Could easily be.

Thanks to our politicians allowing America's military to use Britain as a launchpad for it's unhinged dictator President's hostile ambitions, notably the US Air Force, the Iranian's have now declared us a target.

And this is where all the bowing and scraping to America has got us.........

This is a trade off - do this or we will cut off intelligence I think.

Frankly I'd say get rid of the USA right now - but that would have consequences too.

Andy Burnham is saying we will protect ourselves.
🤷‍♂️

The USA shouldn't have the monopoly on intelligence in my opinion.

David49 Fri 24-Jul-26 07:20:56

We will protect ourselves, military security will have to be stepped us. We should worry more about terrorist attacks affecting civilian targets which have much less security and easy targets.

Iran also blame the U.K. for the formation of Israel and the injustice done to the Arabs at the time - Balfour etc.

Oreo Fri 24-Jul-26 08:31:04

The Iran are just foul in every conceivable way.As a country we will protect ourselves, Iran will use its usual proxies no doubt, the crazies living in the UK to try and do things.
Shows that the regime is getting desperate.

That should read ‘the Iran regime’.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 24-Jul-26 08:49:23

I hope that our new Foreign Secretary is speaking to his counterpart in USA to establish if our bases were use for offensive purposes as opposed to the agreed use of defensive.

Once that is established then the next move should be to firm up our defence and border controls along with our internal agencies watching for known and suspected threats from within.

AGAA4 Fri 24-Jul-26 08:56:55

I think this is in retaliation as the UK have proscribed the IRGC as a terrorist group.
Iran will have been angered and made threats.

Oreo Fri 24-Jul-26 08:57:03

It’s defensive as Iran is attacking ships from all over in the Straits of Hormuz, the US is discouraging this by bombing military infrastructure there.

They richly deserve all they get.

Maremia Fri 24-Jul-26 09:00:21

Trump should never have listened to the idiots who took him into this illegal war.

Really? What on earth is wrong with you?

AGAA4 Fri 24-Jul-26 09:09:46

We need to remember who started this war and that ordinary Iranians are suffering. They don't all agree with the harsh regime.

Iran is a rogue dangerous country feeding its proxies and propaganda everywhere. The regime has everyone in a tight grip, it’s supporters and dissidents alike and poses a very real threat to the whole region.

It’s around 50-50 I think.

Oreo Fri 24-Jul-26 10:30:21

Iran is now making enemies all over the place and has over reached itself.

Maremia Fri 24-Jul-26 11:22:30

Those little school girls did not deserve that bombing.
The BBC has a programme about it in the News menu.

Maremia Fri 24-Jul-26 11:23:14

Might be too sad to watch, as some of the families are said to be shown.

greyfur Fri 24-Jul-26 11:53:41

I won't be watching. I can hardly keep my head above water with all the hateful things going on in the world.

So no, they didn't "richly deserve " this.

Indeed?

Have we really forgotten, near the start, the bombing of the girls school on the 28th February where 120 children and teachers died.

what has they done to deserve that

I'm glad the BBC revisited the event just yesterday

Oh dear an accident? The promised enquiry by Trump has not taken place.

It is a good idea however I feel to say, "the current regime" as for sure although they get continuing support from some of their citizens (guess why?) its a good idea not to lump a whole population in with its leaders. Just as for Israel we'd say, "the current regime".

David49 Fri 24-Jul-26 18:01:02

Iran cant win this, because the US alone has far more resources all the US needs to do is to reply with the same low tech weapons that Iran uses. Stop using high tech weapons costing $millions blockade Hormuz Iran cant win, it's hard on the gulf states but this terrorist state has got to be stopped

Iran also blame the U.K. for the formation of Israel and the injustice done to the Arabs at the time - Balfour etc.

Balfour was over 100 years ago so that's not a valid reason - but we were quite involved with the Shah's corrupt regime too, & helping USA to get him in power in the first place.

Wyllow3 Fri 24-Jul-26 19:33:55

Yes: in 1953 the CIA and UK intelligence services mounted an operation to give Mohammad Reza Pahlavi a coup d'stat to act in their interests. That was overthrown in 1979 - and Iran have been building up a stash of weapons since then against clearly hostile countries to them.

Well, what a surprise - typical, the West tries to "fix" and other country and in the end ......makes it worse than it might have been.

They are not a "Terrorist State". They are a very complex and broad society, a well developed middle class and intelligentsia. Power in terms of state institutions is held from the top and enforced by the Revolutionary Guard, but there are millions of "non terrorists" in this actually very sophisticated society with many highly educated people from this Persian culture..

(Yes I do know Iranians in the UK who have family in Tehran and know what is going on and what has going on)

Its suits the US and those who support this line of thinking in order to accept so called "collateral damage"

but I'm not buying it.

Oreo Fri 24-Jul-26 19:44:02

The regime in Iran is horrible, and so are the Iranians who prop them up and keep them in power, religious fanatics.
Look at the thousands of often younger people who were murdered by them just in two days in January for having different views to the regime.36,000 wasn’t it?
Complex and broad society and sophisticated as long as you don’t step out of line.
The regime is one big terrorist state.
