following an offer from Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood.
'I will be in London tomorrow to meet the Home Office committee that deal with VIP and royal protection and really helping them to understand what the threats are,' he told TalkTV.
Mr Farage was offered a security package similar to Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch last year, including a bodyguard, car and trained driver, but he turned it down because he deemed it a downgrade.
He said: 'What happened was I was provided with… much bigger security than Kemi Badenoch. Do you know why? Because I go out around the country and walk down high streets. I go and mix in public events. I'm surrounded by hundreds of people.
'I can't do that with a driver and one officer. I have to have people that go ahead, scout out the environment. I need more people because of my constant interaction with huge numbers of the public.
'What happened last year was they cut that by 75 per to the level that I simply could not have continued to operate the way that I was. That really is part of the thinking behind the big gift that I got from Christopher Harborne.'
Mr Farage, whose resignation as Clacton MP paused an investigation by Parliament's standards commissioner over the £5 million gift he received from crypto-billionaire and Reform donor Mr Harborne.
He has faced criticism for speculating about the motive for the suspected murder of Miss Widdecombe.
Mr Farage has also claimed there is an 'establishment narrative' trying to demonise his party.
'I do point the finger at political leaders, I do point the finger at much of mainstream media. They are building up a narrative of total hatred against us,' he said.
Ignore the first 3 paragraphs
I googled how many MPs have been murdered in the last 20 years
Uk 3, France 0, Germany 1, Holland 0
I think two serving UK MPs have been murdered in the last twenty years haven’t they? Before that, several were killed by the IRA, I can still remember the sense of disbelief when Airey Neve was blown up by a bomb under his car.
Serving, yes.
Two serving and one retired is still three too many.
Those killed under the IRA killings were horrendous. During one of the IRA “sprees” in the 80’s, I was working in the square mile of London City, which was targeted several times and it was very scary time.
I do believe security needs to be regularly reviewed for MPs, but for all MPs, not just for Reform.
All of them face the same or similar risks as each other. There’s no one MP more important than another.
I’m still not sure what it is Reform actually believe they require in the way of State/Public funding, that they haven’t already got.
I’m still not sure why Farage is so adamant he is at so much more risk than any other MP, Minister or even the PM?
Frankly, it’s outrageous.
my thoughts,, why only MP`s no one should be killed ..... o.k. hit me!

Guess he government cannot afford bodyguards for us all…
The not he
Jo Cox was killed outside her constituency office by a far right British activist, and David Amess was killed whilst doing a constituency surgery, by an Islamic state fanatic. Protection for MPs active on constituency duties should be introduced for all MPs and would go some way at least to prevent a repetition of those murders.
