Just saw a bit of his speech and sounds like he is going to make some big changes.

I still don’t get how he was only elected to Parliament a month ago but is going to become Prime Minister next week!

We’ve just sent £153 million of foreign aid to Pakistan.
£153 million! We shouldn’t be sending them anything until they agree to take back the disgusting grooming gang man who has just been released from prison. We are such a soft touch.

Ah yes, somebody else has trotted this out. Must be doing the rounds somewhere.

It’s what most people would think if they took a poll I bet.

Keir Starmer has made some good choices at home and internationally. A man of integrity but for reasons I can’t begin to understand, many people didn’t not just dislike him, you’d hear the word hate.

I’m a Gtr Manchester person, a Labour Party member. I supported Keir and very reluctantly for numerous reasons agreed he should stand down. I’ve met Andy Burnham, seen him speak and as a Gtr Manchester person have seen the positive impact he’s had here. Not perfect but I don’t expect perfection.

I don’t expect perfection either, but expected better than what we got with Keir Starmer. It was one mistake after another.
But I don’t get the hate either, think it must be the disappointment a lot of people including Labour members and voters and MP’s felt about him.

If they read The Sun.

If they read any newspaper or none actually greyfur
What kind of person wants this sicko to stay here? He never repudiated the idea that it was wrong to groom and have sex with underage children. He will reoffend for sure.

Primrose not sure what this has to do with your OP🤷‍♀️

I am currently multi tasking. I was actually trying to reply to MayBee70 who posted about the “biggest ever trade deal with India.”

Iam64 Fri 17-Jul-26 21:39:32

It was a daily mail article. It has nothing to do with Andy Burnham or attempts to deport this man. I imagine many people will be relieved and delighted when he is deported (hope he is)

LizzieDrip Fri 17-Jul-26 21:40:11

Ok - soz!

No need for that! It’s everywhere - papers, Facebook, YouTube, discussed on chat progs etc.

India/Pakistan?
Two different countries, aren't they?

Maremia Fri 17-Jul-26 22:27:24

Wonder if it has been discussed on GB News?

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit!

I never said they were the same country. Unlike some on here I do not have time to provide reams of links, statistics etc. and often don’t even have time to finish a post but if you feel good constantly having a go at me then you carry on.

Nobody wants reams, just a little thought.

Same here. We both agreed that we would give him a chance, and we did.
One thing I noticed in myself was when he was giving a speech.
I found that my brain would wander to the price of eggs in Tesco’s, not good.
We both made excuses for policies we didn’t agree with, but, Mandelson was the last straw.

He says he will make the biggest changes in 40 years. Quite a boast.

I did say earlier that I think he's made himself a hostage to fortune.

So much talk of radical change and positive future achievements in his speech, He will be held to all of them...

Unless he manages to come to grips with the 'Treasury View' (https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2026/07/16/whats-wrong-with-the-treasury-view/#gsc.tab=0) and the finance industry/bond markets, he will achieve very little. IMO

Another psychodrama and who cares?

One might care if suddenly things improve or get even worse ??

But he didn't actually say anything. Other than moving power from Westminster, it was just pretty words. Was that it? There has to be more than good oration.

Monday will be the day, after which he will “officially” be PM.

He’ll assemble his parliament, then we will have Summer recess to “mull things over”. Nothing real can start happening until at least September.

As I understand things, please correct me if I’m wrong.

Agreed MaizieD.

He’s already talking about ‘Burnhamism’ before he’s even become the PM.

His great claims demonstrate his inflated ego and arrogance IMO.

We shall see how it all pans out!

JaneJudge Sat 18-Jul-26 12:37:05

they all go on holiday soon don't they?

I care about our country and the people who live here so I want any government of any stripe to do a good job which benefits us all. I'd also like to see parties coming together for the common good and if AB manages to that better than it's been in the last few decades, he'll make me happy. the problems we have as a society can't be fixed with short term measure so we need a degree of altruism. Impossible? Probably but I'll give anyone a chance if they are prepared to give it a go and that's what I got from his speech today.

🙏 👏👏👏👏👏

Cossy Sat 18-Jul-26 12:39:12

“Cabinet” I meant, not “Parliament”

Anyone notice R Reaves as one of the three women escorting him to the handover meeting?
