I have 2 Iranian colleagues they aren't religious, the religion is colonising Iran as it did the whole of the middle east and into Asia many years ago, they have no human rights, people get beaten for drinking alcohol.

It was tragic, I think we can all agree on that.A mistake most definitely.That wouldn’t have happened if a primary school hadn’t been attached to an IRG military base, only separated by a wall. Not known about by US intelligence.

Do you hate the US or is it just Trump? Do you know that Iran murdered 36,000 of its own citizens in just two days last January?
That regular beatings, rape and murder are carried out there on girls, women who’s only ‘crime’ is not covering their hair?

The majority would like to see substantial change (80 to 85%) but are facing a deeply entrenched, well-armed minority who hold political and military control.

It isn’t my 50/50 but what I have consistently read and if course with a country such as Iran it must be very difficult to ever get a really clear picture.If it really is 80 to 85 percent that want substantial change from what they have in the present regime, that’s a very high figure.I suspect those who are more educated and live a more sophisticated life in the cities are keener on change than those in the countryside.The streets of Tehran packed with men and women muffled up in black clothing shouting and weeping at the recent funerals sought to give a picture that Iran is unified but they were probably bussed in for that very reason.
The minority hardliners as you say, hold the weapons and power and are so harsh with reprisals as we saw last January that it’s very difficult for dissidents to rise up and seize that
power unfortunately.

With the huge changes taking place in The Buckingham Palace, this could rapidly cease to be as I have read King Charles is in hospital and King William & Princess Anne & Queen Katherine are in charge.

This country is so in need of steady, experienced diplomats and politicians not a new, inexperienced PM who has rarely even commented on world affairs and then we have Milliband as foreign secretary!

Neither do a people coming from such a rich culture as Persia going back thousands of years want Americanisation!

Well I doubt Burnham will appoint anyone new at least for some time after all that. I actually had to look up the current person - Sir Christopher Turner - sort of Oxbridge non political very experienced type. Probably safe is good. Anyway we have our best UK representative to hand...

They do what is necessary, FGT. Its always best to maintain friendly relationships diplomatically unless circumstances call for "standing up to him".

But surely one expects nothing else? what else would you want to see?

Today's Burnham interview with Laura Kuenssberg follows that pattern - basically following the Starmer policy. A friendly initial meeting with Trump but “we will stick up for our interests”.

Thousands and thousands of people ( including children) are being maimed and killed on a daily basis.

It’s easy for us to be “experts” on the situation from the comfort of our arm chairs and the safety, so far, of this country. I believe war rarely solves anything and damages everyone involved, whether on the “right” or “wrong” side according to where we are coming from.

Children, especially bear the deepest wounds of conflict and they didn’t choose it. They suffer not only damage but the effects last throughout their lives. Many of us have grandchildren who face an unstable future because of irresponsible power hungry leaders.

I don't know how a " lay person" can have in depth and balanced knowledge about Iran.
