Rachel Reeves and David Lammy have been sacked by Andy Burnham as the Prime Minister begins appointing his Cabinet.

Shabana Mahmood has vowed to “finish the job” as she declared that she was delighted to stay on as Home Secretary.

She had been tipped for a move to the Treasury but Andy Burnham has kept her in post at the Home Office.

That’s a wise decision.

Angela Rayner has just gone in to No. 10.
Surely AB won’t be daft enough to make her Health Minister. 🤣Just imagine the jokes and memes if he does.

I rather like Lisa Nandy though so hope she gets a good position.

Yvette Cooper making a big display of trying to look cool on her stroll down the street like she was just walking to the shop.

Reeves said that she had been offered another senior cabinet role but had said no, FGT2. I don’t think she would lie about that when Burnham could easily refute her claim.

I agree MartavTaurus.

Louise Haigh, who was forced to quit as transport secretary after details of her historic fraud conviction emerged, has been brought back into the Cabinet as First Secretary of State.

She is widely considered to be Mr Burnham’s right-hand woman and will be responsible for enforcing his will across Whitehall.

Ms Reeves left the Cabinet to return to the back benches earlier on Monday. She is said to have rejected a more junior role in Mr Burnham’s top team.

I wonder which job Rachel Reeves was offered, but turned down?

I keep wondering as well. It was cabinet level apparently. I wonder if she might come back later after a break.

On the whole, I see a cabinet with possibly more experience than some in the previous one.

Angela Rayner, has an NVQ level 2 which is regarded as equivalent to 4 or maybe 5 GCSEs.
Not everything should be measured by academic achievement.

Milliband = Foreign Secretary. Good. Keep him away from net zero and off on his travels. Well done AB.

I’m happy too with John Healey as Chancellor. A man of integrity who stood down from Defence under KS because of a budgetary disagreement. I admired him for that.

No, she left school early and went on to study sign language and social care qualifications.

I agree with those who are confused about the relevance. As an MP she was representing her constituents, which doesn't need a subject specialism, and not many degrees equip people for working in the Cabinet.

Churchill didn't have a degree either.

There will be lots of people with degrees, myself included, who won’t be capable of being PM 😂

Exactly Jane Judge. The snobbery about Angela Raynor is disgusting and knows no limits.

Bukkie, Angela Raynor was a child carer for her mum, who had mental health problems. She is open about benefitting from Sure Start as a young mother. I found your views on her inaccurate and offensive

rafichagran - I've reported your post because it quotes the post which has been deleted by HQ and HQ missed it. I don't need to say anymore but am looking forward to AR big the Cabiet.

What degree did Angela Rayner get?

She doesn’t have a degree but then John Major didn’t have one either.
Am not sure why this is relevant.

Rafichagran, upthread, said Rayner had a gained a degree in later life.

I just want to put in a good word for David Lammy. When Keir Starmer made his resignation speech last week, David Lammy stood outside in Downing Street to support him.
(Unlike Rachel Reeves)

Ed Miliband as Foreign Secretary.

Healey. Puts the voracious, speculating media in its place for getting it entirely wrong. Safe pair of hands. Devolution friendly.

I like Healey for this job was not enamoured with Mahmoud or Miliband.

I thought they were all rather too faced, tbh. As Kemi put 400 knives in Keir’s back. ABs not taking any chances 😅

Put it

I think you were right the first time although they have been feeble attempts.

It has been suggested that both Reeves and Starmer were offered jobs by Burnham but both said no thanks, understandably in the circumstances. Lammy was a safe deputy but didn't get a chance to do anything, so who for DP?
Milliband maybe in charge of housing as well, a big job.
