Judging by the response he got on both sides of the house clearly not the worst and most hated PM for years.

Keir’s farewell
(90 Posts)I was struck by the mutual respect, even affection in the tribute by Kemi Badenoch and the good humour in the exchanges between her and the Prime Minister.
The Commons at its best!
Gango
He has been the worst prime minister this country has ever had. For him to make out he has improved anything but doctors salaries and the benefits bill is quite frankly shocking.
Not even sure that the PM elect will be any better. Put the electorate in the driving seat and call for an election
One can only assume that Gango was in coma throughout Boris Johnson's tenure… and indeed that of Liz Truss.
Since Lord North has always been judged to be the worst Prime Minister ever (for losing America), I would be fascinated to read Gango's league table for the 54 who followed.

I do think the whole thing would be better if Parliament was in a modern building with a semi-circular, tiered set-up. It is far too adverserial as it is. I know from friends that the building is very hard for people to work in and inadequate in so many ways.
I am sure it could have a future as a tourist attraction.
I've thought this for years. Parliament is an anachronism; an archaic pantomime. MP's play to the gallery and the tv audience. Needs dragging into the modern age imo.
For me you spoilt your post when you decided to join in with ‘Rachel from accounts’. She has, not the most affluent, pensioner parents and I’m sure she loves them
It was something that needed doing and the press hyped it up dreadfully
Oh spare us the violins, hearts and flowers not the most affluent pensioner parents blah, blah, blah.
Rachel Reeves parents have nothing to do with anything. Yes they are retired teachers (TP quite generous actually, final salary pensions) also divorced - but so what?
Bottom line- cancelling the WFP at almost exactly the same time as awarding a very generous 15% multi year pay award to the train drivers which compound deal brought average train driver salaries to an estimated £69,000, spoke volumes about where her or HMG’s sympathies lay in 2024.

Don’t you think we were well out of it - in hindsight, no great loss.

It's an interesting question isn't it. Probably a good thing with hindsight, but a bit late to apologise to Lord North. It would need a definition of "worst" of course. In my lifetime that would be Cameron / May / Johnson for Brexit. My choice for the best PM would be Atlee.
Then you should know 5 years is the max. General election can be called anytime
Lip service!!

Well they all know they could be next for the chop. It is a bear pit.
Dead right!
At least lord north waged war to try to retain it. Not like Starmer and “mastermind” lammy who wanted to give away Chagos so Britain could lease it back. That’s what you would class as idiots at work
Bring on the Andy Burnham show.
The North West's Song and Dance Man. A bit more personality than Starmer.
Very shrewd man. But like most Politicians, he is just out for himself and should not be trusted.
You have been warned!
In June 2023 Keir Starmer said if he ever became PM he would never dish out resignation honours
He has changed his mind, again…
Sir Kahn is now Lord Kahn
He never was Sir Khan but Sir Sadiq

It’s not his resignation honours list. There’s always a list of new peers every July. For some reason the resignation honours list is always months after the actual resignation. Perhaps KS won’t issue one then - but let’s wait and see before rushing in to condemn him for something he hadn’t actually done yet.
The stupidity of making Sadiq Khan a Lord deserves a thread of its own.
There is no evidence whatever that Rachel Reeves has had a hatred of older people.

Indeed - if she did how can it be explained that she left the ISA limit at £20,000 for older people but it’s going down to £12,000 for everyone else?

Well start one and explain your opinion to us then please.

What’s that got to do with it not being a resignation honours list? I know what’s being said
On 19 June 2025, Keir Starmer set out the roles and responsibilities of all parties involved in making nominations to the House of Lords.
www.theyworkforyou.com/wms/?id=2025-06-19.hcws718.h
This includes providing citations that clearly set out to the public why an individual has been nominated to the House of Lords. I expect party leaders to take full responsibility for properly considering the suitability and quality of their nominations, including whether nominees have the skills, ability and willingness to contribute to the work of the House and a commitment to high standards in public life.
You can read the citations here for nominations made by Starmer (including the citation for Sadiq Khan), Badenoch and Davey plus the nominations for crossbench peers.

14. The Rt Hon Sir Sadiq Khan - Mayor of London and former Member of Parliament for Tooting. Sir Sadiq is the Mayor of London, first elected in 2016 and re-elected for a historic third term in 2024. He is the first Muslim Mayor of a major Western capital and has led London through significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, terrorist attacks and the climate emergency. Under his leadership, London has expanded affordable housing, introduced free school meals, increased youth provision, transformed public transport including the completion of the Elizabeth Line, and introduced the world's largest clean air zone. Before becoming Mayor, Sadiq was a councillor and MP for Tooting. He has held various Ministerial positions, attending Cabinet as Minister of State for Transport. The son of a bus driver and a seamstress, he grew up on a council estate, working as a prominent human rights lawyer before entering politics. He remains an advocate for social justice, equality, and the role of cities in tackling global challenges.
What is this citation indicates that the appointment is stupid?
The dreaded trump won’t be happy to see the Mayor of London made a Lord! Good. I am pleased that someone is being sent to the Lords who actually deserves it. Can anyone remember the young woman who Boris J recommended a peerage for? Apparently we aren’t allowed to talk about it! She was only 29 and I think worked in the Cabinet Office at a not particularly high level. Bizarre. But Sadiq Khan - yes very well deserved.
